The bravery of Gisele Pelicot.

I have struggled to read this dreadful story.
I really do not know how Gisele Pelicot has got through each day in court.

Her bravery and that of her children is quite incredible.
Her waiving her anonymity was her way of reversing the shame.

We have to come to terms with the fact that supposedly normal upstanding people can be such animals.

I recently went to the ladies loos in a big supermarket, there was a man in there urinating with the door half open.

I challenged him as did another lady, my husband said, I’m sure it was innocent, I was furious with him, you know when there are no urinals you have walked into the wrong one!

This man clearly got his kicks from invading a female space and to a degree exposing himself.
This may seem petty, but these men often do go on to commit further sexual crimes.

Gisele Pelicot thought for months her husbands only crime was “upskirting” in a supermarket.
Her shock at hearing the truth she said was like being hit by a tsunami.

I pray she recovers from her ordeal and has a happier life ahead of her.

I think the maximum is 20 years, but that's not enough.

What kInd of sentence will he get, does anyone think?
What should he get?

The verdicts and sentencing are being held at the moment. Her odious husband has been found guilty on several charges, not all concerning Giselle.

Shocked by a few of these posts that suggest she ought to have known what was happening or even thar she had an inkling.

What a brave, brave lady ! She should get an award .
How did this man get so many sleeping pills ? Probably bought if off the internet.

Galaxy Wed 23-Oct-24 22:14:07

I think its reassuring to think he was the only evil one. I dont think it is true however.

valdavi Wed 23-Oct-24 22:09:42

It isn't a defence. But they were probably spun a tale by her husband that allowed them to think Giselle had agreed to the scenario. They shouldn't have believed him but it allowed them to do what they wanted. They were idiots , her husband is the evil one.
She is inspirational. She didnt have to do this to get justice for herself, she's doing it for all of us.

What kind of defence is "It shouldn't count as rape because I thought she was pretending to be be asleep". These men had responded to an offer to come round and have sex in groups with another man's wife who was totally unresponsive and showed every sign of being unconscious.

I agree Missinterpreted her bravery astounds me.

Ilovecheese

This pig of a man was not in court today because he has tummy ache.

He should be dragged into court by the police. Pathetic, odious excuse for a man.

Gisele is now giving evidence on the witness stand. I am honestly in awe at this woman's bravery. She says she's not brave, but I beg to differ. I hope that, as she says, her stance does help others - there should be no shame or stigma attached to the victims of sexual assault or rape.

I'm not surprised that her children thought she had dementia if her husband had been dosing her food with a double dose of narcotics for 9 years..

A lot of abusers will make the kids think there is something wrong with their Mum, to hide what they have done. It's cruel on all levels. They will basically lie to everyone.

Letting people think she had affairs when he cause all the abuse and all the physical/mental and sexual health problems, is called Psychological Projection and it's pure evil.

The mental torture Gisele has gone through is so horrific that I don't think most people could have guessed the terrible truth. Dr's should know what signs to notice in case of abuse, though.

The point I was making is that the drugs would have left her mentally confused during the day..

Yes they would have. I think that's why she was lead to believe she had dementia ?

The Gisele Pelicot affair is certainly shocking.

Don't be too hard on the man taking a pee in the 'wrong' toilet though. It really doesn't define him as a potential sex offender!

Apparently he'd managed to get 450 sleeping pills on one year. Not sure how he managed that.

Aveline Fri 06-Sept-24 18:21:17

Tertiary Syphilis has psychiatric symptoms. Poor woman. I sincerely hope she doesn't have this.

BlueBelle Fri 06-Sept-24 18:14:19

So true we don’t know what was said or went on and it’s a horrible extreme unexplainable situation and you’re right the doctor could have been in on it or just not a very on the ball doctor or a friend of the husbands anything we just don’t know!
The thing about abusers they often have very silver tongues and people believe every word and they believe it themselves

00opsidia Fri 06-Sept-24 18:07:44

The more I read, the more horrified I am. Apparently she thought she had cervical cancer as her cervix hurt sad

Esmay Fri 06-Sept-24 18:07:22

Sorry this sent whilst I was previewing it , but you get my gist -I hope .

Esmay Fri 06-Sept-24 18:04:34

This story shocked me to the core .
I am full admiration for this brave lady .
I'm not only truly appalled by her husband's complete lack of respect for ,but also I can't understand the attitude of the participating men .

00opsidia Fri 06-Sept-24 17:16:37

BlueBelle

*Again, if you read the whole thread, it explains how her husband always accompanied her to the doctor and explained away her symptoms, including putting it down to dementia*

Sorry Missinterpreted the symptoms associated with dementia have no connection with STD s do they? I ve never known anyone with dementia to have symptoms connected with a sexually transmitted disease The husband could perhaps fool a doctor with his wife’s lack of memory or feeling woozy each morning etc but surely the doctor would not connect four different STD s with dementia
Didn’t she and the doctors have any red flags as to where these STDs were coming from ?
It just seems a horrifically weird case

This evil abuser basically just overshadowed her every move to try and solve her health issues and stood in the way of a diagnosis or support.

What if the Dr was one of the men who was involved? So much gas lighting! The poor lady must have felt she was going mad and maybe she really thought she had dementia, so frightening and wrong. The sexual abuse is bad enough but the mental trauma is just as bad.

MissInterpreted Fri 06-Sept-24 17:15:43

I don't know, BlueBelle - none of us were present to know what exactly was said at those doctor's appointments. He was obviously a very manipulative and cunning person, so perhaps he came up with some kind of story to mask what was actually happening. He tried to claim that she'd had affairs, for example. However, that doesn't take away from the horror of what actually happened to her.
