Heartbreaking, yet inspiring at the same time.
The little daughter clinging to her mum fir dear life.

Really Cardriver no one who received private health care died ?

Three children playing made you think of monthly periods
MOnica ?

Oh yes, the video did include some family seasons, but mostly it was the Princess of Wales wafting through countryside in a boho dress and lots of out of focus shots of countryside and trees and all the memes that are used by the advertisers of sanitary products.

Is this what we have come to, key members of our RF have to trail around in ridiculous videos like this making them look like extras from central casting.

They are significant people with significant roles in the central structure of this country, this video makes them look like inane celebrities from some low budget reality tv programme.

Touchy feel soppy sentimentality has never been my scene. A decade of videos like this and I could be driven into the republican camp, much agaisnt my will.

A short statement from Kensington Palace with a photograph would have been sufficient should the Royal Family have felt the need to update the public on the Princess’s health.

Rekarie Tue 10-Sept-24 16:17:49

I think it's just a sign of the times. This sort of clip is everywhere. Instagram, Tiktok. The latter being the platform used by over a billion people. And it's brilliant in my opinion.

Can't get that Harry Styles song out of my head now

A short statement at the beginning of this year telling of abdominal surgery brought the most vile accusations

Not any of our business in any case

A lot of so called news is none of our business. Being human makes us curious.

Deedaa Tue 10-Sept-24 16:29:17

Marilla Some of the theories floating around on the internet show that some of the public definitely wanted an update. Comments I have read include a lot of "Of course she hasn't had Cancer/Chemotherapy she looks too well", "Kate's just a liar anyway" and of course"No Royal would have Chemotherapy. They've both been given the actual cure"! Hopefully a fuzzy video might keep some of them quiet.

Cardriver Tue 10-Sept-24 16:31:10

Anniebach, that was not my point.
There are many people in this country who would have better health care outcomes if they also had access to excellent facilities and expertise and no financial/ job/ family care pressures to interfere with recovery.
People with money, position and power are always going to have the edge, and the Princess definitely has all of those!

I agree with Monica that the video is excessively sentimental, but I enjoyed it anyway. I love to see the children.

Her voice is very little-girly, not really grown up, and I think that contributes to the sentimental effect.

Did you think of tampons and sanitary pads ? I cannot see a connection

Deedaa Tue 10-Sept-24 16:42:52

For the people talking about wealth making a difference I will quote Jimmy Tarbuck who once said "When my mum was diagnosed with cancer it was the first time I hadn't been able to put my hand in my pocket and say "Right, I'm Jimmy Tarbuck, how much is this going to cost?"

Our local hospital kept my very unwealthy husband alive for 9 years, moving on to new drugs when they became available, angling for ones that would suit him better if necessary, and treating him like their own family when he became terminal. With some of the team I would even call it love. It takes more than money to get that.

Cardriver Tue 10-Sept-24 16:53:17

Not everyone can afford what Jimmy Tarbuck could!
I have 3 close family members working in the NHS. I know the care, dedication and effort that they all put into their work.
However they, and their colleagues would tell you that more money and an equal playing field would make an enormous difference to the health of British people.

I am glad that Catherine is doing well but this video was a bit like a commercial. I didn't think of tampons, I hasten to add but maybe something to do with promoting health care. I am surprised that the Wales's are doing down this path but Catherine is perhaps developing her photographic skills to include videos. Still, it is good news that her treatment is complete.

Wonderful news, beautiful video and sentiment, if a tad long.

A chap from one of the dailies think she should have shown herself receiving treatment.

I know what I'd like to tell him 🤬

How would William manage without her? She is so supportive and loving. I think with all his responsibilities he would be a broken man. Let’s pray she can keep in remission.

MammaLjW Tue 10-Sept-24 17:20:37

Thank you for your comment.

I know they are “not like us” but they are a loving couple with children that are so young and vulnerable.

That comment, of course, brings Prince Harry to mind and I’m sure we all grieve for that 12 year old boy - as he was then

MammaLjW Tue 10-Sept-24 17:24:08

I really am sorry - I am doing something wrong! I am trying to add comment to specific posts (where you see the post repeated and your additional comment underneath). Please could some tell this dopey old woman how to do that as I seem to be posting stand alone comments that make no sense!! Sorry all !

I haven't seen the video but will suss it out. Having just gone through 11 months of cancer treatment myself (and still awaiting the scans to determine the results) I can honestly say that, apart from the initial delay in seeing an NHS consultant (whose team pulled out all the stops by working extra hours to reduce the backlog) I have had nothing but first-class treatment from the Christie NHS in Manchester and all those associated with it. Maybe I am lucky in being close to such an eminent cancer institute, but every member of staff from the cleaner upwards has been a star. Not just the medical care itself but the kindness and understanding, the timing of appointments to suit personal preferences, etc etc. I could not have had better treatment for any amount of money.

We don't know what Kate has been doing this year behind the scenes, but I do know for certain that she will not have been able to commit to public duties due to the total uncertainty as to how the therapy would affect her physically, never mind emotionally. I had days when I was in too much pain to do anything but feel sorry for myself, unable to eat or drink, throwing up and battling debilitating side-effects.

Of course many cancer sufferers have fewer options than those who are wealthy - family responsibilities for example - but for me trying to keep going with my usual activities was mentally essential as I felt I could easily sink into depression.

I don't care how wealthy or otherwise privileged Catherine is, a cancer diagnosis and treatment at her young age is devastating and having wealth does not diminish that.

I wish her all the very best.

Grantanow Tue 10-Sept-24 17:50:01

I hope all cancer sufferers receive the same quality of treatment as Catherine, the same quality and frequency of diligent medical follow up and no waiting times longer than HRH's.

I am waiting for the video of Keir Stramer skipping through the grass, a la Basil Fotherington-Tomas, with curly blond locks saying "Hullo clouds, hullo sky". and loving the scents and sounds of nature, Although I am with his fellow pupil, Nigel Molesworth, at St Custards and feel, at times like this 'tho the less i smell and hear them the better.'

🤔

Well I'm sure there is not one of us, republican or monarchist or someone who sits on the fence, who would not wish a young mother of three children the very best for her treatment and hope for a full recovery.

Not all recover, despite the very best treatment the NHS or any private services can offer.

This film offers hope to those who might be going through the same gruelling experience.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 10-Sept-24 18:08:25

Not my cup of tea to be frank but I’m pleased she is doing well and hopefully will continue to do so.
