In the media? must be true ?

paddyann54 Tue 08-Oct-24 22:39:35

It astounds me that so many people think this entitled over privileged family are worth even a fraction of the massive amount they cost. The PR machine works very hard on their behalf to keep them in the news as if they are vital to the way of life of the ordinary men an women on the street. Its all totally ridiculous..it’s the 21st century …royalty and titles belong in the Middle Ages and it’s where they should have Been left.HOW many billions have they cost that could have been much more usefully ,especially now! I see in the media the King will be using some of his £45 MILLION rise to buy not one but two helicopters ! That while people are struggling to heat or eat is just obscene. Not exactly environmentally friendly either!

Grany, what would you class as 'work'? Even if they aren't labouring, the time of the Royal's is taken up. The "engagements" are a small proportion of what the senior Royals do.

Delighted that the PoW is making a good recovery. I think we are very lucky to be able to look forward to her and her DH as our next monarch.

However, this still doesn't stop me thinking that this mawkish video which makes the heir to the throne and his family look like z list celebrities does not do them or the monarchy any favours. Its soft out of focus camera work and filming of a family vaguely wandering round the countryside in a way that would get slammed, even as A level media studies course work,

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children and the reason this video was made are too significant and serious to be treated in this way.

I'll just say, yes z list celebrities is what they are, if someone shows you what they are believe what you see. smile

Just a few engagements William did last month. That is not work, none work.

Born into wealth power and privilege.

£510 million (which was covered in many newspapers) is what they cost a year, funded by the treasury.

The crown estate does not fund the monarchy, it is a state asset.

Head of state cannot hold government to account. The royal perogative and the privy Council give government too much power.. not democracy.

It's OK if you want the monarchy or a republic your choice.

Republic are in Australia to welcome.king queen with Australia's republican movement there.

There are lots of republican activists throughout UK

Glad Catherine is well.
Wish our health service was better funded.

Yes, I agree

nadateturbe Mon 07-Oct-24 23:10:56

Of course there is expertise but accessing it in the NHS is very often too slow. If you have money you can access it quicker.
Of course it's great that Catherine is recovering. No one would say otherwise.

Sorry, but my first reaction on seeing it was ‘pass the bucket’. It was so obviously not a home movie but a professional piece.

What a nasty comment.

I expect Catherine has felt very sick for real during her treatment for cancer. It can be gruelling.

I do know that but there is excellent expertise there

nadateturbe Mon 07-Oct-24 22:21:49

Anniebach Cardriver talked about lack of access in her post. And it's true. Some people are enduring pain and suffering for too long because of lack of access.

The NHS doesn’t have anyone, anyone, with excellent expertise?

Of course there are lots of excellent experts within the NHS. Sadly, there are long waiting lists, overworked staff and problems with communication too. The people the rich and royal use would go out of business very quickly if they had such waiting lists and the same problems with communication.

I am very grateful for the NHS for their help with getting my boy cancer free (fingers crossed he remains so) but it doesn't change my view that there are varying degrees of competence within it.

Cardriver

Anniebach, that was not my point.
There are many people in this country who would have better health care outcomes if they also had access to excellent facilities and expertise and no financial/ job/ family care pressures to interfere with recovery.
People with money, position and power are always going to have the edge, and the Princess definitely has all of those!

I'm glad Catherine is OK. I would never want anyone to be ill.
But there is no denying that what Cardriver says is true.

I think the soft focus camera work was a triumph in creativity. Very often when photographing nature, soft focus is used to represent the ethereal quality of nature. I think the filming needed to be delicate abd whispy, without crisp, clear images, because life itself is fragile and easily shattered. Especially when cancer is lurking in the background.

Anniebach Thu 12-Sept-24 20:38:03

The Daily Mail isn’t keen either , they do address the Princess of Wales as Kate Middleton still

M0nica Thu 12-Sept-24 20:34:03

Of course it is, but, personally, I think it was a bad decision.

Anniebach Thu 12-Sept-24 19:57:09

The Prince and Princess of Wales decision.

Yes, Catherine spoke of her emotions and of her family, she was sharing with us. Thank you HelterSkelter

What we must all remember that every cancer is different, every cancer treatment is different, side effects are different and on going treatment after chemo is different for each patient. How people are when chemo finishes is different and when he type of chemo and when it starts is different.
I thought her video was well thought through and answers all the questions the public may have. How is she, how are they all, when is she coming back to work. We don't need to know the actual cancer nor what chemo or ongoing treatment she will have. There were no leaks about the film which was amazing. And the press have nothing to speculate about. Just their normally unfounded gossip.

Allira Wed 11-Sept-24 21:12:03

The outlook has changed.
