Having read the first 2 pages of this thread, I wonder why I am on GN. We are all entitled to our opinions of course, we may all have different political expectations, but honestly, some of the posts are silly I honestly think Starmer is trying to kill pensioners.....
I am taking a break from GN.
I think what they subconsciously mean is that they are "sick of knowing that it is going to be "difficult " & "painful" to sort out the tangles that the country is in." Attacking the messenger is a well-known reaction to bad news, right back to antiquity. That is why those in charge so often fob off the populace with false optimism and half-truths. If they tell the truth about how near to disaster we are and how difficult it will be to pull ourselves out of it, they would be sacked and a new bunch voted in.
"I hope that any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the political reconstruction, will make allowance, all allowance, for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act. I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this government: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”
Winston Churchill, May 13, 1940
