Not for you Sir Keir or Rachel Thieves!

But I expect you know exactly what the words "I am a 5 star liar" mean......

nanna8 Sat 14-Sept-24 05:04:45

They’re all the same these pollies . Blame the outgoing government for absolutely everything that goes wrong for the next few years. When they take office the buck stops there but they never seem to accept it - always someone else’s fault.

It's easy when you're the opposition.
Of course, it's going to be arduous when you govern.
I wish they'd just suck it up, and shut up!

karmalady Sat 14-Sept-24 06:18:41

They sat there while in opposition, they could have prepared but did not appear to do much, except disagree. A lazy shower with no character

David49 Sat 14-Sept-24 07:17:54

It is “difficult” making voters understand benefit have to be paid for, it is going to be “painful” for us to loose the payouts we have become used to.

If Starmer fails to stop the benefits being paid to those that don’t need he will fail to revive the economy. The Tory newspapers have had a assasination campaign against his new policies, gullible voters are influenced, it doesn’t have to be accurate, if you say it often enough it will be believed.

Tho they have to be allowed time to change things I agree that they haven’t covered themselves with glory so far.
I disagree that taking away benefits will revive the economy!
Politicians always blame the other lot for everything of course but there’s only so many times they can go on saying it and I’d say that time is here already, so no more mention of black holes if you please Sir Keir.

ronib Sat 14-Sept-24 09:22:56

It’s worrying when a breakdown of £22 billion black holes won’t be given- do these black holes exist or are they part of a relentless propaganda machine?
We have to wait for the end of October for the budget so why the false narrative now? A government with its L plates on?

WFA is a small first step and it was announced early to give warning I don’t think they could have done much else.

You loose £ 200 but pension is increasing by £900, if you really are in difficulties claim pension credit. Others, look out for your relatives and neighbours.

biglouis Sat 14-Sept-24 09:34:53

The opposition party has full knowledge of the state of books so should/will have been aware of any potential "black hole" prior to the election. The fact that they nevertheless announced that all their proposals were fully funded shows their level of dishonesty and dissimulation. Show me an honest politico and I will show you a pig with wings.

This lot are beginning to make Truss look good.

Starmer does seem to have a limited vocabulary, and the belief that if something is repeated enough times it becomes true.

A very good description.

Constantly saying "22 billion Black Hole" without giving specific detail is too dodgy for words. And sly......

I agree , he believes if he says it enough it will stick in the memory.
No, I think what will stick is the removal of WFA.

Really? From what I've seen and heard, the average new pension is set to increase by £400 from next April; did I get that wrong? I hope so! As for claiming Pension Credit; many thousands of people are just slightly above the threshold of eligibility to claim that. I personally have only the new state pension to live on and that puts me £9 per week above the threshold to claim. I'm not alone in that.

I put a link yesterday, many people have been refused pension credit, so not that simple. Good to know well get an increase next year, as the basic rate won't be increased, many of us will pay a lot more tax,so no better off really.

I’m sick and tired of the whinging rather than of Starmer, because he is right. It is going to be difficult and painful.

Has anyone seen this video on You Tube. It is great. The Anti Starmer comedy song. It has gone viral and says it all.

But there is plenty of money to waste on Ukraine, foreign aid to such countries as India and Pakistan, the asylum system and foreigners galore. Charity begins at home.

No, it's not for most pensioners, David49, and nowhere near for some.

I suppose if the Government says something enough times, they think they'll convince everyone.

They're all the same when they take Office.

Or people believe it even if it's not!!

Jaberwok Sat 14-Sept-24 10:26:14

I think it's going to take more than WFA , bus passes and TV licences to revive the economy! Hopefully free prescription aren't next! As for the increase in the OAP, the amount quoted for that only benefits those on new pensions. Those on the old system will benefit far less. While I accept that wealthy pensioners do not need, and should not be entitled to this payment or other benefits, it would seem that those of us, particularly the over 80's who are not wealthy, are increasingly being viewed a burden on the state. Too many of us, obviously not contributing to anything worthwhile any more, clogging up the NHS, taking up accommodation that could be better used elsewhere. Unfortunately, we can't die to order, although if we could I'm sure we would in order to be helpful, being so draconian to one particular section of society, the one least able to defend themselves does seem a little cruel.

I'll state that I am disappointed so far.
And I voted for them.

Sorry, folks.

Not very good for a Shadow Chancellor to be so ignorant of the so called "black hole". Now she won't even release the details under the FofI request.
Yes it'll be hard for many pensioners this year, but the already well paid train drivers will not freeze will they. Include the MPs in that too.

PuddyCat Sat 14-Sept-24 11:18:22

OAPs have had to forfeit their WFA. In the meantime, MPs can claim their utility bills, including gas, electricity, other fuel and water bills, on expenses at a single property, either in London or their constituency. Their is no upper limit to what they can claim. Hypocrites.
