Drownings in Channel this year

8 people drowned last night making 45 people now drowned this year.

No signs of the boats stopping and no people smuggling gangs smashed as promised.

Not going well for Keir is it? He still hasn’t appointed a Border Security Chief either.

Thank you Cossy ❤️

Cossy, sorry but saying unbelievably naive is a nasty reply. At no point have I ever said I do not care about people drowning. You are misunderstanding my point, which is that we can all post what we wish and try to have a discussion without nastiness back.

I agree and sometimes it’s really easy on here to misconstrue points, because we all read things slightly differently. Much less so in face to face conversations.

Lisaangel10, please take no notice of petra’s post, your post was not unbelievably naive. You are allowed to post what you want to, and there is no need for nasty replies.

It wasn’t a nasty reply, it was honest and truthful!

Personally I think the original OP is pretty “nasty”

People are dying! Human lives are worth more than this, perhaps you should think further before you post!

You don’t need to support Starmer or care about the migrants, or even believe they are genuine asylum seekers, but for pity’s sake these are men, women and children seeking a better life and don’t deserve to die in this manner!

RIP

Which Italy has struck, not with - sorry.

Casdon Mon 16-Sept-24 07:49:07

The Border Chief has been appointed, and he and the PM are in Italy today discussing an Albanian processing deal with Italy has struck. Things are happening.

Can we at least make a half arsed attempt at mourning the loss of life at sea before getting into having a go at Starmer.
Political point scoring by mentioning people who have drowned as if they are just statistics is not a good look.

Well said!

I’m using the current mantra
Give him a chance. He’s only been in charge for __ weeks. The previous government was in for 14 years.

As the weather gets colder, the wind gets stronger and the sea gets rougher, the problem might solve itself.

He might have a plan in place by next spring.

I’m with you!

Though I’m slightly disappointed with the Labour Party, it’s still very early days and I think it’s only fair to give them a fair chance, I’m waiting for 12 months l to see positive results, after all I managed to wait a very long 14 years!

Sarnia
There is far more being done than can be made public ( obviously)
18 ribs were disabled over the period of last Friday/Saturday.

Allsorts

Why don't the police stick a knife in the boats, rendering them unable to set off or perhaps thats too simple. Why doesn't everyone here carry an id card? If they don't want to carry one, no job, schooling or housing as they do not exist. We could help them with their air fare to their country of choice. It could be sorted very quickly.

Why aren't you in the Cabinet Allsorts? Your post makes perfect sense to me but all our Governments are the same, plenty of talk but action, if there is any, is delivered at a snail's pace.

Why bring out insults in the form of comparing a poster with another poster? It doesn’t do anything for the discussion.

I don’t take an optimistic view that Starmer can do anything much about stopping the boats and it’s my view that Rwanda should have been at least tried before ditching it.

Is it me, or does this thread have a hint of Primrosely deja vu?

Your not wrong 😉

You're being as bad as the person who first posted.
Starmer isn't doing well by the way

Being the sensitive soul that I am, that really hurt 😥

Was it Oscar Wilde who said “I may not agree with what you say but I defend to the death your right to say it”

Casdon Sun 15-Sept-24 17:11:14

I meant the OP posting style reminded me of somebody else who has regularly posted in a very similar vein westendgirl.

I agree with what you say, nobody could resolve this issue in a few weeks.

westendgirl Sun 15-Sept-24 16:49:43

Echoes of the past ?, Casdon.

How on earth can Starmer unfix a mess which took 14 years to make in a few weeks.?

Lisaangel10 I quite agree with you, its a shame that some on here are quite so unpleasant. You are entitled to post both opinions and facts.

petra Sun 15-Sept-24 16:06:04

I’m defending a person who has been in power less than 3 months and is expected to fix a worldwide problem.
I suppose I’m lucky that I have an open mind and don’t let personal feelings towards politicians cloud my thinking.

If your post wasn’t so unbelievably naive it would be laughable.
Perhaps that was what you were aiming for 🤷‍♀️

Petra is very rude and patronising to Lisangel10. Is this allowed? It would make me feel very uncomfortable as Lisangell0 states in my post about dealing with rude people.

Tuaim

It makes you wonder what must have happened in peoples lives to be so rude and nasty to a complete stranger who they know nothing about whilst defending a man who they probably don’t know much about either. Politics hey?

Casdon Sun 15-Sept-24 15:48:30

No, people aren’t being over sensitive, and you just said it again yourself then Lisaangel10, it’s an opinion, not a fact!

Lisaangel10 Sun 15-Sept-24 15:45:51

Wyllow3

The number of people drowned is a fact.

The sentence about Starmer is an opinion. Now, if you agree with the O/P then you'll not find a problem with the words, or the tone of that opinion.

But if you don't agree then you'll contest the opinion and the tone of it, and I found the tone as pretty strong mocking of someone I respect.

But we do have a choice how we express our POV, and there is always the report button if you feel you have been personally attacked.

Everything I posted is factual.

“not going well for Keir is it?” Is my opinion, yes. I suspect from following the news there are thousands who would agree with me. Call it sneery if you like or it could just be you and petra being over sensitive.
