And it it any wonder - chopping Winter Fuel Payments, the 25% discount on Council Tax looks like that's going out the window (and bus passes aren't safe) but at least the PM and his Missus will be well dressed while all this is being inflicted on the goodly voters.......76,000 quids worth of freebies.

To those that already have plenty even more will be given.

The rest of us will have to queue up at the Parish Workhouse.

I tried very hard to put my prejudices aside when KS came to power. So be it I said. I genuinely gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the country will turn the corner now etc. It’s important to have a working economy and blah…..

Now I won’t even turn on my tv to watch the news. I did pick up on Elon Musk refusing to engage with the UK. So much for our global influence and trade. There’s something a bit weird do we think?

Doodledog Thu 26-Sept-24 21:42:29

I, too, would be interested to know who is defending everything KS does, and how they are being indoctrinated.

What I said was as follows:
I have concerns of my own. One of them is that the right wing press is persuading people that Bad Things will happen and people are believing it without finding out the facts or waiting to see. Another is that bots are posting disinformation all over the Internet.

I didn't mention indoctrination, but explained what my concerns are and I stand by them. On GN alone there are scare stories about bus passes, CT discounts and free prescriptions being cancelled, and people join in enthusiastically to say how awful the LP is for doing these things, when there is zero evidence that they will. People are repeating 'witticisms' such as 'Two Tier Keir' and 'Victoria Sponge' which are directly lifted from others and require no critical thinking whatsoever.

Can anyone point to a case of someone doing that in defence of the government, and/or someone who has defended KS in everything he does? Just one will do. People have spoken in defence of policies, and given reasons for doing so. I have seen nobody say 'He is wonderful and the best PM ever' - that sort of unconsidered comment comes 100% from people who dislike him. Nobody has called him 'Wise Seer Keir' or similar - again, the names and slogans come from the detractors.

You mentioned people being indoctrinated..

People are being indoctrinated (not saying all but a significant number)!

I’m just giving my view of where the indoctrination is coming from and what it’s aiming to do.
And I’m not saying all, either, but a significant number.

Casdon Thu 26-Sept-24 18:44:43

I have absolutely no idea what you meant, or knew that I didn’t when you said it Mollygo, that’s why I asked you what you meant!

Mollygo Thu 26-Sept-24 18:39:15

Is that what’s been happening? Is that what’s made all those posters on here so desperate to support anything Starmer says or does?
Thanks for keeping me up to date about why it’s happening.

Casdon Thu 26-Sept-24 18:36:58

Indoctrinated to defend KS whatever he does maybe?

How would that be achieved? The indoctrination of elderly women by only reading pro Labour media would be quite a challenge. Perhaps there are pro Labour cyber bots out there, or a subliminal message in BBC news bulletins? Do tell!

Trueloveways Thu 26-Sept-24 18:22:17

He’s gone up in my estimation.

Doodledog Thu 26-Sept-24 18:12:21

What makes you say that, easybee? If you can point to one thing I've copied from elsewhere, one trope, one meme, one repeated slogan, I'll certainly have a think, but I'd be surprised if you can.

My opinion may differ from those opposed to a Labour government, but I use my own words and back up what I say with my own thoughts. I don't think I am indoctrinated, but I will listen to any evidence you can find to suggest otherwise.

LizzieDrip Thu 26-Sept-24 18:07:25

Eazybee indoctrinated by whom?

eazybee Thu 26-Sept-24 17:13:27

Both of you.

Doodledog Thu 26-Sept-24 16:37:27

eazybee

Or, perhaps it is you who are being indoctrinated.

Who?

Oh dear, never mind, he deserves it

Doodledog these are my concerns too … and IMO they are the most worrying issues we face today. People are being indoctrinated (not saying all but a significant number)!

Casdon Just like the 6,500 teachers to help cope with the influx from the fee paying schools due to vat come January.

This is pure media fuelled nonsense.

State schools' admissions have been falling for some time as the birth rate has dropped. There will be plenty of spaces available in the unlikely event of an 'influx' from private schools.

Doodledog , you sound rather critical of some other Gransnetters and not very understanding of their very real concerns.
Surely you can see that the ruthless ( in my opinion) RR is in such a short time showing herself to be keen to make a name for herself at whatever cost whilst she seems smug and almost enjoying inflicting misery.
RR of course remains cosseted from the impact of her actions as are others in the cabinet.
I feel saddened that the Labour Party are proving so soon to be the nasty , uncaring and dishonest party.
Hopefully before too long Keir Starmer will be toppled, but who to replace him ? It’s all very depressing.

What makes you think that? I'm not sure who I have criticised, and I do understand people's concerns. I have concerns of my own. One of them is that the right wing press is persuading people that Bad Things will happen and people are believing it without finding out the facts or waiting to see. Another is that bots are posting disinformation all over the Internet.

If you link to where I've said whatever it is, I'll answer, but I've hardly contributed to this thread, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

“ He was voted in by a massive majority …. be careful what you wish for”

He has got a massive parliamentary majority yes, but SK was elected by 32% odd per cent of the electorate on a low turnout, a very low percentage of voters.

SK got in on fewer votes than were cast by Labour voters for Jeremy Corbyn.

The election result was as it is because many Conservatives voters either stayed at home or voted for Reform and where polling showed this was likely to happen the left capitalised and threw resources into nabbing the seat by, often, small minorities.

Conservative voters were extremely displeased at the way the Conservative government had abandoned its Conservative principles.

Mollygo Mon 23-Sept-24 18:58:51

Well the good news is that Labour MP Connor Rand is a typical MP (of any party).
Asked a simple question on tonight’s news, he answered the question he wished he’d been asked.

It seems it doesn't seem to matter what or the value of any gift sorry, donation, accepted as long as it's declared if over £300. I woukd have been sacked if I accepted eg a box of chocolates, half a dozen homegrown tomatoes from local authority clients.

eazybee Mon 23-Sept-24 18:09:59

I blame tactical voting. Many people voted Labour because they believed they can't be worse than the Tories.
