Trump's anti-Semitism

"During an event held by the Israeli-American Council on Thursday, he brought up losing, and suggested that any such loss would partly be the fault of Jewish voters.

"Do they know what the hell is happening if I don't win this election?" he said, according to various media reports. "And the Jewish people would have to do a lot with that if that happens because at 40% [support] that means 60% of the people are voting for the enemy."

The comments were condemned by the Harris campaign and by the nonpartisan American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League.

The link doesn't seem to work?

Brass neck is what he has. www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/trump-preemptively-blames-jews-if-he-loses-in-november-accusing-them-of-voting-for-the-enemy/ar-AA1qVihC?ocid=BingNewsSerp

Right. The long and the short of it is (a) that I'm not well versed in tortuous anti-semitic tropes, and (b) Trump does himself no favours when talking politics.

Not sure Harris does either.

God save America!

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Sept-24 14:22:35

Well yes, he's flinging out accusations in any direction possible. Eating cats and dogs....he's just accused Zelensky of supporting the Democrats (breaking news), blames the Democrats for the assassination attempts, etc.

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 14:16:38

Going to check out the WP article now....

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 14:15:55

But I still don't think saying that voting for the Dems (enemies of Israel as Trump sees it) is "blaming the Jews" if Harris wins on election day.

He's blaming anyone who votes Democrat, a very small percentage of whom will be Jewish.

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 14:11:02

Whoever a majority of the Jewish community votes for, Jews – roughly 2 percent of the U.S. population – cannot and should not be blamed for the outcome of the election. Setting up anyone to say “we lost because of the Jews” is outrageous

This certainly makes sense.

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Sept-24 14:07:15

If anyone can access tis article in the Washington Post it gives a really full background

www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/17/trump-history-antisemitic-tropes/

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Sept-24 13:56:01

Baggs, I was pointing out that the remarks were seriously anti-semitic and that he is perfectly aware - or should be - of the anti semitism in the USA.

Yes, "the enemy" he alludes to are those people of Jewish origin who don't totally agree with him on Israel. (Its all in the references I gave on the first page)

But in posting, I regarded the cross party statement on his remarks by the nonpartisan American Jewish Committee as key to critiquing those remarks out as anti semitic: to repeat:

""Whoever a majority of the Jewish community votes for, Jews – roughly 2 percent of the U.S. population – cannot and should not be blamed for the outcome of the election. Setting up anyone to say “we lost because of the Jews” is outrageous and dangerous. Thousands of years of history have shown that scapegoating Jews can lead to antisemitic hate and violence."

Oreo Tue 24-Sept-24 13:52:43

It wasn’t.

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 13:50:08

Just did a "Trump and Israel" search and it does indeed appear that Trump is pro-Israel. This suggests to me that, at he sees it, the Democrats are anti-Israel and his comments make sense – again, from that point of view.

Whatever this is, I don't see it as anti-semitic.

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 13:42:21

My interpretation is that Trump thinks, rightly or wrongly, that the Democratic Party in the US is anti-Israel. If that is what he thinks then it makes sense, from his point of view, to say that a vote for the Dems is a vote for the enemy if he is pro-Israel.

Baggs Tue 24-Sept-24 13:36:13

I don't understand why what Trump said, as reported in the BBC article, is anti-semitic. When he spoke of "the enemy" who did he mean? I didn't read that as the enemy being Jews.

Also, Wyllow, could you say what other anti-semitism Trump has shown. It might help me understand.

Trump is poisonous. If he gets into power again that is the end of the world as we know it.
He and Putin are the most destructive forces on this planet.

Have no fears - Trump is going to be a Protector of Women. Last night -

"Donald Trump has claimed he will be a "protector" of women if he wins the presidency in November.

The Republican presidential nominee was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on Monday night when he said:

"I make this statement to the great women of our country... I am your protector. I want to be your protector. As president, I have to be your protector."

He also said how, under his presidency, women "will no longer be thinking about abortion."

I never make a point of listening to Trump but accasionally catch interviews and news on the TV where I hear him speak. Quite frankly I think he's on his way to dementia, the things he comes out with are so bizarre and certainly don't come from a sane person.

I'm very worried - if Trump wins, you can say goodbye to Ukraine, then half of Europe; say goodbye to Nato, and eventually to any semblance of a free world. If Trump wins I may insist my son and DIL bring my 3 grandchildren back from Poland at once. I'm not saying they will be 100% safe in the UK but I don't want my sweet darling grandson dying in a freezing foxhole on the Belarus border in 15 years time.

Oh dear Mr Musk - your high status and (presumably) high levels of testosterone are, to me, proof, with every utterance of yours, that critical thought is often evasive in such people.

"Elon Musk’s attacks on Kamala Harris become more unhinged, with help from AI"

worth a read - includes this gem
"By choosing to amplify disinformation and misogynist views, Musk, a South African billionaire who is both the owner of X and the most-followed account on the platform, is promoting radical content to the masses that might otherwise languish in the darkest corners of the internet.

By Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Musk shared the fake image and false statement depicting Harris as a communist, the post had been viewed nearly 60 million times, according to data from X.

Musk’s post suggesting women shouldn’t take part in democracy had been viewed more than 19 million times."

Musk’s post came a day after he shared another post with a screenshot suggesting that only “high status males” should be able to participate in government because women (and men with “low testosterone”) are not capable of critical thought. Musk posted it to his 196 million followers with the comment, “interesting observation

Musk is now using X as a Trump campaign vehicle - if only there was an alternative!

Another Tate misogynist with obscene views.
No doubt he has a following, these sad excuses for human beings almost always manage to appeal to the lowest possible denominator.

It’s a hard one to call, if Biden had still been President then DT would def have got in, but with Kamala Harris it’s changed things.Just have to keep fingers crossed that she wins.

Babs03 Mon 23-Sept-24 17:58:54

If he does become President it is his relationship with autocrats like Putin that worry me, he calls them strong men and has a lot of respect for such people. So Ukraine could be tricky. And if his nonsense means Ukraine falls that imperils the rest of Europe including the UK.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 17:56:24

So far votes seem to be balanced on a knife edge pretty much 50/50 but it may open up in another few weeks.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 17:55:02

😄
He’s more likely to say that Kamala Harris’ supporters are doing that.
