Trump's anti-Semitism

"During an event held by the Israeli-American Council on Thursday, he brought up losing, and suggested that any such loss would partly be the fault of Jewish voters.

"Do they know what the hell is happening if I don't win this election?" he said, according to various media reports. "And the Jewish people would have to do a lot with that if that happens because at 40% [support] that means 60% of the people are voting for the enemy."

The comments were condemned by the Harris campaign and by the nonpartisan American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League.

Its not a first.

I don't have any time for Donald Trump, but given his son-in-law - who had a very senior role when Trump was President - is Jewish and his daughter converted to Judaism I'm not absolutely sure I'd tar him with the anti-semite label.

The man has no filter and let's face it, he's said some pretty dreadful things about women, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like them.

The article quotes him as questioning the voting behaviour of the Jewish community but it's fairly standard for politicians to voice their opinions about the voting behaviour of different sections of the population but it's not necessarily prejudicial.

It makes me despise him even more. God help America if he gets voted in again.

Trump is many things but anti Semitism is not one of them. Throwing around accusations like that doesn’t help his opponents in any way. Keep to the facts- heaven knows there are enough of 5hem!

Wyllow3 Mon 23-Sept-24 11:29:20

It's not a one off, he's said similar things many times.

Cossy Mon 23-Sept-24 11:33:12

He’s just a horrible, deluded, discriminating, pathetic excuse for a man.

He’ll bring anyone, any cohort, any race, any religion, down if he thinks he should!

Wyllow3 Mon 23-Sept-24 11:38:05

He's encouraging an already existing white supremacy trope which is increasing in the USA. Anything, anything for votes.

seadragon Mon 23-Sept-24 11:53:56

I've said its before and I'll say it again: I am far far more worried by Trump voters than Mr Trump1

Babs03 Mon 23-Sept-24 11:54:24

He opens his gob and just lets anything come out, the man has verbal diarrhoea.
And having a President like this again, but older and more erratic, scares me, and should scare all of us.

Agree totally

Apologies Wyllow3: but I'm missing the point here - what has the voting behaviour of the Jewish community got to do with him encouraging a white supremacy trope?

I agree with you.

He's openly picking on and criticising Jewish people and that's going to go out in Truth Social and buy into preexisting quite vicious anti semitism.

Thats what the the nonpartisan American Jewish Committee feel and I agree.

This is what they've said:

"Whoever a majority of the Jewish community votes for, Jews – roughly 2 percent of the U.S. population – cannot and should not be blamed for the outcome of the election. Setting up anyone to say “we lost because of the Jews” is outrageous and dangerous. Thousands of years of history have shown that scapegoating Jews can lead to antisemitic hate and violence."

ferry23 Mon 23-Sept-24 16:50:38

Wyllow3 I agree and understand the bit about blaming a small proportion of the population, (whoever they may be) but I still don't understand the white supremacy reference in your post.

Sorry if I'm being thick- and I'm not sparring for an argument at all - I just can't get the connection.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 16:53:34

I don’t think he’s particularly anti-Semitic as there are Jews within his family, he’s just being DT as usual, assuming they’re all going to vote for him.

Babs03 Mon 23-Sept-24 17:52:33

Let’s hope he doesn’t say that Jewish voters are eating people’s pets.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 17:55:02

😄
He’s more likely to say that Kamala Harris’ supporters are doing that.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 17:56:24

So far votes seem to be balanced on a knife edge pretty much 50/50 but it may open up in another few weeks.

Babs03 Mon 23-Sept-24 17:58:54

If he does become President it is his relationship with autocrats like Putin that worry me, he calls them strong men and has a lot of respect for such people. So Ukraine could be tricky. And if his nonsense means Ukraine falls that imperils the rest of Europe including the UK.

Oreo Mon 23-Sept-24 18:01:14

It’s a hard one to call, if Biden had still been President then DT would def have got in, but with Kamala Harris it’s changed things.Just have to keep fingers crossed that she wins.

"Elon Musk’s attacks on Kamala Harris become more unhinged, with help from AI"

worth a read - includes this gem
"By choosing to amplify disinformation and misogynist views, Musk, a South African billionaire who is both the owner of X and the most-followed account on the platform, is promoting radical content to the masses that might otherwise languish in the darkest corners of the internet.

By Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Musk shared the fake image and false statement depicting Harris as a communist, the post had been viewed nearly 60 million times, according to data from X.

Musk’s post suggesting women shouldn’t take part in democracy had been viewed more than 19 million times."

Musk’s post came a day after he shared another post with a screenshot suggesting that only “high status males” should be able to participate in government because women (and men with “low testosterone”) are not capable of critical thought. Musk posted it to his 196 million followers with the comment, “interesting observation

Musk is now using X as a Trump campaign vehicle - if only there was an alternative!

Another Tate misogynist with obscene views.
No doubt he has a following, these sad excuses for human beings almost always manage to appeal to the lowest possible denominator.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 24-Sept-24 08:07:49

Oh dear Mr Musk - your high status and (presumably) high levels of testosterone are, to me, proof, with every utterance of yours, that critical thought is often evasive in such people.

I'm very worried - if Trump wins, you can say goodbye to Ukraine, then half of Europe; say goodbye to Nato, and eventually to any semblance of a free world. If Trump wins I may insist my son and DIL bring my 3 grandchildren back from Poland at once. I'm not saying they will be 100% safe in the UK but I don't want my sweet darling grandson dying in a freezing foxhole on the Belarus border in 15 years time.
