Knife crime: she promised ( hoped) knife crime to be halved in ten years time, that’s a long long way away.
Starmer and prisons: he found room for a couple of hundred pretty soon after the riots.
Doctors pay: agreed straight away on a huge pay rise, same for train drivers, no questions asked.
Riots: dealt with quickly, yes but also in a very, very draconion way.

I agree with Oreo.
The freebies are actually disgusting.
Some people maybe able to overlook these but I’ve been truly shocked that a man who has set himself up as whiter than white has accepted more freebies than Boris Johnson.

Why is everyone blaming Labour for the state that our prisons are in? I think they handled the riots incredibly well. I’m heartily sick of the way the right wing media are concentrating on every tiny negative thing they can about the party. I will never forget the things that the Conservative Party have subjected this country to over the past 14 years but am under no illusion as to how much work needs to be done to turn this country around. And, all the time, the Conservative Party are still fighting with each other like rats in a sack and many people think the saviours of this country are going to be Farage, Lee Anderson and Ann Widdecombe.

A distraction, a deflection!

Do I think any MPs should accept “freebies”, no, I don’t think they should.

Am I delighted with the last few months? Not really.

Am I sorry I voted Labour? Absolutely not!

Ask me again in 12 months. Currently I still feel “safer” under Labour.

Btw, I don’t remember Starmer ever setting himself up as “whiter than white”

Dare I ask who you would like to see in government?

Our country was threatened with riots and civil breakdown and was dealt with as effectively as it could have been.
Indeed, and the police were highly praised for their bravery and efforts including cancelled leave and rest days etc. When they put in for a pay rise will that be remembered or will the fact it's illegal for them to strike mean once again they can be overlooked?

I voted Labour, remain convinced it was the right vote and obviously it's too early for judgement calls, but I am disappointed with some aspects. Freebies might be legal but I'd hoped Labour would have more integrity and conscience about taking them, especially as they earn very decent salaries with generous expense allowances. The first announcement being withdrawal of the WFA was, in my opinion, a really lousy move. If that is the first waste of money/inappropriate spend/area to be targeted that came to mind then I worry about their priorities. The savings are piddling in a country's budget and could easily have waited a year to take time for a more targeted approach.
It's been reported that the whole doom and gloom pronouncements from day one have had a negative effect on retail, when we need the economy helped by more spending.

Let's hope there will be announcements in the budget that will contribute to a general feeling that we are heading in the right direction. They would certainly have to go some to be worse than we've had for too long.

In answer to Maybee70 if I’m honest I don’t know. I voted
Liberal Democrat this election because I felt they were the most honest in the television interviews . I have voted Conservative in the past but besides them doing a bad job before the election I was livid about their scheme for “voluntary” work for young people after the terrible time they had during Covid so that was the last straw for me, and I told our local MP so ( my constituency had remained Conservative and in fairness, she is a very good MP)

I guess I’d like a prime minister with some ethics and that’s not Keir Starmer )’(besides the fact he’s so “beige”)

Would you like him to behave more Ed Davey’ish then? Bungee jumping etc? And ( and I’m saying this as someone that, although I’ve always been a Labour voter has always had a fondness for the LibDems: worked a lot with them post referendum) Ed isn’t totally squeaky clean being part of the coalition tuition fees turnaround and involved in the postmaster scandal too. Imo Keir is as close to being a decent MP as you’re likely to get ( but I am biased I know). Thanks for your reply by the way ( I’m a bit touchy at the moment…)

He did brilliantly didn’t he! Our local Labour Party always worked well with the LibDems prior to the coalition. I’ve always regarded them as the Jiminy Crickets of British politics and did actually campaign for them at the 2019 election because of their stance on Brexit. ( I think the referendum resulted in me suffering from permanent touchiness !)

I never did like Keir Starmer even when he was in opposition.
All he used to do is sit on the fence and pick pick pick.
There's just something about the bloke I just don't take to.

He didn’t sit on the fence. He often, in opposition, supported the government if he felt it was in the best interest of the country. He never opposes for the sake of opposing. It’s one of the things I really like about him.

So much opinion formed by the press making much of the peripheral things rather than the actual solid work of government. The ‘sausages’ slip up seems destined to be Keir Starmer’s defining moment for some. 😕

At least the Conservatives weren't taking away people's freedoms, banning smoking, shutting pubs early. All to protect the NHS. Perhaps if Streeting looked at the overload of managers they would be able to cut costs. How about charging foreigners up front for using our NHS as they do in most other countries. The Conservatives weren't making enemies of our friends as Lammy is doing. Only on Grans net are the new government in favour. Certainly not out on the streets.
