So this is the biggest gaff any PM has ever made.

Sausages…. hostages how?

^Early release of undesirables^🤷‍♀️

Come on Diplomat, surely you can do better than that.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 15:40:41

Yes, I was reading that somewhere.

He has been giving huge donations for some years - long before Starmer.

That's what friends do, as far as I'm concerned.
Perhaps he should be friendless and that will placate people.

Am not sure about being friends tho expect it’s a cordial relationship being as he’s been a generous LP donor for years.

Ah, MissAdventure, the problem for the right wing media and their followers on GN is not really the act itself … it because it’s Keir Starmer!

In reality, someone who Keir Starmer knows let him use his apartment - big deal🤷‍♀️

Wrong!
Some of us are Labour voters and we feel alarmed at things such as withdrawing the WFA and accepting such big amounts for personal things from a wealthy donor who is also political as he’s in the HOL. It just doesn’t feel right.

Well you accused me of not knowing facts, Cossy. Glad to see you admit it.

Of course no money changed hands. Do you know how donation works?

No idea! Nobody's ever invited me to stay in their Italian villa.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:57:58

The release of prisoners is facing up to a long standing problem which has been known about but not dealt with for years.

Its particularly smart, if it is executed properly, and rehabilitates people.

That remains to be seen, but the main thing is that the issue has been faced head on, and is backed by prison authorities.

Close to Godwin's Law there, growstuff!

True though.

“Can’t wait Diplomat … bring it on🤣
Early release of undesirables, what kind of smart more is that?“

A plan initiated by the Tories, tweaked and followed through by this govt!

I've let people borrow my flat at times.
Don't see the big deal.

Lots of people have "borrowed" my spare bedroom for far too long.

It's not available to other people, because they arent in my friend circle.

So what?

We’ve lent our holiday lodge/caravan to close friends, and not charged them rent/electricity etc. We’ve had friends to stay, even for a few months in the past, you’re so right, in the great scheme of things it’s not a big deal!

Diplomat Wed 25-Sept-24 14:51:36

Move not more

Cosy and LizzyDrip, I would also like to go on about gifts of clothes, football invitations, private schooling, taking pensioners winter fuel allowance.....I'll be back with more.

That’s absolutely fine, as you’re entitled to have your opinions and beliefs and to air them.

As I’ve stated so many times before, we are all different, we all have differing political views and our own moral compasses.

Do I think the LP has made the best start, absolutely not!

I don’t agree with the way the WFA has been implemented, nor do I think the criteria for having it is high enough, do I think it should be universal? Absolutely not!

Do I think ANY MPs should have “donations” for personal items? No, I don’t!

There’s so much I don’t agree with around our politics, the flawed voting systems, second homes, “perks”, expenses, all fine, well and good when everyone in our country is flourishing, a little tawdry when we have so many people in dire social and financial situations.

Do I still feel the LP are better for this country and it’s citizens, a resounding yes!

Put it that way it sounds so trivial!

Without a paddle, for sure. 🚣‍♀️

Yes, they probably are, I guess.

The wedding one focuses mainly on Catholicism, and whether adulterers can be married in a catholic church.

Wishing Carrie good luck, and one in the eye for Cummings.

There are others, I just put that one up as an example.

I am neither for or against Sir Starmer, I hope he succeeds at the top job, because if he doesn’t we are all well and truly in the brown stuff 💩

Nope.
I genuinely couldn't find all the multiple threads criticising boris.
Not even the wedding one.

It’s worth reading this, to see that the pitch battles on Gransnet were just the same three years ago as they are now - many of the same people, although some now have different names. I don’t think anybody has forgotten what they said before, it’s just that it’s a different game in the same league now, the rules are exactly the same, as are the accusations between the factions. It’s actually funny if you think about it.

If you look at any of the political threads during his tenure of No.10 the criticism is constant and at times vitriolic, especially any relating to Brexit.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:26:49

Thanks grannyGravy but it's not overly critical from what I can see.

I didnt read it all, but a lot of it was talking about other people, other events.
Quite a few congratulations, and some "is it for tax purposes"?
Nothing like the roasting Starmer is getting.
