I don’t think it compares to Boris Johnson erroneously saying that Nazanin Zahari-Radcliffe was involved in training journalists in Iran, after which she was hauled in front of an Iranian court and told her sentence could double. That was a gaffe with consequences.

I don't think it's funny to joke around the awful hostage situation in Gaza, the families, so much suffering. Have respect.

Did he skip a meal and was salivating over sausages?
Was someone on the front row at the conference eating a sausage roll?
Or is there a much deeper Freudian meaning to this?

I don't understand how you get to sausages when you mean hostages? I could have understood it if he'd said hotdogs as that begins with h and o.

He wasn't making a joke, it was a slip of the tongue. Noone is laughing at the hostage situation.

We had some hostages for our evening meal.

He slipped up after saying "ceasefire" maybe he was thinking "campfire" mmm sausages. Fortunately didn't break into that gooly gooly ging gang song

I’m sure there will, because if you look online every PM we have ever had has made a series of gaffes, some funny, some really serious, and all out there to be viewed for ever, so why would this PM be any different?

I know nothing about the conference, I'm out of the country this month, no TV or daily newspaper, so I just picked it up completely out of context.
Not revelling at all, just puzzling! Weird sums it up.

When l read it l laughed out loud, quoted it to my husband (who has a completely different sense of humour to me and he laughed out loud too. No malice intended, just a natural reaction to the gaffe. If that's reveling, we revelled.

He's probably pacing around repeating "hostages", and checking that yes, everyone did hear his mistake, and he didn't manage to pass it off...
