So this is the biggest gaff any PM has ever made.

Sausages…. hostages how?

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 14:13:57

Nope.
I genuinely couldn't find all the multiple threads criticising boris.
Not even the wedding one.

Guests are arriving for Boris and Carrie Johnson’s wedding bash at the grand Cotswolds estate of a major Tory donor

But that was good ‘ol BoJo … so that’s ok!

Of course it’s OK! Everything the Tories did was ok and totally justified.

Everything the LP is doing is utterly evil, wrong and hypocritical!

We simply need to accept that and move on!

Also, those constantly slating the LP don’t need to be so terribly rude to those of us defending them.

There’s political allegiance and there’s sheer bad manners and rudeness.

We can debate with rudeness and personal insults.

We are all well educated older women (in the main)

FGG give the LP a chance.

Just done a quick GN search, there were multiple threads having a go at the Johnson’s wedding arrangements.

Selective memory?

The problem is , a Labour PM, the fact is he is Labour not conservative

LizzieDrip Wed 25-Sept-24 14:08:17

Ah, MissAdventure, the problem for the right wing media and their followers on GN is not really the act itself … it because it’s Keir Starmer!

In reality, someone who Keir Starmer knows let him use his apartment - big deal🤷‍♀️

So need and desire an edit key!!

So, what's the actual problem??

Well you accused me of not knowing facts, Cossy. Glad to see you admit it.

Of course no money changed hands. Do you know how donation works?

Do you?

Oh give over, LizzieDrip! Who are you to tell me what I do?

And I actually heard Keir Starmer explaining this to a Radio 4 journalist.

Believe me, the Sky headline basically came from the horse's mouth.

Go and listen to it

“He declared Lord Alli had donated several weeks' accommodation, which is recorded as being worth more than £20,000, in the register of MPs' interests.
Sir Keir told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I had promised him faithfully that I would give him an environment in which he could calmly get on, his one chance to do his GCSEs, and therefore we relocated somewhere else - a gift which we then allocated a sum of money to.

Sir Keir told the BBC Today programme: "Somebody then offered me accommodation where we could do that, and I took it up. And it was the right thing to do. It didn't cost the taxpayer a penny."
He said he felt passionately about the issue, admitting that for his daughter, who is 13, and his son, the situation was difficult.
"Sometimes what sits behind these are human explanations," he told BBC 5 Live, particularly in the "hurly burly" of an election campaign - but things had changed now Labour was in government.

He told Today's Nick Robinson that he'd accepted the donation for clothing in opposition, during a "busy election campaign".

Just stop now, Starmer was NOT PM when the “gifts” were accepted. The accommodation wasn’t “paid for” so no £20,000+ was passed across to him. It was “costed” as are all “gifts” for declaration purposes prior to him actually becoming PM.

It could not be clearer!

Someone said this isn't big news earlier. I am abroad, and today the gaffe has trickled into foreign papers too.

Here's what you need to know from this morning:

"Sir Keir Starmer has revealed he took a £20,000 donation from Labour's Lord Alli to help his son study for his GCSEs;
The gift was listed as "accommodation" when the PM registered it, and he told the BBC it was somewhere for his son to revise "without being disturbed" during the election campaign;"

Is that factual enough for you Cossy"?

He did NOT accept cash though! He accepted the loan of accommodation, which was declared, and costed at £20,000 had he rented it privately.

Not quite the same!

I wonder how much it would cost to rent Lord and Lady Bamford's home for a wedding.

LizzieDrip you’re doing your best line in defending KS but the bottom line is that he seems to have been taking huge donations from Lord Alli for just about everything.
Accommodation, specs, suits, glasses and who knows what else.
A millionaire himself it just doesn’t sit right with voters.

Hear, hear!

I still fail to see how anyone could mistake sausages for hostages.

He's not a good speaker. As has been mentioned, Farage is excellent, but as has also been mentioned he doesn't always speak for many of us.

Just seen that the unions have voted against the removal of fuel allowance for pensioners, and Starmer took a £20.000 donation to help his son get GCSEs. Not sure why anyone would need 20 grand for this.

I agree with you that Farage's rhetorical skills are almost as good as those of Goebbels.

Fact:
1)Sky News headline is deliberately misleading.

2)Here is the article:
Sir Keir Starmer accepted accommodation worth £20,000 to help his 16-year-old son study for his GCSE exams, it has emerged.
The prime minister was asked about a donation of £20,437 made by Labour peer Lord Alli from May to July of this year.
Asked about this by the BBC, Sir Keir says: "At the beginning of the election, which we didn't know when it was going to be called, my boy was in the middle of his GCSEs.
"I made him a promise that he'll be able to get to his school, do his exams without being disturbed."
But, Sir Keir says, "we had lots of journalists outside our house where we lived".
"I'm not complaining about that, that's fine, but if you're a 16-year-old trying to do your GCSEs, your one chance in life, I promised him we'd move somewhere, we'd get out of that house, and go somewhere where he could be peacefully studying.
"Someone then offered me accommodation where we could do that, I took it up, and it was the right thing to do for my boy, it didn’t cost the taxpayer a penny."
Asked if that was Lord Alli, Sir Keir says: "Yes, of course.
"But my primary concern wasn't about influencing government, it was making sure my boy could do his GCSEs without wading through loads of journalists outside the house."

It’s bad enough that Keir Starmer’s wife has been drawn into this media / social media crap … but this is about his 16 year old son.

Factual enough for you?

Are you really willing to perpetuate this with glee! What is wrong with you?

Surely enough is enough!
