Just pondering on the next headline our fabulous press will come up with next!

Anyone else have any good headlines?

I didn’t care for Cummings but the way the press camped outside his family home was bordering on full on stalking and harassment.

I fear for Larry, like others on GN he's a pensioner that has had to continue working, he'd really like to just sleep away his Autumn years, but he barely makes enough to cover the cost of his kibble these days, a cat can't live by rodents alone, they just aren't that tasty hmm . Then there's the cost of heating his thermal pad cat blanker, which he probably can't afford now his WFA has gone. All that and a Prince to deal with, well we all know how tricky they can be, particularly if he was a second in his litter kind of Prince hmm

Sorry Cossy, what are you saying isn’t true?

I don’t believe I said I didn’t believe things weren’t true.

However, much of our press, and a good percentage of GNs are making much of some awfully trivial matters, which happened prior to the LP taking power.

I don’t personally agree with personal donations nor the way the WFA was removed, but methinks that in these short three months some of us have had memory bypasses.

Maybe Larry was in need of some sausages.

I kind of know what you mean Cossy but many of us were just hoping for better, more ethical behaviour from KS.

You're sure it wasn't a Tory rat in disguise?

Me too, tbh, things can only get better (one hopes), with or without a dodgy dance!

I know it's awful when people say things you disagree with. There should be a law or something grin

It's actually frighteningly appealing to only listen to 'our' own side. I sometimes have to have a word with myself on Twitter as I feel myself being drawn to all the posts that support whichever view I favour. It's one of the strengths of GN I think, the mix of views.

I got home from shopping, turned Sky News on and they were still showing Beth Rigby banging on about Keir and donations. This while Keir is busy trying to help avert full scale war in the Middle East. By the same timescale Johnson was getting his divorce sorted, missing Cobra meetings and trying to illegally prorogue parliament. I honestly can’t remember any of that constantly being in the news. I’m happy to be corrected on this.

Just waiting for the headline which says Labour wants ten years in power before calling for the next election….. ten year parliament.

I can just imagine this government changing the rules and the laws like this. Isn't that what Putin did? Just to make sure they stay in power without a vote.

Yes, it certainly is!

How boring would it be if we all thought the same and behaved and reacted the same? It would be like Stepford Wives! A terrifying thought!

MayBee Sky’s obsession with KS’s so-called ‘freebies’ is becoming embarrassing for Sky News - particularly if they want to portray themselves as ‘serious journalists’. I realise they have to follow the orders of their right wing Murdoch paymasters but they’re doing themselves no favours as journalists.

I too started to listen to Beth Rigby interviewing KS today and found her questioning ridiculous. So, I turned over to Chanel 4 News … what a difference! Their journalist conducted an intelligent interview with KS about the important issue of war in the Middle East! He touched briefly on the ‘freebies’ at the end of the interview, giving it minimal time as appropriate to the issue.

In comparison, Beth Rigby / Sky News was like a populist ‘Hello’ magazine interview!

MayBee70 Wed 25-Sept-24 20:23:53

I turned it off straight away as I was so angry. I always found Sky News to be quite fair till recently. DH tells me that ITV this morning with Richard Madeley was full of it, too. Thankfully I’m not an early riser so I missed that.

How about Starmer looks forward to pensioners freezing to death. He won't have to pay so many pensions and may increase the inheritance tax to rob the dead as well. Win win situation.

missdeke Thu 26-Sept-24 11:39:38

Although I'm not a fan, I just wish everybody would just leave Starmer and his government alone, forget all this peripheral nonsense for a while and let them try to get on with the job that they have been elected to do for now. He and his ministers have been knocked back since they have taken over governing the country. At least give them some space to try and get on with the job in hand, so much time is being wasted by them having to answer questions about things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, such as him using someone's house to give his son space to study, if it's all been declared and it's not illegal then they shouldn't have to be wasting time on explaining himself at this point in time. There are quite frankly more important things that require attention.

I like listening to opposing views. I dislike slavishly repeated slogans and memes.

ronib Thu 26-Sept-24 11:44:38

missdeke unfortunately due process was not followed by KS and as a lawyer and pm, it’s not the best look. Not declared until found out seems the new sound bite for this government.

Ilovecheese Thu 26-Sept-24 12:10:01

Starmer thought that if he wrote enough articles for the Sun and the Telegraph, changed the Labour party so that became more like the Tory party and expelled enough socialists then the right wing press would give him a free ride. They won't.

swampy1961 Thu 26-Sept-24 12:14:56

I have to ask - does anyone think that Keir Starmer permanently looks like a startled rabbit in headlights? Either that or is he on some sort of medication?
When you see him speak on TV he seems almost devoid of feeling and quite robotic - almost like he's been taught about what to say and never deviate or show a little humanity. He was the same on his trips abroad.
I feel a little unsettled by him in his position of power.

MayBee70 Thu 26-Sept-24 12:29:41

He’s a lawyer ( or barrister or whatever). Someone that has to measure his words. He doesn’t claim to be a great orator. If you want one of those then vote for someone like Farage who doesn’t have to worry that what he’s eloquently spewing out is a pack of lies.

ronib Thu 26-Sept-24 12:46:03

Yes swampy1961 he does look out of his depth but the gifted designer glasses were to help hide his various eye expressions…. The trick is for the electorate to avoid being on some sort of medication if we think about him too much.

growstuff Thu 26-Sept-24 12:51:47

Good grief!

Is anybody seriously denying that GN is full of childish sniping and insults?
