LW Alli was voted the most influential political figure of the decade, in 2005/6 by Stonewall.

Obviously the fact that by Stonewall standards he is referred to as political figure, means he is not a benign charitable friend.
No doubt he is that also to some.

He has been heavily involved in the media including tv, and we all know the media is the mouthpiece of whoever pays the most.

He as was mentioned above has having had strong links with both Robert Maxwell, and Elizabeth Maxwell.

Along side the mentioned gifts he also gave £10,000 to Sue Grey's son to help facilitate a career as an MP.

Just a few of the many faces that LA has worn over the years.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not a partisan abuser, I'm quite sure the Cons. have similar people in their backgrounds.

Just lets not be hoodwinked by our hopes that the side we support are any different.

Politics is a dirty business. The sooner the sunlight of truth is shone into the festering dark corners the better.

We have to put our big girl pants on and realise that we are being manipulated by all sides.

But I infer that you don't approve of people who make immense fortunes. That's good to know....

We saw during the pandemic who benefitted from being a Tory backer. Contracts were given out by the Tories to their 'friends'. This is why I don't like freebies being given to MPs.
Lord Alli may be just being kind but I think what happened with the Tories has tainted the giving of gifts.
I'm not Labour bashing as I believe freebies to be immoral for any party.

Reading some of the posts on this thread it makes me realise how lucky I've been with my friends. I've been helped in so many ways over the years and I've never once felt that that help came with strings attached. That's obviously not been everyone's experience as they find it impossible to believe that a gift can come without the expectation of a future benefit. I've read nothing to suggest that Lord Alli has benefitted in any way from his support of his friends in the labour party except a temporary pass to number 10 whilst he was organising a party to thank donors which was returned weeks ago. tbh it sounds more like a matter of convenience to me than a scandalous event! With regard to why number 10?well I think that's pretty obvious, number 10 is a symbol of being in government.

Yes, key question, for as I said above, apart for his interest in gay rights way back, he has not been active in any articular aspect of policy within his seat in the HoL.

Yes, he is aligned with more centrist Labour Party politics post Corbyn. And thank goodness given the mess we were in post 2019. (Having sat through endless CLP meetings)

Yes, He is clearly buying influence and targeting those he considers to have the most power.. As has been said elsewhere, Conservative were criticised relentlessly, some of it warranted. Now you have to accept there is concern about this man and saying Tories did it doesn't make it any more honourable.
He is not supporting the Labour Party, few donations during the Corbyn years, although plenty previously to Blair, who gave him his peerage. Now money is lavished on the Starmer family; Reeves, Rayner and Phillipson and others were targeted with personal gifts known as office expenses.

A protege of Alli's, Matthew Faulding, who worked in his BM Creative Management company, was put in charge of candidate selection for the General Election and blamed for imposing favoured candidates on Labour Associations without their agreement. He is now Secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party,' keeping them all in check' apparently.

Labour bashing started the day Starmer became PM , such anger, such desperation, after 14 years of !

He appears honest and has made his fortune himself.

Indeed Anniebach, he's not an outsider drifted in once wealthy or even recently in order to gain perks: he was made a peer in the late 1990's. He's a committed insider.
