I have just seen that on the news, my heart is breaking 💔
I too have just seen this on BBC news.
My heart is breaking too GrannyGravy and it is also full of fear.
Last night I watched the documentary on BBC 2 about the attack on the Israeli Music Festival by Hamas. How anyone can not justify the Israel response is beyond me. The footage had me in tears, innocent young people enjoying a festival were hunted down and shot like animals , the terrorists were all laughing and smiling clearly enjoying their actions as if they were playing a video game, One poor girl could be seen naked in the back of a pick up truck held down by 4 or five men , while others spat on her. It's not hard to imagine what fate awaited her. And yet Israel are now perceived as the baddies in all of this for retaliating to an unprovoked attack. Where were all the protests against Hamas. Unbelievable.

As we type, Iran has started firing missiles into Israel.

Boz maybe that’s the tactic being played by Iran? To spread Israel too thinly? Israel needs to avoid having to fight on multiple fronts unless the US joins in.
Then USA will provide the ammunition.
Am I ducking the issue to say I just despair

I think Israel will have to go straight into Iran to cut the head off the snake.
Oreo there won’t be peace in our lifetime. I think Iran firing missiles at Israel is the wrong move. I fear it’s going to get worse. Life must be very cheap for the governments involved in perpetuating this humanitarian disaster.
It’s a worry for anyone with relatives in Israel, Gaza and Lebanon. We all hope for peace soon.
Let us hope that GrannyGravy is correct and they have found a place of safety.
Babs03 I hope your DH’s relatives are in a place of safety.

Babs I’m a little unsure where your OH’s family are, but you say they are in danger. I hope they remain safe just as much as I hope Philippa’s family stays safe.
It is always the civilians who suffer in war and conflict, whoever and wherever they are.
All Lebanese are in danger. They are from Beirut, God knows where they are now, cannot contact them.

@ronib there is no effective government in Lebanon hasn’t been for years, is just a caretaker government. The country is bankrupt and already had electricity and water rationing every day.
And I think you will find that it is the south suffering the most at the moment, not safe at all.
There is nowhere for countless Lebanese and Syrian people to go.
Many have been sleeping on the Corniche, the seafront, or in parks and schools. But they know how the Israelis fight, have been here before. So no. Nowhere is safe sadly.
But is that because Hezbollah is in charge in the south?
Effective government cannot happen when terrorists take over. I feel sorry for the ordinary peace-loving people, especially the women and children, of any country where this happens.
State of Rage (I didnt watch it either) is described in detail here, it follows two families in the West Bank, from the POV of the children and what they say: one settler family, one West Bank family.

both families have experienced loss, fear and grief.

Did anyone watch State of Rage on ch 4 on Sunday evening.?
Children on both sides of the conflict talking about their experiences living on the West Bank.
No, but I watched the BBC documentary last week, filmed by the young people at the festival in Isrsael, and with film taken from the terrorist’s body cameras. The fear of the young people, being hunted down like animals, was palpable. I had to leave the room a few times as the tension was too much for me. The documentary lasted one and a half hours and I was relieved when it was over. The young people waited for over six hours before they were rescued by the IDF or the police.
Everyone caught up in this situation must be terrified. The children on all sides will be traumatised. How could they not be? But I support the Israelis because they are being attacked and every sovereign state is allowed to protect itself from attacks, war, and terrorism. They must defend their people and their tiny country from these vicious terrorists who want to raze Israel into the ground.
It is good to have the perspective of a person who actually lives in Israel and who is unfortunately needing shelter from missiles daily. Stay safe Philippa and all of your family, and thank you for telling us the truth of what is happening in Israel.
"Israel’s military is killing Palestinians at an average rate of 250 people a day which exceeds the daily death toll of any other major conflict of recent years, Oxfam said today, as the escalation of hostilities nears its 100th day."
Oxfam,January 2024
May your family stay safe, Babs as yours, Phillipa Heartbreaking to see innocent families at risk/in fear over the whole region.
To date, international peace negotiations have been around a two state solution, ie a Palestinian State co-existing within "the river to the sea". I hadn't realised that Likud see the only Palestinian state as Jordan. Where does this leave Gaza and the West Bank?
But in any case the safety of the Lebanese is not up for discussion. And if anything happens to my OHs family or friends it will just be viewed as collateral damage.
And with that I wish you all a good day x
Babs03 my understanding is that all the money has been spent on building underground infrastructure and not on the population. This is no way to build a country. It would be a kindness to free the citizens of Lebanon from the current regime therefore?

I meant Lebanon not under attack in the north…
Babs03 surely it’s in the hands of the Lebanese government to protect its civilians? Israel is in the process of dismantling the vast network of underground tunnels which would have enabled an invasion from Lebanon into northern Israel. I can’t imagine why the Lebanese government think that Israel would just sit and do nothing. Lebanon should be held to account for dropping bombs on civilians in the north of Israel. To my knowledge Lebanon is not under attack in the south? Refugees can be housed there.
I just hope that everyone sympathising with the victims of this conflict are prepared to accept many of those now fleeing - estimated to be a million - into the UK, for they certainly can’t stay in war torn Syria.
We certainly will if our family and friends ever make it. This is a conflict that will affect us all, though not as badly as it is presently affecting refugees who had only got time to escape with the clothes on their backs and now risk the dangers of entering Syria.
Cossy I am anti-war, I am also a realist and realise that there will always be a war raging somewhere in the world.
It is always the civilians that suffer the most, and something which I wholeheartedly abhor is rape used as a weapon of war whether it be towards females or males, I just cannot understand it.
