Will Kier Starmer time as the head of the CPS, ( 2008 to 2013) involve him being questioned with regard to the Al Fayed scandal apparently it was during this time they, the CPS, decided there wasn't enough evidence for a prosecution. We shall wait and seeš¤

She certainly hasn't missed him and hit the wall. There has been a long standing animosity between them.
Dear God Rosie Duffields resignation letter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there something like this with Kier Starmer when he was head of CPS and Jimmy Saville?
Yes there was !!
Yes, there was a fuss - of course there was. Anything to attack Starmer. M0nica's explanation as correct.
I do wish that GNers would check their facts before posting such comments as that of sharon103. It is quick and easy to check the facts on line so why not do so?
Cummings seems to be forgiven and forgotten
He most certainly has not!
Possibly he hadnāt courted publicly in the same way as Mandleson and particularly Campbell, but whatever he is doing, he will never be forgotten and forgiven.
"Scandal"??? What is this? The Sun, Daily Mail?
A decision is taken about whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute in a case. These decisions happen every day. They are not scandals.
Don't let Gransnet sink to the level of the tabloid press ... we are better thanbthat.
I don't know about riding to power on a successful party's coat tails (do you mean the Tories? They were hardly 'successful'), but I've said several times that the government needs much better Comms, and usually the replies are all about how people hated Campbell and Mandelson. Cummings seems to be forgiven and forgotten, but maybe that's the best thing for him.
IMO there are always two (or more) ways to look at something. Presenting one which counters the media version is not necessarily duplicitous - it can just be counter-propaganda. Someone needs to get a handle on this for the government.
Frankly every Labour strategist and planner and dogsbody who has anything to do with the PR and introduction of change that will inevitably follow a change in government, should be out on their ear. A more incompetent set of boobies has yet to ride into power on a successful political parties coat tails.
Politics is all about the management of expectation and selling your ideas, so that people will 1) vote for them 2) be happy about their implementation once you are in power. Once you fail to to convince people that your policies are good for them, or that they will be implemented with thought and care. You might as well pack your bags and go home.
So PR, presentation, marketing are key skills for a successful government. This lot could write the primer on how to fail.

I think what labour are doing is encouraging all these rumours, so that when the budget comes and it is no where as bad as everyone fears, we will all sigh with relief and accept all the bad things it will cocntain as a sweet relief.
This si a standard tactic in circumstances like this.
Iāve wondered that too, M0nica. Itās a risky strategy given the media bias in the UK, though. KS was always going to have a mountain to climb there, and he must have known that. People with money (be they big business owners, press barons or just those who begrudge paying taxes) will do anything to cling to it, and money is power. He must have realised there would be a backlash against any attempt at redistribution.
I hope it is a PR strategy, but there seems to have been so little thought given to PR that I donāt know. A huge double bluff? I donāt see KS as a game player, really, but I suppose we donāt know that yet either- Iām still waiting to see. Thereās no point in rushing to judgment, and I am still hopeful that there will be better times to come. Glass half full, and all that.

Youāre right, itās what they all do, but I think it was overdone in this case, the whole black hole scenario.
Am hoping for better things and a sense of optimism which is important for the country.
To tackle big infrastructure projects, create jobs and boost productivity.Hereās hoping anyway,

Nobody is scared of Keir.
What's happened to the first 100 days thread?I hope Whitewavemark is okay actually, sheās a regular poster and hasnāt been on at all for a little while.
I was thinking the same thing the other day.
I hope allās well.

Oh give over with the nonsense, just a light hearted explanation for a poster not being on here for a week or whatever. We do all have lives and canāt be on forums all the time.

Well if they werenāt well aware of it, they are now, having heard the expressions 22billion black hole and stabilising the economy over and over again.
Can we just get on with things now Keir?
We could still get austerity, though, if government departments are having to make 'savings' on their budgets.
But infrastructure projects should offer a lot of employment and, pouf! just like that, the tax take should improve... So the gap between revenue and routine expenditure should narrow

Just heard that RR will be now borrowing bigtime to get large projects going, thatās something good actually but she didnāt need to frighten everyone with the black hole nonsense constantly spouted or take away the WFA for pensioners first.
The extra money will be for capital projects, infrastructure.
The supposed 'black hole' was in ordinary, day to day spending, which is what the WFA is.
As far as the economy and government accounting is concerned there is a difference.
As far as I'm concerned it was all a load of economic rubbish, anyway, but the idea was to convince voters that Labour were responsible with the nation's finances. I'm sure most people were well aware of that.
Its possible that he was initially denied citizenship because it emerged in the 1990's he was involved in a cash for questions scandal - payments made to two MP's.

The person to blame for what Al Fayed did is Al Fayed himself. I donāt know whether the allegations against him ever crossed Starmerās desk or not, but these allegations did cross the desks of some people. There were many complaints made to the police about him but nothing was ever done. There must have been a reason. Itās interesting that he was denied British citizenship, perhaps now we know why. This man was known about by the establishment for sure, and likely protected by the establishment. Itās just too coincidental that all this has come out now heās dead.

Glad to hear that.
