A woman of integrity.

I think look at the bigger picture Anniebach. What is your precise problem with this young mp?

PuddyCat Sun 29-Sept-24 09:38:44

It was an exceptionally brave thing for RD to do and it comes as no surprise to me at least that it took a woman to do it.

Anniebach Sun 29-Sept-24 09:36:55

But it has been said , not the reason she resigned

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 09:36:43

Thanks for suggesting I watch the Andrew O’Neill interview with RD. I am very impressed by RD.
Exactly what is the precise problem with RD Anniebach? A very measured, thoughtful and truthful young woman. And the LP can’t incorporate her in its government?
I am now very worried for the future of this country.

That's fine though isnt it. I dont tend to see things in terms of honourable really. I think some of the concerns in the letter will be the flaws that bring Starmer down. I dont think Starmer is going anywhere but generally most PM's tenure ends in failure, and it is often possible early on to identify what will be their undoing.

Mt61 Sun 29-Sept-24 09:33:12

Who now, out of that shower of takers, is going to support woman only spaces?
It’s a real subject that needs addressing.

Anniebach Sun 29-Sept-24 09:31:08

Honourable for you ronib not for me

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 09:03:26

Anniebach. yes. Very honourable in the particular circumstances. Sleaze, treatment of the elderly, not changing the two children benefit cap. Hope more follow RD’s example.

Anniebach Sun 29-Sept-24 08:58:28

Is it honourable to stand as a Labour Party candidate then resign as a Labour Party MP less than 3 months later ?,

kittylester Sun 29-Sept-24 08:50:54

It's good to see an honourable politician of whichever party.

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 08:48:35

Casdon well there won’t be. It’s not in the rule book.
Shame that the current government also no longer represents what voters thought was on offer.

Standing as a Labour Party candidate was brave ?

Thanks Anniebach for making this point. Rosie Duffield has been unhappy with the LP for as long as I can recall. She’s long claimed to be isolated, bullied and not supported for her views on the trans activist / women only space issue. Now she’s claiming to speak for others.
She was elected as a Labour MP in July. She will represent the constituents who voted Labour as an independent. I’m surprised no-one is suggesting this triggers a by election.

I am too, particularly as she is one of very few previously held Labour MPs where the previous vote share dropped considerably at the election, which indicates that she isn’t very popular with her constituents.

I’ve said before, I do think there should always be a by election when MPs change their allegiance, as they then no longer represent what their constituents voted for.

NanKate Sun 29-Sept-24 08:35:27

Let us hope there are other Labour MPs like RD who support Women’s Rights as she does. The LP has lost a principled member.

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 08:29:25

Anniebach RD’s letter gives her reasons for resigning quite clearly. You have read the letter? It needs reading.

Iam it’s baffling, a Labour Party candidate who was so against the Labour Party Leader yet she chose to stand again as Labour Party candidate, then resigns less than 3 months after being elected, this is brave !

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 08:12:48

Iam64 It’s okay for Rebecca Long Bailey to stay on as a mp? No bye election trigger request for her?
KS is the problem- he needs to be recalled. Then the LP can move forward.

I admire Rosie. Showing up Ks, AR and his close team who have no decency or integrity about them and a disgrace. Not one bit of shame about them, just greed and total distain for their supporters, mismanagement and reneging on every promise made.
Well done Rosie for your integrity and decency, it took great strength of character and ut will be recognised by those that share them.

BevSec Sun 29-Sept-24 07:36:08

Just read the letter, every word true. Well done Rosie.

karmalady Sun 29-Sept-24 07:23:23

Good for Rosie, she has uplifted my spirits, a woman of principle.

TerriBull Sun 29-Sept-24 07:07:40

Sometimes we're inclined to forget that not every MP is a self serving career politician and there are those who go out on a limb for their principles. RD had already been shunned by some party members and blanked by KS for her stance on Women only places, whilst, he, prevaricated on whether a woman could have a penis or not before the election, which gave us a snapshot of what may come down the line. Well done Rosie Duffield on your resignation for all the reasons you gave in your letter, our country needs brave people like you to set standards that we should expect from a party leader, but time and time again let us down.

Lomo123 Sun 29-Sept-24 06:32:23

👏👏👏. Well said RD. Indeed a woman of principle.

escaped Sun 29-Sept-24 06:25:13

I guess it had to be said by someone with principles in the party. Good for her.

I was saddened to read that no interest had been shown by the Labour party in her constituents (Kent) for over 7 years, how must they feel? Also, reading her say that Starmer has no "understanding", just confirms what most posters are saying on the 8 page thread on GN.

mae13 Sun 29-Sept-24 04:29:15

Rosie Duffield has the backbone that the PM should have. But he's too busy helping his Chancellor kick pensioners in the teeth and doing an inventory of all the glittery freebies from well-to-do sycophants.

Who will expect Sir Keir to run things for THEIR lucrative benefit in return.

It's plain enough - we have a PM who can, shamefully, be bought by the rich.
