Interesting!

Sky News did a piece on it apparently in which Jenrick looked ‘uncomfortable’. Needless to say, it hasn’t hit the main media headlines - I wonder why?

I'm unsure. Would have preferred a one nation opposition I think.

Voices between Labour and Reform, not Reform-Lite.

But there is a lot of time ahead to see how it shapes up, not least because we don't know who will lead..

GrannyGravy13 Thu 10-Oct-24 10:00:10

The two remaining candidates which the membership have to decide on would not have been my choice.

No doubt all opposed to the Conservatives are extremely happy…

Wouldn’t trust Jenrick as far as I could throw him. Thinking back to when he was housing minister and allowed the building of certain homes which back tracked the number of affordable dwellings. Objections to the build were made but Jenrick overruled this and millions were made for this Tory donater.
How he can be running for the leadership is a mystery unless promises are being used to manipulate the voting.

silverlining48 my error, I read the sentence thus: "I saw how much money he has had donated"
Then my mind raced ahead wondering if Jenrick had donated the money to provide a new school library for his daughters' fee paying school.
How silly of me, of course he couldn't do this what with one wife, three daughters and two dogs to feed and three houses to maintain.
Plus he's too busy, twiddling with planning applications that will serve his best interests, to have time to sit for a portrait to hang in the library.

The difference between the figures I gave above and the £300.000 is presumably the time scale,

I added them up only July to August.

You type in the MP name and add registered interests.

silverlining48 Tue 01-Oct-24 18:16:13

Didn’t make myself clear rustyfairy. Or are you joking? 🙃

He has been in receipt of donations over 300,000£.
I don’t know much about him but saw this on a government website. Dont ask where it was, I am not that computer savvy.

therustyfairy Tue 01-Oct-24 17:05:41

silverlining48 I didn't know Jenrick donated money, he's not known for his generosity in his local constituency, who did he give the money too

silverlining48 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:33:14

Not jenrick. I saw how much money he has had donated, and stand to be corrected, but believe it was over 300,000£.

LovesBach Tue 01-Oct-24 15:48:24

Was it Terry Thomas who would say, with such disgust 'What an absolute shower' ?

therustyfairy Tue 01-Oct-24 14:17:29

NOT JENRICK
I very much felt his constant reference to Ben Wallace [a man with more gravitas in his little finger than Jenrick] was Jenrick's attempt to tap into and align himself with someone of standing as did Johnson with Churchill - I believe they call it 'to hang onto the coat-tail of others'.
Unfortunately I am in Jenrick's constituency but not in Newark, the epicentre where most of his acts of benevolance are concentrated and distributed. Wyllow3 is spot on about the dubious smell of 'handouts and pals culture'

We don't actually know what Jenrick spent these huge sums of money on, (as it's not just the firm, thats just the biggest ones, see above or check out th reference as to the sums given and by whom) nor whether he has used his influence in some way.
How can this be OK?

All donations could come with expectations, if it’s ok for one MP or Party it’s ok for all. Unless the expenditure is itemised to the last penny, there will be doubts.

I personally think they should all be stopped and a new system of funding political parties and elections found.

Robert Jenrick was asked repeatedly about this donation in the news this morning, he answered.

Apparently it’s a start up company with a business model of fitness apps.

Do I believe him? probably as much as I believe Lord Alli hasn’t had/doesn’t expect anything from his donations.

Sky report:

“Mr Jenrick said he was not criticising Labour for accepting donations, but rather "their rank hypocrisy"

Pot and kettle comes to mind!

Starmer said he would stamp out cronyism etc, hence the "rank hypocrisy". Think the clothes and glasses.
Jenrick has claimed to do non of this. So he's right.

Hope the company is not based in Austria originating in 1933….just waiting for him to condemn the Austrian general election

LizzieDrip Mon 30-Sept-24 16:23:13

Let’s look out for Beth Rigby et al grilling Jenrick about his donations during the many press opportunities at the Tory Party conference this week.

Holding my breath … not!

LizzieDrip Mon 30-Sept-24 15:49:04

Honest Bob Jenrick eh???

Wyllow3 Mon 30-Sept-24 14:36:24

Jenrick was also involved in a planning scandal:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53172995

“Mr Desmond made a personal donation of £12,000 to the Conservative Party 12 days after the minister overruled government planning inspectors to approve the development.”

LizzieDrip Mon 30-Sept-24 13:14:28

Precisely Wyllow!

Wyllow3 Mon 30-Sept-24 13:11:46

Jenrick has received considerable private donations before the dates I outlined, and from very dodgy sources: for example

"The International Super Rich Bankrolling Robert Jenrick’s Political Ambitions Through Mysterious Companies"

bylinetimes.com/2024/05/17/the-international-super-rich-bankrolling-robert-jenricks-political-ambitions-through-mysterious-companies/

Look at the list and amounts: also that they are international companies, some pretty dodgy,

it beggars belief they didnt expect anything in return
One quote:

He has described Idan Ofer as a family friend (sound familiar?) after concerns were raised when the two met in 2018 while Jenrick, then a junior Treasury Minister, was considering a request for financial support from a mining project that would have rivalled Oder’s own firm Cleveland Potash

These are of far more concern than Starmer's sources: at any rate, they should at least see the light of day in the MSM if judgments are being constantly made.

Well of course a Tory MP will have this issue. According to those on the left all Tory MPs are liars and cads!

We know this.

As for Kier declaring his wardrobe additions , he didn't declare them as wardrobe additions initially.

Well of course a Tory MP will have this issue. According to those on the left all Tory MPs are liars and cads!

Are you saying this with a straight face, or is there a huge element of sarcasm at play here?

Doddledog 🤣👏🤣👏 … and, of course, if the Cat party is supported & promoted by a nationwide dog hating organisation i.e. The Daily Cat, The Cattygraph etc. well …🤷‍♀️

Very true, Lizzie. That does complicate things.

TBH, relating to the Robert Jenrick donations, as compared to the Keir Starmer donations, there are two main issues that trouble me:

Firstly … the unclear origins of RJ’s donations e.g. their provenance

Secondly … the absence of media coverage of RJ’s donations in contrast to the media ‘hysteria’ around KS’s donations.

Rekarie Mon 30-Sept-24 12:12:49

From the Guardian ...

Starmer was given a further £16,000 worth of clothes by the Labour peer Waheed Alli, which was declared as money for his private office, the Guardian can reveal.

The donations, comprising £10,000 in October 2023 and £6,000 in February 2024, bring the total amount in gifted clothes to £32,000.

These latest gifts were not previously known about as they were described as being “for the private office of the leader of the opposition”.
