Thousands of Aussies are now stuck in Lebanon as attacks are increasing. Hopefully our government will arrange to get them out but they are seldom quick in these sort of circumstances. Things are not looking good in the Middle East.

All Jews worldwide I think.

eazybee Wed 02-Oct-24 12:50:05

Israel's plan is initially, survival, followed by a safe and secure homeland for all Israelis.

Jaberwok Wed 02-Oct-24 11:54:09

A safe and secure home sums it up perfectly Allira.

Jaberwok Wed 02-Oct-24 11:52:24

Israel probably doesn't have an end game as such. However Israel is well aware of world wide hostility both to this country, and more scarily, Jews in particular. As has been said Jews have been systematically targeted for centuries, notably the 20th. The homeland for Jews has been hard fought for, with blood sweat and tears a plenty, they will fight to the last person standing to protect themselves, and I wholeheartedly support them.

Allira Wed 02-Oct-24 11:46:02

What do you think Israel's end game is?

A safe and secure home, free from threats and persecution, in their traditional land of thousands of years. A land from which they have been driven on more than one occasion.

That seems quite reasonable.

nanna8 Wed 02-Oct-24 11:35:48

During the Second World War the Jews were persecuted but put up little or no opposition. They did not group together and fight and indeed they were not in a position to fight back. Never again. Now if people attack they will fight back tooth and nail rather than let people walk all over them and take away what was hard won. Hezbollah and Hamas and their ilk would love to wipe them off the face of the earth. Do you think they should make peace with people like this ?

Gist of quote from Golda Meir: 'If the Arabs put down their weapons we could all live in peace, if we (Israelis) put down our weapons, we will all be murdered'. Slight correction, by 'we,' I think she meant Israelis, when in actual fact we now know that 'we' means every single Jew worldwide. Nazi Germany thought the same, chilling eh? Israel certainly needs defending. As for the people who seem to approve of the massacre and the subsequent firing of rockets at Israel from that time forward, it can only believed that anti semitism is alive and well.

I don't believe that many people approve of the massacre or the firing of rockets at Israel.

What do you think Israel's end game is?

The main difference between the Israeli State and Hamas/Hezbollah/The Houthis is Israel has built a defence system to protect its citizens, whilst the terrorists have built tunnels in order to protect the terrorists, and stuff the civilian population …

In a nutshell, Grannygravy13.

Correct GrannyGravy, and posters attacking other posters does absolutely nothing to help us understand the situation.

I don’t regard some victims as more important than others. I wonder why you would say that? I think that statement is offensive and reportable, although I won’t report and I ll leave it here to stand.

Israel had the most brutal attack on their citizens on 07/10/24. Following this, on 08/10/24, Hezbollah started to rain down miles down on Israel, hundreds every day. At the same time Hamas were firing missiles into Israel from Gaza.

I think it entirely appropriate that Israel defends itself and its citizens? Hezbollah and Hamas should not be able allowed to carry on attacking Israel. And now Iran are joining in. Thankfully our Prime Minister believes that Israel cannot continue to be attacked by terrorists constantly.

For what it's worth, no right minded person would be in any shape or form " happy" with what various terrorist groups do.

Running alongside this is utter despair at the ferocity of the retribution.

Watse of time commenting really.

I assume you mean the ferocity of the 181 missiles fired into Israel this afternoon.

I assume you regard some victims as more important than others.

Hideous situation and this doesn't help anybody.

So Starmer not condemning the pounding by Israel Thousands killed in Gaza and now Israel onto Lebanon
Israel not interested in a complete ceasefire If countries keep backing Israel there is no hope I'm ashamed of all the support they are getting to so called defend themselves Starmer should be talking about a complete cease fire

I stand with Israel. Iran and Hezbollah firing on Israel since (October, should they sit back and let them. Would we have let Nazi Germany bombard us without retaliation.
Why should Israel sit back, and be destroyed, because all those Jewish people will be.

Nanna8 - I remember last time there was war and hundreds of Australian Lebanese who had been living in Lebanon for many years with Australian pensions suddenly decided they wanted to come back to Oz!

nanna8 Wed 02-Oct-24 00:17:17

Israel will not give up,especially considering Hezbollah want to wipe it off the face of the earth. Would you ?

I assume all who are in favour of Israel not attacking Hezbolla are content with Hezbollah to continue launching missiles in Israel on a daily basis?

Iran backs and arms Hezbollah!

Yes, you are right GrannyGravy.

why does no-one ever condemn the atrocity committed by Hamas last October, innocent young people kidnapped tortured and shot like animals, you can't blame Israel for retaliating. Hamas , Hezbolla and their like think it's ok to murder other humans because they don't share their beliefs and customs. Most of the Middle East Countries can't even get on with each other . They are mad the lot of them.

It's not true that "most" of the Middle East countries can't get on with each other - most of them do, which is why they're not in the news. There's no denying that there are terrorist groups in the Middle East, but the lot of them aren't mad.

A great many British are still in Lebanon. They have been advised to leave, but leaving isn't particularly easy. Many commercial flights have stopped.

According to this news item the UK government has arranged charter flights to evacuate British citizens, but with some estimated 4 - 5,000 in Lebanon it won't be an easy operation.

British citizens were advised to leave Lebanon in August, and were warned that the situation could deteriorate rapidly.

Says a lot when Lebanese and Syrians who took refuge in Lebanon are fleeing to the war zone that is Syria. They know how Israel fights, any other war zone is safer.

Many Syrians were singing and dancing in the streets when they heard about the missiles dropped on the Hezbollah head honchos.

Yes, the footage was shown on BBC, ITV and SKY.

Israel seems to have a get out of jail free card .Netanyahu should have been locked up for war crimes not just for this but for Israel’s vile treatment of Palestinians for decades.Instead the west keeps supplying them with his weapons of mass destruction. We are all complicit in these deaths

Can’t say that dear, bit of an echo chamber on the other Israel thread where I was piled on for suggesting the same.
Have family and friends in Beirut, cannot contact them but know that if anything terrible has happened they will just be collateral damage. Their lives don’t matter.
However, on second thoughts do keep bloody saying it, but just be prepared for a pile on from Bibi’s Dan club 😡

Don’t know how you’ve the cheek Babs03 to say that when posters have sympathy for your husband's relatives in Lebanon and have hoped they will be safe on the Israel thread.
You were most definitely not piled on!
