Thousands of Aussies are now stuck in Lebanon as attacks are increasing. Hopefully our government will arrange to get them out but they are seldom quick in these sort of circumstances. Things are not looking good in the Middle East.

Israel seems to have a get out of jail free card .Netanyahu should have been locked up for war crimes not just for this but for Israel’s vile treatment of Palestinians for decades.Instead the west keeps supplying them with his weapons of mass destruction. We are all complicit in these deaths

British citizens were advised to leave " on the next flight " before last weekend. Why are there so many Aussies still there ? Does anyone know ?

nanna8 Tue 01-Oct-24 12:24:13

A lot of people with Lebanese parents and family members live here so I would guess many are visiting their relatives. Probably the majority are there for those reasons. I have heard there are no or very few flights back to Australia now.

A great many British are still in Lebanon. They have been advised to leave, but leaving isn't particularly easy. Many commercial flights have stopped.

According to this news item the UK government has arranged charter flights to evacuate British citizens, but with some estimated 4 - 5,000 in Lebanon it won't be an easy operation.

Can’t say that dear, bit of an echo chamber on the other Israel thread where I was piled on for suggesting the same.
Have family and friends in Beirut, cannot contact them but know that if anything terrible has happened they will just be collateral damage. Their lives don’t matter.
However, on second thoughts do keep bloody saying it, but just be prepared for a pile on from Bibi’s Dan club 😡

One million people ( the population of Birmingham approx) displaced. Its absolutely inconceivable.

The population of Birmingham thrown out onto the streets with nothing.

Babs03 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:11:25

@eggplant and now Iran is going to get involved, which is what Bibi wanted all along, everyone in the region knows this. Then the US and of course the UK as its poodle will have to get involved too .

pascal30 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:12:51

This was a disaster waiting to happen ever since Israel escalated the conflict with Iran,, doesn't the world see that the Lebanese and Syrian refugees in Lebanon cannot escape.. The sea routes are blocked... there will be an enormous number of deaths and still our country continues to supply weapons to Israel.. It is truly wicked

Babs03 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:15:13

Says a lot when Lebanese and Syrians who took refuge in Lebanon are fleeing to the war zone that is Syria. They know how Israel fights, any other war zone is safer.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:29:28

I assume all who are in favour of Israel not attacking Hezbolla are content with Hezbollah to continue launching missiles in Israel on a daily basis?

Iran backs and arms Hezbollah!

why does no-one ever condemn the atrocity committed by Hamas last October, innocent young people kidnapped tortured and shot like animals, you can't blame Israel for retaliating. Hamas , Hezbolla and their like think it's ok to murder other humans because they don't share their beliefs and customs. Most of the Middle East Countries can't even get on with each other . They are mad the lot of them.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:54:23

nellflnders I totally agree, Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis are all despicable, the heinous acts that committed that day will never leave my mind.

Hamas continue to kill and torture those who do not follow them in Gaza, there are horrific videos put up on UTube and on other social media platforms of their actions…

Totally agree. In fact, I'd give more arms to Israel.

For what it's worth, no right minded person would be in any shape or form " happy" with what various terrorist groups do.

Running alongside this is utter despair at the ferocity of the retribution.

Watse of time commenting really.

Don’t know how you’ve the cheek Babs03 to say that when posters have sympathy for your husband's relatives in Lebanon and have hoped they will be safe on the Israel thread.
You were most definitely not piled on!

Many Syrians were singing and dancing in the streets when they heard about the missiles dropped on the Hezbollah head honchos.

It's not true that "most" of the Middle East countries can't get on with each other - most of them do, which is why they're not in the news. There's no denying that there are terrorist groups in the Middle East, but the lot of them aren't mad.
