I would go further and make it impossible to access basic facilities (doctors/housing/education/ etc) without an ID card. No way to buy in shops, stay in hotels, exchange money, open a bank account and so forth.

The overall figure could well be right, it will be the effect of decades of minimal control systems, mainly on people who were here on short term work and student visas who stay on illegally I would guess. I’ve said, as have others, many times on here, that the over concentration of the media and Gransnetters on boat migrants completely ignores the real issue, which is the overall migration number, and the lack of an ID card system and checking system.

My closest neighbours are strict Muslins and very good friends, one of my closest girlfriends is Muslim.

They are very worried about the disproportionate number of males arriving here.

Yes, winds of 50 - 60 knots, equating to 7 on the Beaufort scale, near gale force, would explain why there were fewer in August 2024 as well. The crossings are undeniably weather dependant, so the figures are somewhat skewed.

I’ll say it again. It’s the trend you need to look for. One day’s figures is a nonsense comparator, one month’s figures can be due to specific factors, one season’s figures can be due to weather, although unlikely for three consecutive months, one year’s figures is a reasonable way to look at whether change is happening.
