Absolutely FGT2 Beggars belief that they couldn't hit the ground running- not like they didn't have enough time to prepare.

I think that with the state of the world that this is realistically the future for this country...

Seems this is no easy task and because governments are short termist they just make impossible promises to the electorate to win enough votes to be in power for the next 4/5 years.
The home office is not fit for purpose, we need a new department that can tackle this problem effectively and humanely, the best working model would be to process refugees in Europe, but this would mean having a much stronger working relationship with EU members, and stopping illegal claims then and there whilst letting genuine refugees through. This means refugees would have safer routes, gangs wouldn’t have as much involvement, and there’d be no more tragedies in the channel.
Not my idea specifically, many have floated those idea before but it will probably take longer than 4/5 years so a short termist government will probs just apply a sticking plaster.

I think both sides should work together on this.

Yes I think there should be cross party cooperation with everyone entering into the debate and hopefully agreeing on a humane course of action.
But I won’t hold my breath.

The Tories accomplished what exactly??? They wasted absolute millions on unworkable methods. The world is so volatile with many many more refugees likely to search for a safe haven. The World in general needs to work together to make these peoples homelands safe which is no easy task.

I think not.

They did not come up with a cohesive ,transparent plan, they did not work within Europe, they preferred the Rwanda nonsense and todying to the rabid right wingers.

This is surely not party political. Both Labour and the Tories want to solve the boats issue. If it was easy it would have been sorted by now. Clearly it is not a simple thing to resolve.

I cannot understand why the passengers trying to disrupt the course of justice weren't taken off the plane, and the court decision carried out. Someone with backbone was needed, but clearly wasn't around on that day.

Not simple at all but KS could have at least tried the Rwanda threat to see if it helped the situation.Those who knew about it moved themselves to Ireland asap, expect they’re all back in the UK now.

How can the boats legally be turned back?

If it could be done, it would have been done long ago! It was seriously considered before the Rwanda plan was developed and not viable. Surely we don't have to go through this non starter yet again?

Exactly this and it pertains to any other country that has migration issues like the USA . We are privileged to live in a wealthy, peaceful country .
