Thank you Casdon, a very positive move, I didn't know. Just shows how when something positive happens it gets ignored.
How long will this continue?
No word yet from Yvette Cooper who insists “smashing the gangs” is the way to stop this. Hmm.

If Rwanda was such a daft plan, expensive, unworkable then why is Germany considering it?
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyl5p2zd50o
Labour, when in Opposition just howled about it. Fair enough if they have another ‘very cunning plan’.
I just hope they announce some progress soon. Yvette Cooper has been very quiet since gripping the steering wheel of power.
I’m sure you know that Germany is considering using Rwanda for processing only, completely different from the Tories’ unworkable plan and that France offered to set up processing facilities which the Tory government turned down.
If capable immigrants were allowed to work, their contribution would be positive.
Much of this thread is close to hate talk.

Considering and doing are two different things . I don’t see Germany ever doing this for obvious reasons .

Now I'm no meteorologist, but the reason the number of arrivals is currently lower this Autumn is due to the atrocious sea conditions in the Channel. Anything above force 5 on the Beaufort scale and you're unlikely to make it across. High winds and unprecedendeted swells have caused disruption even amongst cross channel ferries in the past few weeks. Essential food and medical supplies couldn't be delivered to Jersey due to bad weather, and crossings in The Channel were re routed and cancelled. I was on one such crossing last weekend. Migrants would certainly be taking their lives in their hands in these conditions, so I'm sure that has some bearing on the figures.
Having said that, I agree that the numbers are of great concern and that something needs to be done as soon as possible.
There were less in August too. Here are the full facts and figures. I’m not saying that October won’t be higher, but that it is a retrospective look at the months since Labour took power compared with last year that should be the benchmark.

Well the last government had all the time they were in opposition to prepare and then 14 years in government.
And every plan they came up with was thwarted…
People stopping planes taking off with foreign criminals preventing them from being deported.
Clergy giving lessons in Christianity in order for Muslim asylum seekers to get leave to remain…Do you really believe that the government of the UK could have been thwarted by a few leftie lawyers and bimbling old priests?
I think not.
They did not come up with a cohesive ,transparent plan, they did not work within Europe, they preferred the Rwanda nonsense and todying to the rabid right wingers.
Just for you, eggplant.
He could very well be living very close to you.

This is surely not party political. Both Labour and the Tories want to solve the boats issue. If it was easy it would have been sorted by now. Clearly it is not a simple thing to resolve.
I agree that this is an issue which needs cross party agreement, not controversial knee jerk plans designed to appeal to a section of the electorate. The current situation in the Middle East caused by Netanyahu bombing Lebanon and Gaza have made an already volatile region even more so and displaced around a million people. What is to happen to them? Will those who support Netanyahu's bombing campaigns welcome the subsequent flood of terrified and traumatised refugees?
Note: this does not mean I support Hamas or Hizbollah.

Perhaps the cleric who facilitated this man's conversion from Islam to Christianity might be asked "just how gullible are you?"
Only those who don’t look at the bigger picture base their judgments on one day’s arrivals. 4,190 migrants made the crossing over the Channel in September, down from 4,729 in 2023 and the lowest number of arrivals in four years.
This isn’t a simple situation, and success is only possible to judge in retrospect, but the much shouted ‘Open doors, it will be far worse under Labour’ has not happened at all, so far at least.

How many came over legally,?
Rwanda would never have worked . That much is clear if you looked at it in detail . Just something to appease and not a viable solution . Plus insanely expensive .

They won’t stop them. They can’t stop them. Smashing the gangs is never going to work. The only way is to turn the boats back to the safe country they have left. Like FGT had said they have had 24 years to develop a plan.
Exactly this and it pertains to any other country that has migration issues like the USA . We are privileged to live in a wealthy, peaceful country .

How can the boats legally be turned back?
If it could be done, it would have been done long ago! It was seriously considered before the Rwanda plan was developed and not viable. Surely we don't have to go through this non starter yet again?

Not simple at all but KS could have at least tried the Rwanda threat to see if it helped the situation. Those who knew about it moved themselves to Ireland asap, expect they’re all back in the UK now.

eggplant Last year a news report said that a man convicted of serious crimes was on a plane, to be deported to Kingston. Several passengers created such chaos that he was taken off the plane.
I cannot understand why the passengers trying to disrupt the course of justice weren't taken off the plane, and the court decision carried out. Someone with backbone was needed, but clearly wasn't around on that day.
I remember that, what idiots those passengers were.

The Tories accomplished what exactly??? They wasted absolute millions on unworkable methods. The world is so volatile with many many more refugees likely to search for a safe haven. The World in general needs to work together to make these peoples homelands safe which is no easy task.
