The plans were thwarted because they weren’t workable and cost us, the taxpayer, many millions if not billions over the years.

Are you saying that the U.K. should not deport/repatriate foreign nationals if they have committed crimes here?

The man that through corrosive substance at a women and her daughters, was said by friends to be a good Muslim despite having converted to Christianity in order to get leave to remain on his third attempt.

I think both sides should work together on this.

Yes I think there should be cross party cooperation with everyone entering into the debate and hopefully agreeing on a humane course of action.
But I won’t hold my breath.

Seems this is no easy task and because governments are short termist they just make impossible promises to the electorate to win enough votes to be in power for the next 4/5 years.
The home office is not fit for purpose, we need a new department that can tackle this problem effectively and humanely, the best working model would be to process refugees in Europe, but this would mean having a much stronger working relationship with EU members, and stopping illegal claims then and there whilst letting genuine refugees through. This means refugees would have safer routes, gangs wouldn’t have as much involvement, and there’d be no more tragedies in the channel.
Not my idea specifically, many have floated those idea before but it will probably take longer than 4/5 years so a short termist government will probs just apply a sticking plaster.

Well the last government had all the time they were in opposition to prepare and then 14 years in government.

And every plan they came up with was thwarted…

People stopping planes taking off with foreign criminals preventing them from being deported.

Clergy giving lessons in Christianity in order for Muslim asylum seekers to get leave to remain…

Sorry 14 years not 24!🤦‍♀️

They won’t stop them. They can’t stop them. Smashing the gangs is never going to work. The only way is to turn the boats back to the safe country they have left. Like FGT had said they have had 24 years to develop a plan.

I think that with the state of the world that this is realistically the future for this country...

They had 14 years in opposition to formulate their plan. They cancelled Rwanda on Day 1. Germany were delighted I bet as beneficiaries of that abandoned attempt at a solution to irregular migrants. I believe they are going to look into using the camp (at a discounted price).

Absolutely FGT2 Beggars belief that they couldn't hit the ground running- not like they didn't have enough time to prepare.

Smash the Gangs

Stop the Boats

Meaningless sound bites, this Government had plenty of years to formulate plans, instead they are beginning to look like rabbits caught in headlights.

Gosh yes she really should have sorted this within days of forming government. What on earth do we pay them for?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 06-Oct-24 13:50:13

How long will this continue?

No word yet from Yvette Cooper who insists “smashing the gangs” is the way to stop this. Hmm.
