The US Election.

With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.

Trump is warning America of his intention post election.

“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.

Im not resigned, hoping so much he will never hold office again.

MayBee70 Wed 23-Oct-24 23:53:11

I’m resigned to the fact that he will win. I just can’t get my head around why anyone would vote for him.

I too am worried if Trump wins it’s very bad news for Ukraine

I’m worried about that too.

Aveline Wed 23-Oct-24 21:45:21

He just gets worse and worse

Trump said, "I need the kind of generals Hitler had".

Yes, for real.

Then I apologise for my comment if it’s due to a fatality.

So shares in MacDonalds have taken a nosedive …oh dear…

Because of an outbreak of E.Coli MayBee. One man has died and a child. Nothing to do with Trump’s PR stunt.

President Trump brought an economic boom, international peace and security, working class wage growth, strong leadership, humour and goodwill. He disrupted the corporate influence of those who do not have the interests of the American people at heart.

He is going to win by a landslide.

That is a seriously not factual statement . Trump brought criminal activity to the Whitehouse , he brought an insurrection on Jan 6 . He is a thief , a liar and convicted felon with rape amongst his convictions . Let’s speak the truth not falsehoods .

I too am worried if Trump wins it’s very bad news for Ukraine.

I’m pleased that Kamala would give women rights over their own bodies regarding abortion. However she does not appear to want to protect women’s sport from the trans community. And before anyone accuses me of being anti trans I am not, they should have their own sports events.

I still laugh out loud at him calling Elizabeth Warren (who claimed to have Red Indian - sorry, Native American - ancestry) Pocahontas.

Wyllow3 Wed 23-Oct-24 13:53:06

Let's not forget if Trump wins support for Ukraine is likely to be withdrawn - he wants to force a "compromise" where Ukraine gives up territory.

He intends to dismantle any independent judiciary. He intends that the FBI will no longer be independent by having it led by political appointees.

Forget it if you are poor and desperately need medical care including cancer beyond the most basic treatment. It ain't going to get better.

He will do nothing about the appalling gun culture where individuals can buy automatic weapons in many states with no checks.

Trump cares about one thing only, and thats his narcissistic desire to be POTUS. He can't work as a team. He really believes he knows more on a whole slew of subjects and shown only gross ignorance. Its all image.

I take the warnings of his past chiefs of staff regarding the military very, very seriously.

The only thing we do know is that it’s going to be very close, I’m relaxed, the world didn’t end when Trump was president last time, he wouldn’t be my choice, in the same was that Johnson wasn’t.
Will Trump do as much damage as Johnson - probably not

Let us not forget January 6th . It was a terrible event in the USA history . People died . If it wasn’t for the quick thinking of one Capitol police officer who helped politicians to safety by misdirecting the rioters it could have been far worse . Please don’t minimise how dangerous Trump will be . Last time there were people who kept him from making dangerous decisions this time that may not be the case .

Aveline Wed 23-Oct-24 13:21:31

Ah you're adopting his general illiteracy Friedgreentomatoes2.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 23-Oct-24 12:34:53

He's going to win. Win bigly. So very bigly. 😁

NotSpaghetti Wed 23-Oct-24 11:00:20

Obviously I mean the McDonald's stunt!

I dont pretend to know America well but I guess something similar is happening there.

Galaxy Tue 22-Oct-24 16:58:39

Perhaps they dont keep telling them they are stupid.
Both Johnson and Farage whether we like it or not have an ability to tap into the views of some of the population and to communicate with people.
If I am being honest I would say that the left or the centre left have become achingly middle class and that alienates many people. It probably alienates me and I am middle class!

MayBee70 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:19:43

But why do they think Trump or Reform represent them other than the fact they say they do?

Galaxy Tue 22-Oct-24 15:43:12

Because they dont in any way feel represented by current governments.

MayBee70 Tue 22-Oct-24 15:06:29

Also shows how these populist politicians ( I use the word politician lightly) have incredibly rich backers which makes one wonder what’s in it for them. And question why poor people think they’re there to help them.

^Remember Boris with the JCB smashing the polystyrene brick wall to ‘Get Brexit Done’?^

Of course. And we are living with the aftermath of electing a self seeking, corrupt, narcissistic, mendacious, idle and incompetent individual. Which is why some of us are deeply worried by Trump.

I’m not.
And I think Boris would make a better fist of things now, post Covid.
Anyway, Trump will win in my opinion (and others) so that’s something.

MayBee70 Tue 22-Oct-24 12:09:21

I don’t understand why the British media have given Trumps McDonalds stunt so much coverage. He also said that Harris lied about working at McDonalds which I would assume is a false accusation?

Aveline Tue 22-Oct-24 09:54:52

Trump is like a cartoon Bond villain!
