The US Election.

With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.

Trump is warning America of his intention post election.

“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.

We see our politicians doing mundane ordinary things why not Trump.
I do question the intelligence of voters, UK voters elected Johnson and we are still suffering from that, US voters probably won’t do more damage if they do elect Trump, so let’s not claim any high ground.

I don’t think it’s to do with IQ, I think it’s a combination of factors - feeling you are hard done by, a lack of interest in corruption as a means to get the result you want, and gullibility. However base their motives, some would be leaders have the charisma to appeal to the voters who fall into one or all of those categories - and they use force if all else fails.

Remember Boris with the JCB smashing the polystyrene brick wall to ‘Get Brexit Done’?

Of course. And we are living with the aftermath of electing a self seeking, corrupt, narcissistic, mendacious, idle and incompetent individual. Which is why some of us are deeply worried by Trump.

Not just the bookies Grundy I quoted the gold markets too.

You have to give Trump kudos (his PR) for pulling the McDonald’s stunt! Optics count in an election for the masses. Not every voter has a high I.Q. so politicians have to engage in different ways!

The world won't end but it will hasten the change in world order to the detriment of the Western world. IMO Trump is bad news for anyone who cares about democracy and stable government .

Aveline Tue 22-Oct-24 08:02:24

I still have a lingering hope that enough Americans with more than one brain cell will vote for a person with integrity, fundamental morality and a grasp of reality ie not Trump.

Galaxy Tue 22-Oct-24 07:55:06

I agree, I suspect he may win but I dont think the world will end.

David49 Tue 22-Oct-24 07:10:05

The only thing we do know is that it’s going to be very close, I’m relaxed, the world didn’t end when Trump was president last time, he wouldn’t be my choice, in the same was that Johnson wasn’t.
Will Trump do as much damage as Johnson - probably not

Macadia Mon 21-Oct-24 22:54:35

I agree with what Republican Geoff Duncan just said: " He and other Republican officials who are backing Harris are “truly, genuinely embarrassed every time (Trump) sees a microphone or a camera, every time he walks and talks to the military, every time he speaks about faith, every time he talks about fiscal conservatism — he’s a fraud.”

FGT2 I don’t know anything about the Telegraph, but I believe you are following some misinformation.

By all means - do follow all the arbiters of truth… the bookies! 😉
Let’s catch up after the election.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 21-Oct-24 21:39:16

Well the fantastic PR by Trump at McDonald’s has driven the lefties absolutely crazy ...but they know it connects and is pure genius...

From the Business section in the Telegraph today:

“Markets are rapidly ramping up their bets on a Trump presidency, and the result is a stronger dollar, surging interest rates on long-term government debt, a jump in cryptocurrency prices, and a new record high in gold prices.

The opinion polling website ‘FiveThirtyEight’ shows Kamala Harris’s lead over Trump in the polls is narrowing steadily. In late August, she had a 3.7 percentage point lead in the popular vote; today she is ahead by just 1.8 points.

Because of the structure of the US electoral college system, this means Trump is currently on track for victory. “It is all about the swing states. Even if the polls are accurate, there is a very strong risk that Trump becomes president,”

But right now it is a Democratic win that would take markets by surprise. “If Harris wins the presidency, even if she doesn’t get control of the Senate, that would be the bigger shock,”

President Trump brought an economic boom, international peace and security, working class wage growth, strong leadership, humour and goodwill. He disrupted the corporate influence of those who do not have the interests of the American people at heart.

He is going to win by a landslide.

Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, the betting markets believe.

The bookies have rallied around the Republican candidate with the former president receiving his best odds since the end of July, analysis shows.

On Friday, the former president’s implied odds hit 59 per cent, the highest figure since July 30 – just two days before Democrat delegates began the formal process to endorse Kamala Harris.

Weekend take away - Trump praises Arnold Palmer's genitalia....

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Donald Trump’s campaign suggested he would begin previewing his closing argument Saturday night with Election Day barely two weeks away. But the former president kicked off his rally with a detailed story about Arnold Palmer, at one point even praising the late, legendary golfer’s genitalia.

Trump was campaigning in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where Palmer was born in 1929 and learned to golf from his father, who suffered from polio and was head pro and greenskeeper at the local country club.

Politicians saluting Palmer in his hometown is nothing new. But Trump spent 12 full minutes doing so at the top of his speech and even suggested how much more fun the night would be if Palmer, who died in 2016, could join him on stage.

Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women,” Trump said. “This is a guy that was all man

It must be a very worrying and uncomfortable time for you Gundy

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 21-Oct-24 07:01:10

Thank you Gundy - this has been useful in learning how it looks from your side of the pond.

Syracute Sun 20-Oct-24 22:49:25

Thanks Gundy for your excellent reporting on what is actually going on back home . People shouldn’t take to heart all the nasty gram reporting on the Daily Mail that is all in for Trump .

Gundy Sun 20-Oct-24 22:49:07

If Harris should be blessed with a victory, this does not mean the end of MAGA. They’re not going anywhere. The cult movement is made up mostly of younger white men - who happen to identify with the bullying, cruel Trump - they’re all very aggrieved. And we should be prepared for them to keep a higher profile after this election, not going quiet and underground since January 6th insurrection four years ago.

We live in interesting times… and we’re all in this together.

Gundy Sun 20-Oct-24 22:38:07

Oreo Just the opposite! She got a healthy bump in support and the TV ratings were HUGE for that network! FOX NEWS is hostile territory for Harris but she was secure and confident enough to go up against them. It has paid off‼️

Casdon Once you become a Never-Trumper you can 1) vote for Harris 2) not vote at all 3) cast your ballot for third party or do a secret vote no one will ever know… But most prominent people have ENDORSED HER so they’ll vote for her and are campaigning for her. Just because you’re a Republican that hates Trump and will be crossing party line to vote for a Democrat this one time will not make you a Democrat! These people are far more concerned in saving our nation, our republic and our Democracy FIRST.

Wyllow3 and Aveline It has become dangerous for the brave prominent people who are supporting Harris as their lives and their families have been threatened by very misguided, mean and vicious MAGA cult members. (death threats) Best to just keep your head down till after the election.

NotSpaghetti That is a very good ad for Harris to put out, helping women who are married to MAGA understand that *if their conscience is telling them to vote for the candidate who will protect women’s rights and freedoms they have permission to do that secretly*‼️ No wife should vote in allegiance or in tandem with their husband if they disagree. Why should they?? Every woman is their own person.

foxie48 The ballots are messy in some states as they are not equal. So there is always Independents that will make a bonkers choice that might help one candidate or other. But it’s minimal damage - usually.

Wyllow3 Back to you - Musk is being investigated by Justice Dept now for essentially buying votes for Trump. We’ll see where this ends up. Just because you’re rich does not make you smart‼️ Duh…

(Once again - sorry this is long. Thank you for your curiosity and interest in the outcome of this election - the whole world is watching.)

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Oct-24 14:47:18

Elon Musk is beyond disgusting. He is literally buying votes in Pennsylvania!

Musk to give away $1m per day to Pennsylvania voters

It's difficult to know how Kennedy will affect voting as he's still on the ballot in some states including Michigan and Wisconsin. He's telling voters to vote for Trump but it does give some voters a chance to avoid Trump and Harris in some states. Hopefully if they do avoid Trump it will help Harris even if they vote for Kennedy but not necessarily as some reluctant Harris voters might also vote Kennedy.

NotSpaghetti Sat 19-Oct-24 16:23:06

There was a Harris advert that I saw a couple of weeks ago saying basically that when you cast your vote it is private and it said something like "your husband doesn't need to know".
