The US Election.

With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.

Trump is warning America of his intention post election.

“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.

Me too Wyllow3. I sincerely hope the majority think like us.

Wyllow3 Sat 19-Oct-24 15:42:33

If I lived in a very pro Trump community I'd keep my mouth shut and wait till voting day, it must feel that dangerous in some places.

Casdon Sat 19-Oct-24 15:38:34

What do you think the non Trump supporter republicans will do on voting day Gundy, not vote at all, or closet vote for Harris, as that could make a big difference?

Oreo Sat 19-Oct-24 15:33:19

After the Fox interview with KH independent political journalists seem to think Trump now has a better chance of winning😲

Gundy Sat 19-Oct-24 15:27:00

Wyllow3 More are coming out close to the election, joining other past Republicans in Trump administration along with more military brass AND Federal Judges. The US Bar Association (Attorneys) also issued a statement about Trump’s unfitness for office. Many of Trump’s legal counsel have been either indicted, convicted or disbarred.

People previously close to Trump are the ones you have to listen to! People still supporting DT…. you know are part of his cult, because he’s running on a fascist platform.

Aveline Sat 19-Oct-24 15:17:47

A nice American couple we met on holiday were saying that they didn't know which would be worse - Trump winning or what he might do if he didn't win. Lose/lose for USA

Wyllow3 Sat 19-Oct-24 13:31:56

Always good to hear from the US, Gundy.

Bannon versus Musk vying to be Trumps bestie friend, now that's an interesting one. but Musk has the money...

Are current chiefs of staff military wise actually making statements? Been aware of past ones commenting.

Trump already interfering in the election process - the concerns me a great deal as to what could happen.

Gundy Sat 19-Oct-24 13:23:41

Aveline, Wyllow3 US citizen here. I had to laugh about the collective IQ of Americans supporting Republican candidate Trump - TRUE! Sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity of their choice… because if you don’t laugh the reality is sickening. His “threats” are dangerous to our freedoms and democracy.* His own previous administration, including military Joints Chief of Staff, have all turned against him and are warning the electorate of him being deranged and totally unfit for any office! We knew that.

Polls are close currently, but you cannot rely on polls either as they are deceptive - people lie on these surveys to throw off the trend. How many times have they been inaccurate when the final tally has been counted? I don’t believe in them.

There are closet voters on both sides! I do believe there will be many common sense Republicans to cast a vote against Trump this time because he’s inflicted such exhaustion and chaos in people’s minds, they’re sick of him! Especially women who are targeted in Project 2025 to have voting rights snd personal freedoms taken away. How would you like that?

Kamala Harris is surging right now from a grass roots perspective. She has a very strong ground game in place to get people out to vote. She happens to be the adult in this game right now. Trump has already placed people in each state’s election board to NOT CERTIFY the results (if KH wins…) is this chaos or not?

With Steve Bannon being released from prison shortly, he will run to Trump’s side for further meddling - but now he may find an adversary in Elon Musk. Every single one of them is unhinged. We’ll see how that works out.
Sorry this is so long. We’re trying to stay strong for YOU too‼️

Truly, I think it's insignificant when faced with Conservatives and Reform speak up in favour of Trump here and in the USA, and the influences of social media. I'm not shocked or surprised that some want to go over and help out. They aren't there to affect policy or purport to represent the UK.

Where was the media outrage when Brit politicians attended and spoke at Trump rallies?

You mean Farage and who else?
They aren’t the present Labour government or their staff/ activists.
Seems to me that my Party cannot get its head round the fact that they’re not just in Opposition anymore. They need to grow up, be diplomatic and not interfere in any way at all.

Farage and two former UK prime ministers.

Thanks Wyllow3
... but it's just more of the same and those in his cult really don't care.

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 18:43:04

Back in the USA...

“Fact check: Trump, on a lying spree, made at least 40 separate false claims in two Pennsylvania speeches”

edition.cnn.com/2024/10/10/politics/fact-check-trump-pennsylvania-speeches/index.html

Worth a read. some are quite outrageous, and if people believe them....

Two wrongs do not make a right!

We have to make allies of foreign politicians, but we should not go on the campaign trail for them, whatever colour the rosette is!

I'm waiting for some verify fact checks as to the story, as its only appeared so far as a "shock horror" item in the right wing press per report above.

Ludicrous headlines like GB news

"Labour staffers flood US"

What, 100 people "flood?" In a USA population of 345,426,571 people

As for "interference" well look at Elon Musks's constant attempts on X to incite the rioting in the UK in the summer, predicting"civil war".

I've no problems in principle for L party members to go over and help - I want to see the accurate T's and C's of what they'll do. They are not politicians.

Wyllow3
Oh come on! It’s political meddling by LP members and I’m shocked that my Party would do this!

Wyllow3 capitalising on links which is something all political parties of all countries do is entirely different so sending out Party Activists to assist/canvass in another countries elections.

For the record, I am against outside activity by any country in another’s election. Look at all the hoo ha over alleged Russian interference in elections/referendums.

Well said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

“Labour is sending almost 100 current and former party staff members to the US to campaign for the Democrats in swing states.

Activists from Sir Keir Starmer’s party will spend the next two-and-a-half weeks canvassing for Kamala Harris in four key battlegrounds ahead of the US election on Nov 5.

They will target Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, which are all seen as crucial to Ms Harris’ path to the White House.”

Source: today’s Telegraph

If Trump wins I think this may just bite Labour (and by definition) us in the UK on the bum.

And IF he wins, in a few months some on here will have forgotten this meddling act. And just blame Trump anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Just seen your comments😁I have put the same on the other thread about this, great minds think alike.

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 14:26:38

How would I feel if democrats came over in tiny numbers to help out with a national election? Tbh, it depends what they are doing. Office discussions on strategy not policy is what I'm assuming the 100 are for.

I think the far more problematic area nowadays are international social media influencers. They caused the riots, for goodness sake, without having to move from an armchair. Musk and others, like Tate, are accessible to anyone on social platforms.

Oops premature posting

I would be fuming and complaining to the local Conservative Party Office and HQ!

High profile Tories have recently appeared at the national rally and various other events to support Donald Trump’s campaign, which is really no different - in fact it probably does more damage to the opposition than foot soldiers.

Just to clarify, I don’t agree with any involvement at all, but the pot calling the kettle black is wrong.

Macadia Fri 18-Oct-24 14:22:00

They vote for the person who resembles power. He has very little knowledge about the world and they have close to none. So they vote for a daddy rather than a mum.

Syracute Fri 18-Oct-24 14:06:25

As a US citizen living in Britain it is really embarrassing and down right appalling that Trump garners so much support in the USA. It is a clear sign that education standards have fallen and that many news organizations peddle false narratives .
I only hope that the quiet supporters vote in higher numbers .
I am so happy I no longer live in the USA. It has clearly become a country that is not the one I grew up in.
I dread what would happen if Trump gets elected.

The Russian State interference isn't in anyway comparable!

I really think the 100 helpers is storm in a teacup compared with the kinds of links which politicians make in their political contacts and deals made.

I can only hope you keep this opinion American Republican party loyalists come over here and help canvas for the Conservatives in our next GE.
