The US Election.

With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.

Trump is warning America of his intention post election.

“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.

Wyllow3 capitalising on links which is something all political parties of all countries do is entirely different so sending out Party Activists to assist/canvass in another countries elections.

For the record, I am against outside activity by any country in another’s election. Look at all the hoo ha over alleged Russian interference in elections/referendums.

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 13:16:26

I'm just debunking the myth that it's shock horror time if 100 Labour activists turn up to help, given that the far right in the UK have support and strong links with Trump.

Accept the reality of both!

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/nigel-farage-donald-trump-richard-tice-david-lammy-reform-uk-b2616448.html

"Farage plays up links with Trump and criticises Harris’s ‘radical left’ history
Nigel Farage and his deputy Richard Tice sought to capitalise on their links with the Trump campaign at Reform UK’s party conference."

I didn't say it had nothing to do with the Labour Party, I said it wasn't a government initiative. No politicians are going - unlike Farage and Trump.

Its no great surprise - the Labour Party has always attended Democratic Party conventions,

Just as Farage and Reform have not only courted the Republican Party but received very vocal support from Trump himself!

*Trump congratulates right-wing ally Nigel Farage on UK election win
Earlier this year, Trump sent a 60th birthday message to Farage calling him ‘a historic figure’ and ‘a prophetic leader*

Trump took to his Truth Social platform to congratulate his old friend

Congratulations to Nigel Farage on his big WIN of a Parliament Seat Amid Reform UK Election Success,” he wrote

GrannyGravy13 Fri 18-Oct-24 12:36:11

It has been organised by the Head of Operations of the Labour Party

How is this nothing to do with the Labour Party?

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 12:32:36

I don't doubt that 100 are going, but it is legal in the US,
its not an official government initiative, its a group within Labour, and I don't have a problem as advisory volunteers

(To check, New York Sun says "The Federal Elections Commission confirms to The New York Sun that unpaid activity by foreigners is perfectly legal.")

It's not up in either CNN or Fox News.

(PS - go Kamala!)

GrannyGravy13 Fri 18-Oct-24 12:09:15

Wyllow3 have just seen this.

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 12:05:54

I'm waiting for some verify fact checks as to the story, as its only appeared so far as a "shock horror" item in the right wing press per report above.

Ludicrous headlines like GB news

"Labour staffers flood US"

What, 100 people "flood?" In a USA population of 345,426,571 people

As for "interference" well look at Elon Musks's constant attempts on X to incite the rioting in the UK in the summer, predicting"civil war".

I've no problems in principle for L party members to go over and help - I want to see the accurate T's and C's of what they'll do. They are not politicians.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 18-Oct-24 11:33:29

“Labour is sending almost 100 current and former party staff members to the US to campaign for the Democrats in swing states.

Activists from Sir Keir Starmer’s party will spend the next two-and-a-half weeks canvassing for Kamala Harris in four key battlegrounds ahead of the US election on Nov 5.

They will target Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, which are all seen as crucial to Ms Harris’ path to the White House.”

If Trump wins I think this may just bite Labour (and by definition) us in the UK on the bum.

And IF he wins, in a few months some on here will have forgotten this meddling act. And just blame Trump anyway. 🤷‍♀️

foxie48 Fri 18-Oct-24 11:21:30

I've just listened to TRIP US, today's podcast was really interesting re why people vote for Trump. Scarramucci really knows his stuff as does CK. I think it's going to be a close call.

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Oct-24 10:38:39

Had a good look around CNN - too close to call.
Trump busy as usual with lies. I think there is going to be a lot of trouble round the election process itself.

Galaxy Fri 18-Oct-24 10:07:42

I think he might win. The Democrats seem quite anxious to me. I thought trump looked beaten a few weeks ago but I dont think thats the case now.

David49 Fri 18-Oct-24 09:53:33

It’s clearly going to be very close if anything Harris is loosing votes, from what I can gather it’s because voters in the swing states are not comfortable with the way her home state California is run.

Aveline Thu 17-Oct-24 18:44:14

Trump is an abomination. How he's the best Republicans can come up with is astounding and speaks volumes for the collective IQ of American voters.

NotSpaghetti Thu 17-Oct-24 18:43:38

I see I'm late to the party!
Apologies!
Was just very cross.
I see this has already been said!

NotSpaghetti Thu 17-Oct-24 18:40:06

Cavery

Rig the election?
I guess maybe you haven't heard of Biden-Harris suing Virginia, it's own citizens by the way, for not allowing non U.S. citizens to vote, which they cannot but present administration doesn't care about that. Guess you also heard about Governor Newsom in California issuing a state law for counties not to ask for I.D. This was the whole plan with the open border here, which I might add is also against the law but present administration refuses to enforce the law. All for votes they allowed a takeover.

You are wrong.

The National Voter Registration act says states cannot remove voters from registration lists within 90 days of a federal election because this is long enough to prevent voters from being disenfranchised by being removed in error. The 90 days is known as the "Quiet Period".

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, signed an executive order that led Virginia to violate the quiet period by doing list maintenance "as recently as late September," the Justice Department alleged. The department has also sued Alabama for violating the NVRA in recent weeks.

The Justice Department is simply enforcing a deadline for voter roll maintenance that election officials have followed for about 30 years.

And Alabama too - not just Virginia.

It seems to me that Trump supporters are the ones trying to rig things!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Oct-24 18:29:30

Just seen this, sums up the situation.

HousePlantQueen Thu 17-Oct-24 17:34:27

Trump is mentally ill, possible dementia. This, in addition to his convictions, history of sexual abuse, multiple bankruptcies, and my own "favourite"; mocking a disabled reporter, his lies, vicious name calling.........which of these admirable characteristics make you think Trump is a better person for president than Harris, Friedgreentomatoes?. Oh, and his admiration for Putin and Netanyahu.

foxie48 Thu 17-Oct-24 17:04:18

In what way is Harris a danger to her country and the Western World FGT? I can understand why Trump (narcissist, isolationist, friend of dictators, liar, misogynist and convicted felon) would be seen as a danger but Harris? I think we need some meat of that particular bone!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 17-Oct-24 15:45:55

Well I really, really hope Kamala gets trounced at the election. She is an absolute danger to the American people and, possibly, the western world. You really need to hate Trump in order to vote for this turnip. Trump has already been President and the sky didn’t fall down. This “vibe” presidential candidate is laughably out of her depth.

David49 Thu 17-Oct-24 10:35:35

Having just returned from the US my parting message was
“I hope you get a decisive result” if they don’t there will be trouble for sure, currently it’s too close to call.

They all wait for the election, we all wait for the budget.

Wyllow3 Thu 17-Oct-24 10:11:00

It's a parody of democracy. Elon Musk has recently donated another 75 million pounds to the Trump campaign. Elections bought and sold.

CNN reports that Trump is avoiding press interviews and any debates: no doubt under advice he doesn't come off well in them. Harris continues, facing a stiff Fox News interview.

Meanwhile Trump supporters (no doubt well paid) continue to try and "clean" up voter rolls

www.cnn.com/2024/07/29/politics/voter-rolls-ballot-challenges-true-the-vote-elections/index.html

"N

Police officers in Texas, senior citizens at a nursing home in Pennsylvania and people who had registered to vote at a Marine base in California.

They are among the thousands of voters whose right to cast a ballot has been needlessly challenged ahead of this November’s election by activists — many of whom have been inspired by conspiracy theories — seeking to prevent voter fraud.

“My simple right as a voter is being attacked,” said Daniel Moss, a university administrator from Denton County, Texas, whose registration was challenged by one of the activists even though he has lived in the county and voted there for about two decades. “It’s kind of un-American to do that.”

Election officials across the country have been inundated with dubious complaints about inaccurate voter rolls, which have wasted government resources and sapped taxpayer money spent reviewing lists of registered voters that officials say are already carefully maintained, a CNN investigation has found."

Whitewavemark2 Thu 17-Oct-24 10:04:52

I dread to think what will happen if he does win.

MayBee70 Thu 17-Oct-24 09:35:40

He is now odds on to win. Even after his comments about IVF sad. Up until yesterday they were neck and neck. And if Harris wins narrowly I dread to think what will happen. Civil war?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Oct-24 09:30:37

petra I also think Trump might win.

His propaganda machine is in full swing against Kamala Harris.
