Lidia Thorpe shouted about the odds for Aboriginal peoples, for the moment. Apparently, she has cultivated an attention seeking habit of all things Australian over the years. Silly woman. Me, me, me look at me!

*I don’t believe any of our English politicians would have a meltdown in public like this, especially can’t imagine them raging at a Monarch or a Cancer sufferer*

OOpsidia - this post really sounds like an Edwardian or Victorian approach by the white empire builder about a stroppy native. It suggests only the stiff upper lip of the English will ensure the proper people are in charge (not British I see from your post)

I cannot imagine any of the English politicians screaming at our own Monarch and especially not at a visiting Monarch.

That is my thought and I am entitled to it. I can assure you I am neither Victorian or Edwardian or racist, but I would always be respectful to a Monarch and I'd always be kind to someone known to be suffering from Cancer.

I disagree with screaming and shouting. I don't think it solves anything and is extremely unpleasant. If that happened in a normal work place we would consider that person extremely unprofessional. There is a professional code of conduct in all professions and it doesn't include that kind of behaviour.

I hope the lady learns to conduct herself in a more effective way so her concerns will be dealt with.

When someone is going through cancer, there are often treatments which make them feel worse than the cancer itself, and which in kiling the cancer can damage other parts.

Anyone brave enough to travel halfway around the world in the course of their job while undergoing cancer treatment deserves some form of understanding and kindness, even if you don't like them and hated their ancestors.

Another Aborigine protester has been making a fool of himself, and this one has been arrested apparently as he refused to move on.

I understand that not everyone is a monarchist, and within reason has a right to protest, but I just feel sorry for Charles who has undertaken this arduous tour in the middle of cancer treatment, and is being faced with all this ‘not my king’ nonsense.

I think the title of this thread is offensive and belittling. She's actually 51 and been an activist and politician speaking up for her peoples for years.

I completely agree, very disrespectful

Maybe the King has shown his true colours when asking about the colour of Megan's baby. As far as I'm concerned the King has billions, yet persuaded the government to force the tax payer to pay for the coronation. The royal family hide their income, the gifts they receive and the whole world now knows about it. A lot of this information is not given priority because the Royal Family photos sell newspapers and as Megan pointed out, we in the UK only see some of the story because the press is afraid that these privileges of access may be withdrawn.
from their particular newspaper.

She is a hard Left woman who used to be in the Green Party. She swore allegiance to the King when she was made a Senator.

How did she even get so close to the Royals?

Precisely. Swearing allegiance and then doing this.

Hypocritical.

She’s not well thought of by many in Australia.

David49 Tue 22-Oct-24 08:06:16

I’m sure Charles and Camilla will breathe a sigh of relief when the leave. Charles is not King of Australia he is head of state, purely ceremonial. It’s likely to be the last visit they make down under.
When they have an elected head of state it won’t one iota of difference to Aborigines, or any other Aussies, there is a large slice of humbug about the treatment of Aboriginals they throw them a few crumbs and hope the go away.

Well said and exactly Oldfrill
Anniebach it’s obvious what she was hoping to achieve some publicity, make some people think, learn, understand , some knowledge, some difference So many people are quite ignorant of the cruel and criminal treatment of the First Nation people that has happened over the years.
I think Charles will understand and probably agree

While we can be empathetic to the plight of the Aboriginal people, I still don't think "teenage tantrums" by an adult who should know better are appropriate. Anything legal needs to go down a legal route, in order to change. Any discussion for change needs to be two sided and respectful on both sides.

Its shocking that this lady was allowed to be a Senator, when she has no control over her emotions or behaviour. I would have thought that whatever her origins are, there would be certain behavioural standards expected. I don't believe any of our English politicians would have a meltdown in public like this, especially can't imagine them raging at a Monarch or a Cancer sufferer.

This is like reading a criticism of the Suffragettes in their time.
If they'd stuck to the legal route women may well have remained disenfranchised.

Anniebach Tue 22-Oct-24 01:49:11

Why did she do it, what did she hope to gain ?

^The aboriginal people have been treated atrociously and I can imagine the anger and distrust and sadness they feel^

I don't think they all agree with her by any means.

I wouldn't except all to agree - and it doesn't matter she is part European.
What Bluebelle said.

Allira Mon 21-Oct-24 22:55:21

Of course people know and her own mother is a Green Party member and activist but acts in a much more dignified way than her daughter.

00opsidia Mon 21-Oct-24 22:44:14

I don't believe people are so ignorant that they didn't already know of the plight of the Aboriginal people. It's well documented and well known what happened.

Feeling anger, distrust and sadness is natural, but still doesn't excuse raging at a Monarch and a Cancer Sufferer about something they didn't cause.

She looks about as aboriginal as Dame Edna....
what a nasty truly unkind comment Friedgreentomatoes gosh

I think Charles will understand and probably has a clear view

I so agree with Aldom and Wyllow and others i think some people just don’t know how bad it was for the real people of the nation how the children were taken away from their families the killing the taking of their homes their burial grounds ,it s horrific
She’s made people look up, takes a lot of courage

Thanks for the link Wyllow. It's a heart breaking and shameful state of affairs.

Perhaps listen to some Australians, including those of Aboriginal heritage?

Allira Mon 21-Oct-24 22:13:42

She has Irish & English heritage too.
She is only part Aboriginal, which might explain why she feels she needs to be so such more extreme than those who have no settler heritage?

If she wants anyone who is not a direct descendant of the people who arrived in Australia first to Foxtrot Oscar, does that include her father?
Where does that leave her as she is part European?

This Senator does her cause more harm than good by this kind of teenage behaviour. She’s not even factually correct as neither the late Queen nor the King are ‘colonisers’ - Australia retained them as Head of State - a purely ceremonial role - because they wanted to. Stupid is, as stupid does.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 21-Oct-24 21:08:38

No one in Australia was really surprised. She has form apparently.

She is entitled to protest as are those who disagree with her.

Absolutely 👏👏👏

Another Absolutely. Indigenous people in Commonwealth countries are entitled to express their views. The king seems capable of reflection and seems to have a genuine interest in our countries history. I bet he took this in his stride.

I bet he did too.
Probably not fussed if Oz decided to cut loose.
It’s their call.

That said, how representative is this woman of the views of the population there? She lost her credibility somewhat with me when she told the King to Foxtrot Oscar.

Some people have no decorum 🤦‍♀️
