The identity of the driver was not important; the fact that he was dangerously out of control and a threat to the life of others was.
The police officer made his decision to shoot based on the fact that Kaba's action in ramming the cars could have killed one or more of the police at the scene. If he had managed to ram the police cars aside he would have been driving very dangerously in an attempt to escape and likely to have crashed into other vehicles and/or people. He was a severe risk to the lives of others.

Kaba
(146 Posts)Today's Telegraph reveals a good deal of background information about Kaba as a violent offender involved in drugs and shootings. It's not surprising he tried to ram his way out of the police stop and that the officer who shot him feared for the lives of others. The officer in my opinion should never have been prosecuted and in my opinion the prosecution was to deflect complaints from the Met and the CPS. The Government should investigate the CPS's decisions in this case and the media should pay no attention to Kaba's supporters.
This poor police firearms officer. Over the months his mental health must have been affected and yet his nightmare isn’t over yet. Further inquiry more than likely plus the worry of he and his family being targeted by gang members. Imagine waking up in a morning knowing there’s a bounty on your head. In-bluddy-believable. London is becoming out of control. Criminals rule, aided and abetted by their low life family members.
I feel for that poor police officer who is now in fear of retribution from Kabas gang members. We really need to get on top of these lawless gangs who seem to operate with impunity.
Doesnt matter if this criminal was white, black or polka dotted he was a nasty piece of work who had to be stopped from killing more people! The officer should never have been named & prosecuted! Sadly some people will not be happy until he is possibly killed too. As he is named he is not safe is he poor man?
What does this do to the morale of police officers when in the course of their duty they can end up being on a charge. The criminal becomes the victim according to the CPS.
I think less officers will accept fire arms training and who could blame them.
Prosecution of police officers is as bad as Prosecution of army veterans over incidents during the troubles in Northern Ireland. Not warranted under any circumstances. The government are only doing it to appease the families of known gangsters or terrorists
Well they obviously kept MP Diane Abbot out of the loop with that information, she must regret saying he was shot by the police “while going about his daily business”. oh really!
I feel the utmost compassion for his poor Mother and wider family. But the policeman did his job - what he was trained to do when confronted with a known violent criminal resisting arrest.
Bluebell...He was armed with a 2 1/2 ton car with which he was attempting to ram his way out of the police blockage. The police were in his way and he didn't care. Their lives were in certain danger. The car had been identified as having been used in gun crime. In that knowledge the police would have been completely right to assume he was dangerous and armed with a gun. He was killed because he was violently threatening and endangering the lives of people who patrol our streets to keep us safe. He could at any time, put his hands above his head and surrendered. He didn't.

Bluebelle he was on CCTV a few days before shooting an opposing gang member on a crowded dance floor.
His car was boxed in by police cars (marked and unmarked) after a chase, yet he continued to ram them. This is not the action of a rational citizen.
The police officer had no idea if he was armed or not. The officer had a split second to decide, well done that officer.
I will not waste any emotions on a known criminal with a record as long as my arm.

Bluebelle take heart my OH is ex insp. He refused firearms as he knew his own capabilities, his views are similar to yours.
The fact that the media petitioned the courts to release the police officer’s name was totally inappropriate in my opinion, he know has a price on his head by these gangsters. The court shouldn’t have relented once they continued with the trial
This poor policeman and his family have had two years of the prosecution hanging over their heads and now the vile gang have placed a ten thousand pounds bounty on him. Initially Kaba was described as a talented musician who wanted to be an architect who would now not see his new baby daughter born. Now he is known to be a gangster just about to be charged for attempted murder and part of a vicious gang. There was a restraining order on him to prevent him contacting the woman pregnant with his child or seeing the baby . Still today the MP for Croydon started his comment with huge sympathy for Kaba's family..not a word of sympathy for the horrendous situation the policeman's family have endured and are now in. I am surprised that any police person would want to be armed in this country. Something needs to change.

Don't forget Khan grovelling sermon to the family. This man should hang his head in shame. Under his watch thugs like Kaba have risen in numbers . He should be supporting the police who have to deal with this criminal fraternity every day of their working lives. Glad to know whose side Khan is on. Not the side of law and order.
I still can't understand why the policeman's name was released. He didnt have to been seen in court, but releasing the name did the damage.
BlueBelle
Why didn’t they shoot the tyres out, the car wouldn’t move then The man may be a terrible criminal but he wasn’t armed on this occasion and was shot point blank in the head !!!We don’t even have the death penalty in this country so just shoot dreadful criminals instead
I could have understood if he had been armed they knew he wasn’t and you could see his arms and hands were free of any weapons
I don't see how they could have been sure that there were no weapons within reach in the car, particularly as they knew that he was a known shooter. Also the point has been raised that the car itself was a lethal weapon as it was being driven repeatedly at cars in the roadblock.

Yes, all that rubbish about Kaba and his ambitions and about him not seeing his new baby. In reality he was a gang member awaiting prosecution and there was a restraining order to keep him away from his ex-girlfriend.
I'm really appalled that the policeman's name has been released. He and his family are clearly at great risk from now on.
It ironical that the truth and details about Kaba' criminal past (and restraining order etc) were only able to be released after the trial.
Had they been immediately available after the shooting there might not have been the same levels of response.
When are the riots going to happen?
It is wrong on so many levels that the police officer's details were released. I hope that he and his family will be relocated asap.

Certainly was wrong. What on earth was the purpose of doing that? Seems dangerous and clearly puts the officer and family at risk. Madness
Whst is so awful is that a bounty had been put on the head of the policeman who shot kaba, he will now have to live in fear . If I was armed response I would hand my gun in as they are not protected
The judge has much to answer for in allowing the police officer's name to be released - was he inacapable of envisaging what the outcome might be?

This.
And in my opinion the judge who decided this was remotely acceptable should face an inquiry to ask why he did this.
Also ,
Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbot and Black Lives Matter have been urged to apologise after criticising the police over the shooting of violent gangster Chris Kaba.
The liberal Left has been accused of treating Kaba as an innocent victim of police violence despite his extensive criminal past.

It may have influenced the jury in a case which was bound to cause tensions in some communities.
Of course, had the case never been brought, the details could have been released and probably none of this would have happened.
