Who knows?? Let’s wait until after the budget and give these guys a fighting chance to put in place their pledges and policies. The wheels of government turn very slowly, as I know only too well having spent the last 14 years of my working life as a CS!
There’s no sense in this government. Starmer will continue in his bubble. He has an overwhelming majority so he can do what he likes. I am a bit put out that there are calls to limit meat and dairy consumption by 50 per cent to cut down on methane emissions. There’s no point even thinking about Reeves, Rayner and Lammy. We need to preserve what’s left of our mental health!
Am not at all certain that he wanted AR anyway, but she’s the darling of the far left and the unions so that’s why she’s where she is. Hard to predict at this early stage if there will be a new Chancellor in the next five years.
I also think KS is ruthless - anyone leading a country has to be. But the reception the media and their followers have given this government means that people will moan and grot whatever he does, so he has no reason to care about public opinion. I don't suppose that drives him as much as it may have done others. He's a few months into a 5 year term, so it doesn't matter if he's unpopular.
Sir Keir's ratings have nosedived so badly since the election that I wonder which moves he might be planning for his first Cabinet re-shuffle. He strikes me as having an underlying ruthless streak and won't hesitate to jettison certain unpopular "comrades" in order to shore up his own position. Whenever I see a media photo of Keir, Angela and Rachel grinning idiotically at each other I just have to think "I bet two of you will have got your P45's by next year......"
