Will Messrs Reeves and Raynor Still Be Around This Time Next Year?

Sir Keir's ratings have nosedived so badly since the election that I wonder which moves he might be planning for his first Cabinet re-shuffle.
He strikes me as having an underlying ruthless streak and won't hesitate to jettison certain unpopular "comrades" in order to shore up his own position.
Whenever I see a media photo of Keir, Angela and Rachel grinning idiotically at each other I just have to think "I bet two of you will have got your P45's by next year......"

It’s Rayner.
I think KS will ditch Lammy soon. If he’s any sense.

Doodledog Sun 27-Oct-24 09:04:31

I also think KS is ruthless - anyone leading a country has to be. But the reception the media and their followers have given this government means that people will moan and grot whatever he does, so he has no reason to care about public opinion. I don't suppose that drives him as much as it may have done others. He's a few months into a 5 year term, so it doesn't matter if he's unpopular.

Am not at all certain that he wanted AR anyway, but she’s the darling of the far left and the unions so that’s why she’s where she is.
Hard to predict at this early stage if there will be a new Chancellor in the next five years.

There’s no sense in this government. Starmer will continue in his bubble. He has an overwhelming majority so he can do what he likes.
I am a bit put out that there are calls to limit meat and dairy consumption by 50 per cent to cut down on methane emissions.
There’s no point even thinking about Reeves, Rayner and Lammy. We need to preserve what’s left of our mental health!

Who knows?? Let’s wait until after the budget and give these guys a fighting chance to put in place their pledges and policies. The wheels of government turn very slowly, as I know only too well having spent the last 14 years of my working life as a CS!

Anniebach Sun 27-Oct-24 09:12:22

Angela Rayner was elected by part members and unions

MissAdventure Sun 27-Oct-24 09:26:30

A more important consideration is whether some of us will be around next year.

Patsy70 Sun 27-Oct-24 09:37:44

Hopefully not!

Sorry, MissAdventure, that was in answer to mae13, not you. 😊

This, more or less.

Curious tho - why do we get no O/P's on opposition politicians/policies? Its easy enough to criticise instead of saying, "this is what we should be doing instead"

Do they both identify as male now? I thought Messrs was the pleural form of Mr but I am probably wrong, as usual.

karmalady Sun 27-Oct-24 09:44:31

Raynor and Lammy, Reeves is all smoke and mirrors, she may well replace flip flop kier when X finally releases the information

Mollygo Sun 27-Oct-24 09:48:42

He’s happy in his bubble that a 5 year term gives him.
He’s trying to make up for not knowing what a woman is, by having females in prominent roles (good idea).
Leaks have already been pouring out about all but a few items in the budget (evidently normal practice).
He has a strong defence group for anything he or his party does.

According to my sources, that may be another leak put out to assess public opinion. It’s evidently not going to apply to the subsidised meals in the HoC.

It would make sense though. Destroying consumption will damage the farming industry, but so what?
We can also vaunt our green credentials by pushing solar power which is good, but uses stuff made almost completely from coal powered factories in places like China.

Trueloveways Sun 27-Oct-24 09:51:03

They’ll still be around in 10 years, hopefully, and this country will be in a much better position. I’m just thankful that the last bunch have finally been outed after 14 years.

I am pretty sure it is an anglophone corruption of Messieurs.

ronib Sun 27-Oct-24 09:58:07

Mollygo what is the point of destroying the farming industry? Why? Another woke aspiration in the name of global warming? Why not ban cars? You can cycle or walk everywhere?

You are correct. I spent years typing out bank statements and Messrs was used to address two or more males, usually in a business context. It is derived from the French ‘Messieurs’ which is the plural of Monsieur.

In French the plural abbreviation is MM.
I had a friend who took their French SatNav to the UK and it thought the M was for Monsieur. So "take the M25" became "Prenez Monsieur vingt-cinq". 😂

Am with you Trueloveways.

So is it Mesdames Rayner and Reeves then?

Soundsa bit like ladies running a brothel at the Moulin Rouge.

Jaxjacky Sun 27-Oct-24 10:37:53

That made me laugh Mamie 🤣🤣

Or perhaps more accurately it is the plural of the word used for the French adult female population.
