Sky News; good in my opinion.

I am in favour of all protests including those linked to TR and those linked to Palestine, they have to be treated the same.
They both contain dangerous people in my view but that isnt the point.

The point is that Tommy Robinson has been jailed for contempt of court for a case which goes back to 2018. Anything else is a distraction from that and all the talk about freedom of speech is playing the game he wants people to play.

There is a difference between fighting for freedom of speech and simply wanting to say something offensive/racist and not be called out for it. And of course I assume those fighting so wholeheartedly for freedom of speech will be all in favour of ceasefire protests and not bat an eye when protestors chant ‘from the river to the sea’.

Soin order to have that you have to fight for the right of the people whose speech you hate.

I agree - my point is that with that freedom of speech comes consequences, so if you preach hate and violence, you must be prepared to deal with the consequences of that. But as others have rightly pointed out, claiming that SYL is being denied his right to free speech is a spurious argument.

The Times Newspaper - hardly a lefty SM site - reported at the time:

*Tommy Robinson stokes Southport riots — from holiday in Europe
The far-right agitator is riling up his 800,000 online followers from abroad and posting images of violence linked to the EDL*

Iam
ill informed speculation caused riots
I think you'll now find the lack of correct information caused riots.
With KS fanning the flames by insisting it was the 'far right' pushing the boat out.

Do you actually believe what you write. If you do, then this is seriously worrying.

There is absolutely NO question whatsoever, and all the evidence out there for all to see, that ill informed (and very deliberately so by Yaxley-Lennon and mob) caused the riots, Despicably and dangerously so.

Wyllow3 Thu 31-Oct-24 15:21:02

There was some ill informed speculation on GN at the time, some posters actually repeating the original rumour. I have just checked back and it was deleted - after a lot of post deletions - because of its content.

A further thread, once the correct info came out, was left.

What a load of nonsense! The riots were caused by people who couldn't have cared less for the victims themselves. It was caused by people who spread false information and were just looking for an opportunity for a fight.

No, namsnanny: the riots themselves were caused by people known to be far right who passed on the original misinformation

And then followed this up by organising actual "hate" events through social media....

Even when the correct information appeared, the misinformation was repeated long beyond the point where the information was given

about the man who did the stabbing.

These SM "warriors" did not post corrections

Instead, a whole slew of very racist "attack mosques and hotels" appeared and again, repeated, as as with the way of these matters, misinformation added.

This included giving out names and addresses of individuals, "who to go and attack".

KS did the opposite of fanning the flames, he attempted to dowse them.

They dont have to, the Gov is happily pushing the pedal in that direction.
Any sensible person would draw less attention to him, not more, if they want him to disappear.

Growstuff are you an anarchist?
made me laugh🤣 no just someone who wants the country which was known for tolerance and free speech to become that again.
Not be turned into a semi communist state where by we cant speak because the laws are deliberately opaque so as to he unclear what the legal boundaries are.

Thus country has crossed the Rubicon.
MPs told they cant raise questions, Christians prosecuted for thinking, others on social media having inflated charges and sentences to make the rest of us frightened to speak out.

I do wish people could see the parties we used to vote for have changed, and none deserve our support.

Tommy Robinson's imprisonment is nothing to do with free speech, although he has weaponised it to make that argument. It's nothing to do with being Christian either.

It's about him deliberately not respecting a decision made in a court of law. He himself pleaded guilty. He knew what he was doing, to make himself into a martyr and stir up his followers.

If you respect democracy and free speech, as you claim to do, but then undermine the law of the land, you are undermining the very country you claim to defend.

I imagine those with sympathy for this miscreant agree if not wholly but partially with his odious views. And the giveaway is the oft repeated mantra that people can’t speak out anymore or there is no freedom of speech. This is utter hogwash as proved by the fact that on every forum they get to air their dubious opinions, and even have Farage and Tice sitting in the HoC to represent them.

You clearly havent grasped the actual meaning of free speach, but dont worry those who have will continue fighting to gain back and preserve it, and you will have your rights protected, even though you dont realise they are being eroded.
No one will expect you to Thank them, so you needn't actually do anything.

Invest in some new specs or perhaps a cleaning cloth.

It's like saying bleat on about democracy. It's the tool that has enabled most civil rights actions.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 31-Oct-24 12:13:53

I am a Christian. Mr Robinson doesn't speak for me.

MissInterpreted Thu 31-Oct-24 12:12:57

Those who bleat on about 'freedom of speech' never seem to grasp the concept that, along with freedom of speech comes responsibilities - and consequences. You can say whatever you like - but be prepared to face those consequences.

Galaxy Thu 31-Oct-24 12:01:29

I know women who have won court cases in order to ensure freedom of speech babs so what you think about me or anyone for discussing freedom of speech doesnt really matter.

I realise people are too invsted in protecting their own beliefs to look at things differently.

I would probably have said very similar things myself a few years ago, to anyone speaking as I do now.
But for every hostile retort, there is a chance someone else might think twice.

ADAM SMITH CONNOR, look his story up.
No doubt you didn't read his story, as only a few covered it.

Just as no main stream media newspaper covered the last round of grooming gang sentences.
Or very little attention was given to the 14 year old beaten up when the riots were playing out.
One liners on the internet if your lucky.

JaneJudge Thu 31-Oct-24 11:27:11

I've noticed these thread about TR always attract new posters and that in itself curtails free speech

Iam64 Thu 31-Oct-24 11:26:35

Namsnanny - we do not live in a communist state and where in the UK do you find Christians being persecuted?

MPs were rightly told not to raise questions about the case of the Southport murderer. Ill informed speculation caused riots. It’s essential the accused gets a fair trial as anything that could undermine that is unthinkable.

As for the rest of us being frightened to speak out - just what Trump’s shouty supporters claim.

Fleurpepper Thu 31-Oct-24 11:22:53

which is exactly what he wanted and calculated. He is so dangerous and manipulative.
