Nick lowles is unpleasant and laughable all at once. He tweeted misinformation that could have incited further trouble.
The free speech union have just made a statement in light of the information that has 'emerged' about the attacker, they are saying this may make some of the convictions unsafe (I am not talking about TR here). What I will say is they have certainly had some legal success in the past (Gender critical free speech related) so I think it may be interesting to watch.

But this is a distraction from Tommy Robinson, whose case is nothing to do with free speech, unless you think it's OK to go around libelling people to stir up hatred.

There are a lot of if's and buts.

As I said above if TR is the only person people can find to object to I shall sleep perfectly fine tonight and any other night.

It's the real terrorists that people should concentrate on.

Why anyone thinks otherwise is an anathema to me.

Perhaps namsnanny would care to say which information in the as I said extremely well referenced article in wiki are false/in doubt before writing it off?

You blame the media but dont tell us what sources of information you are using?

That's a very good article Casdon as it directly quotes tweets not "alleges"

However I did bother to check out the Nick Lowles tweet matter, you are right to say he tweeted there had been an acid attack on a muslim woman at the height of the riots in Middlesborough. He did not accuse any individual and he did withdraw the tweet as soon as police confirmed. My opinion is that it was irresponsible but doesn't break the law.

In terms of what should result in prosecution, this is what was happening that night:

"“A mob in Middlesbrough shouted “smash the P---s” and “there ain’t no black in the Union Jack” while targeting the homes of migrants
"Cleveland Police officers arrested 43 individuals in total in connection with the incidents and a spokesman said a full investigation was underway."

I fail to see how some who rely on newspapers and wiki (which has long been castigated as at least a source of mis information) can talk so objectively about anything.

Believing in Free speech has been explained over and over but many only want to hear their own beliefs enshrined and echoed back to them.

We are currently being asked for calm and not to speculate about a true terrorist Axel Rudakubana.

I shall speculate to my hearts content.

What has this got to do with a case which originated in 2021?

im elbow deep in glue casdon but a quick glance and there was no quote of his, just hnh and others saying he did or said this or that.
hnh have a well known history of lying or twisting the facts.
as i pointed out earlier nick lowels said a quite disturbing and disgusting thing, yet you still need to focus on tb.
critical thinking fwarrents more evidence than he said she said by a group paid to spread hate about tr.

swarzanegger I'll be back! poor spelling sorry.

sorry for the finger typing haha

I'd stop multi-tasking if I were you!

There are no "ifs" and "buts" in this case. TR broke the law, causing another person to suffer materially. He then continued with his behaviour and has been prosecuted for it.

Maybe you'd rather we live in a society ruled by bully boys with loud mouths!

This is not about free speech, which is a red herring in this case. It goes back to 2021, when he falsely accused a young Syrian refugee, who subsequently was abused. TR made a film, which he continued to show and he has admitted contempt of court. He has metaphorically put up two fingers to the law of the UK.

TR knew exactly what he was doing and has used the case to provoke a reaction to promote his "two tier" agenda. He is no victim in all this.

Agree that he is a politically inconvenient figure for the govt but he should not be locked up..He was not allowed to give his defence

What are you going on about? He pleaded guilty. Moreover, this case wasn't the one about not revealing his PIN number.

MissInterpreted Tue 29-Oct-24 19:58:48

If you think that SYL deals in 'facts', then you're being taken for a fool, like the rest of his flock of followers.

Casdon Tue 29-Oct-24 19:57:34

Here’s one version of his involvement Namsnanny, there are many reports. He was in contempt of court.

What point of view?

take a second to share please?

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 19:50:05

To unify the populous behind a point of view.

Sorry by all means ask more of me, but I may be a bit slow to answer, as I am on a Halloween dead line grin

Iam64 Tue 29-Oct-24 19:45:51

What agenda do you say ‘the media’ have Namsnanny.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 19:31:27

I'm in the middle of a very taxing Halloween project :-) so may be I'm not paying enough attention Casdon.

Where did you find the info of TR inciting rioting?

I'm not a follower of his so I'm not so up to date as some, so I could have missed it.

But he didn't get prosecuted for a hate crime or anything on Xtwitter did he?

It just seems to me that everyone seems content to be told where they are to place their condemnation and encouraged to ignore the problem right in front of them.

I blame the media they have an agenda.

Casdon Tue 29-Oct-24 19:11:18

I didn’t know people were restricted to only finding one person abhorrent Namsnanny? It’s quite possible to feel like that about Tommy Robinson inciting people to riot, and also about other terrorists of whatever background you know.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 19:04:55

Wyllow3 Tue 29-Oct-24 19:00:06

I'd advise people to read the wiki article and make their own minds up as regards the Tommy Robinson one. It's extremely well referenced.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 18:45:13

How many crimes in this country have RW terrorists committed in the last 10 years?

How many are on the 45.000 terror watch list?

I prefer to look at the facts, and not be led by nose.

If the only one that people can come up with is TR then I for one will sleep well in my bed.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Oct-24 18:36:07

Oh and let's not forget Nick Lowels disgusting tweet about throwing acid over Muslim women.
He didn't wait for the accusation to be verified.

He said sorry in another tweet, no jail time for him, that's all right then.
His and Josh Fenton-Glynn Labour MP (who re tweeted it) free speech is up held.

How can anyone deny free speech is being eroded when people can be prosecuted for a thought, as in the case of Adam Smith-Connor let alone a word?

MissInterpreted Tue 29-Oct-24 18:21:07

Really? I thought he went on holiday to Cyprus with his family, and the police wanted his phone pin.As a journalist he didn't want to betray the confidence of a news source.Personal I think the bbc journalist who interviewed the Vietnamese people trafficker smuggler should reveal who the Person is., to the intelligence border force/MI 5 and 6..

Absolute hogwash - SYL is as much a journalist as I am the Pope!

Oreo I like the name Tommy

The real Tommy Robinson, from whom Yaxley took his name, was a prominent member of the Luton Town MIGs, a football hooligan crew which follows Luton Town FC.[10]

The pseudonym successfully hid his identity and criminal history until the connection was uncovered in July 2010 by Searchlight magazine.[11][12] He has also used the names Andrew McMaster, Paul Harris,[13] Wayne King,[14][15] and Stephen Lennon.[13]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Robinson

'Tommy Atkins', on the other hand has been used as a generic name for a private in the British Army since at least the 18th C.

Our Tommy R chose the name of a football hooligan for his alias, not a British soldier... Seems appropriate...
