Rookie mistake Kemi. Being interviewed by LK. Started off by saying she thinks partygate was overblown and penalties shouldn’t have been issued. Am afraid public opinion does not reflect this, was much made at the time of the queen having to attend her DHs funeral and sit alone.
Not to mention how others had to miss funerals or even being at a loved one’s bedside when they died.
Not a great thing to say when starting off her leadership.

My bet on the leader for the next election is Penny Mordaunt, I think she will come back via a by-election and the political middle ground will become the battleground again. I feel sorry for Sunak, because I think if he had been leader at a different time he would have done much better, the legacy of the previous leaders was too big a mountain for anybody. My guess is that he will leave parliament altogether.

There’s a rumour going around that two Whips demanded Sunak call the election when he did. If true, the Whips could do with a major shake up too.
If Sunak couldn’t see off two Whips, he might not be in the right job?

I really don't think they wanted Jenrick as he would have stayed the course and still be in place for the next election. Hence, they selected Kemi who will not stay the course and then they can install who they really wanted but not yet 'in there'.

I don’t think it really matters who leads the Tory party at the moment - it’s just a holding position. The Tories change their leaders to suit the political landscape.

They’ll install someone they consider ‘more electable’ nearer the next election. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sunak back again.

Her first challenge is to identify a competent shadow cabinet who will be prepared to support her. She needs some experienced shadow ministers, and the pool is not large as some have already bowed out.

And even if she had declared what she would do, we have just seen how easily a declaration can change once you’re in power.

I’m going to watch to see if you get hauled over the coals for making vague references instead of naming those you’re accusing.

Its not about "black versus white" or"men against women" on an "either/or" spectrum.

but more about acceptance and valuing difference - and ensuring representation and respect.

Just look at the nature of some of the threats aimed at women MP's - rape and violence is not uncommon, and racist threats too.

She’s dreadful.

So sick of the black v white - just get on with the job. Butler is a nasty piece of work with a chip on both shoulders.

The Tories promote on merit, which is why they have had four female leaders and people from different races in senior government roles over the years.

Labour promotes on what they call diversity, which is why they have a black foreign secretary (Lammy) and a female chancellor (Reeves), both of whom are clearly not up to their jobs.

Don't care if she is a she, or black.

She is just not up to the job- and is the final nail in the Tory coffin for a very long time. Who will benefit- Lib Dems, or Reform. I know what I hope for.
