Oh dear the crazy Americans seem to of voted in his favour yet again . A former president now with a criminal background . Could be reelected 50% to Kamala’s 49%
Not quite there yet, however . Get ready for yet more of his manic speeches
Cannot wait for his bat crazy eating garbage orange faced triumphant speech , he’s expected on stage very soon .

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:56:41

Exactly, 8 years ago. Demographics have changed, young people have realised how nonsensical it was to not vote, and the figures are clear re the massive damage. With the vast majority now clearly saying that Brexit has been very damaging, democracy requires for those majority opinions to be respected, and without lies or outside interference.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:55:58

I expect this is your chosen hobby horse Fleurpepper but I couldn’t care less and nothing has changed for me in the last eight years.

Cossy Wed 06-Nov-24 18:55:27

Oreo

If we hadn’t left the EU the ones who voted may have felt it wasn’t their country, see how illogical that is?

It’s not illogical at all!

I feel this country changed forever when the Brexit vote was won on the back of lies, covert racism and misinformation.

I’m simply not proud to be British when I hear how some of my fellow Brits speak about those of different nationalities and somehow believe being white British makes them somehow superior.

People who describe fellow humans as “illegals”, who make assumptions about people’s criminal intent and tar whole cohorts as the same, ie All Moslems are ISIS, etc etc. Shameful!

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:54:04

Thinking is one thing - but the FACTS are facts. Brexit has caused massive damage to the country, and this has been proven beyond any doubt.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:53:48

In any case that ship sailed eight years ago.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:52:34

I don’t have to accept anything of the kind Fleurpepper
It wasn’t my choice to leave the EU but I accept that more people voted to leave than to stay.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:50:55

I guess it’s human nature to be aggrieved and think the other side is wrong with anything like an election.

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:49:49

not illogical at all- just shows how very divided the country was, and how many lies were told.

If you believe in democracy, you have to accept that the vast majority now believe that Brexit was a big mistake.

Because it is a different country. A mean spirited, grabby, greedy , racist place. Full of narrow minded bigots.

No resemblance to what we once had and valued.

When was that, 1524?

*It’s fine to feel disappointed about the result of any democratic election but not to feel it isn’t ‘your country*

Oreo that’s your opinion, but that is how I felt after the Brexit referendum, and still do feel to a certain extent.

Please don’t tell me that my feelings ‘aren’t fine’.

Perhaps instead of saying not fine I should have said not logical.

Hiraeth Wed 06-Nov-24 18:45:08

Why do you think more migrantts are taking their jobs ?

@lizzie I felt like a woman without a country after Brexit, after seeing how anger and hostility/hatred against immigrants/foreigners was stoked for the sake winning a referendum. It wasn’t the country I had felt previously proud of and like you I still feel that way to sone extent.
Others can call me out for that but it is the way I feel. And am sure many Americans feel that way too.

I too feel that the country I used to know has gone Our feelings are as worthy as anyone else's!

Me too sad

Trump had a high number of votes from Catholic Latinos due to their not believing in abortions and they are the people Trump is going to deport first ! How stupid of them !

Those that voted are already citizens, once migrants are settled they don’t want more migrants taking their jobs.

Allira - yes, it was I who objected to the phrase. I still do. I understand that others are happy with this level of debate find it necessary to refer to me as the " thread police ".

Hardly “debate” 😂😂😂😂

This clip is just terrifying- how will this 'purge' take place. Here is a link to his rally speech in Pennsylvania where he says there will be a truly nast purge.

The USA is heavily reliant on cheap immigrant labour, in so so many sectors.

They are indeed, that’s the irony. They always have been! When we lived in California back in the mid 70’s almost all domestic staff, care workers, Road sweepers etc were either Latino or Mexican.

Thank you Babs.

I was always proud to be a UK citizen but the lies and hatred engendered by Brexit, in my fellow citizens, has made me feel ‘estranged’ from many of them. It ‘flicked a switch’ in me that has made me view my country differently. That’s how I feel.

People can have their own views but they have no right to say my feelings are not OK.

This is exactly how I feel too 🌻

Fleuerpepper UK is part of Europe but not in the EU !

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:30:37

The words he used in that speech are truly disturbing- and a clear reminder of speeches in 1932/33.

jasper16 Wed 06-Nov-24 18:29:24

I think some here are in favour or a purge.

Babs03 Wed 06-Nov-24 18:20:14

The US is populated by immigrants, most having only arrived within the past century or two, Trump’s own mother went over to the US on a boat from Scotland.
The only true Americans are the indigenous people - native Americans - who suffered a terrible genocide at the hands of the settlers.

So much hand wringing and angst when it will all be forgotten by the weekend 🤷‍♀️

what an über bizarre comment- by the weekend we will only begin to understand how disastrous this will be- for Americans- but for Europe, Ukraine, and the UK, which is no longer in Europe but with few allies and very very far away.

As a betting person myself I don’t know how you could happily make money out of Trump winning; something that is going to do no good for anyone except Trump himself. So I hope for your sake and the sake of your conscience you’re right sad
