Watch this space reference The Chagos Islands. I understood that Mauritius are to be given autonomy over these Islands with the consent of the people of these Islands. Apparently, this is not so, and it would appear that Britain has done the dirty once again, or is trying to. The indigenous people have not been consulted on any shape or form about their future. Joe Biden has allegedly agreed this outcome after securing the important American Base for 100 years. We had such a deal with China over Hong Kong for 50 years, it lasted barely 20 before China blatantly began chipping away. However fortunately, with a new President and the deal not finalised, things look a little brighter for the Chagossians GB news is championing their cause, (no wonder the left want to shut it down) which is modest, doesn't threaten the Airbase, and according to their leader, they would prefer, if they have to, to continue under British protection than be sold down the line to Mauritius, who has not treated them well. But then neither have we!!! All they really want is to be able to go home, a fairly modest want.

Just saw Farage over in America.
(194 Posts)He said he was ready to serve. So okay but doesn’t he have a job at the moment? How pleased are his constituents at the moment? How much time does he give them?
Meanwhile - has Farage actually come back to the UK yet to gt on with his job...
👍
I had a 5 day turnaround for my question on GFA. but yes, your new MP does need to get her office support sorted asap. Mine isnt new so she has both paid and volunteer case workers pretty well sorted.
Be fair, LovelyLady it's an extremely emotive issue for his constituents and one of those which divides people very greatly.
I'd not expect him - new, old, young, mature - to give a rapid response to your query - and I'm not sure either, that a public town hall meeting is appropriate for this painfully personal and wrought issue. Because it not just a yes/no, it's all also in the details.

I wrote to my mp when the WFA was withdrawn and I have yet to receive an answer. I did eventually receive a response saying that an office was being set up, my mp had read the email and that someone would eventually reply. The months are ticking by and the silence is overwhelming.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with their mp?
Same thing happened to me - I wrote to my new Labour MP, only received an automated reply, sent a second email asking for an answer again only received an automated reply. Strange thing is she was on local radio telling everyone how she "listens" to her constituents and someone rang in and asked why she doesn't answer emails - she said she would check for unanswered emails immediately. 3 weeks later I have still heard nothing!
Trying to get a question answered by my Lib Dem MP is difficult. My question was to find out their opinion on the Assisted Murder/Suicide question. I’m told they, my new young LibDem MP is seeking the opinion of the constituency, and will then decide his opinion. Now this is Assisted Murder and murder is illegal. We are taught Not to Kill. Yet My new MP is choosing to think whither assisted murder ought to be a rite!!!
Remember, Thou Shall Not Kill.
Wish my MP had a system to meet his constituents like his predecessor. She’d meet people in the Town Hall. The new MP is invisible yet before he was elected he was everywhere.

Well done Nigel and you deserve a good gloat!
Trumpism is very similar to the Reform agenda which I very much hope will become mainstream in the UK.
Well.. all I can say is with those 2 … BEWARE of what you wish for…
short video "Farage is just using us" this was in august, dont imagine feelings have changed for the better since the US trips

I hope they keep him there
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 so do I …he and the egregious Trump deserve each other!

But how do constituents from all over the country not just Clacton get answers to their questions? eazybee. It’s staggeringly slow.
I doubt any of them CAN answer that question ronib. After all Labour was likely voted in for change and to help the poor and aged etc…they seem to be set on doing the opposite!

Let us hope he stays right where he is. They are welcome to him.
Ditto! 🤮

Really? That’s not what we have heard over here.
There was a whole long thread on this matter
Should we really be doing this which made clear who was going.

Can mps just bu**er off from work when it suits them then? Can we get a refund for the days he isn’t here to work? I am so fed up of four day weeks and people not doing any work but being paid. No wonder our country is going down the pan so fast.
I've just checked gov.uk rules and at the moment there are no restrictions ie number of hours laid down.
What is (supposed to be) controlled is hours spent on what are jobs that could be described as lobbying, ie direct influence on government policy discussions "cash for questions" type jobs.
Geoffrey Cox tops the list of high earners with an "outside job"millions over years. Here's an old article, but he's still at it. Qute a shaking amount, I cannot understand why he continues!

and there is the problem, lies and more lise, and people fall for them. Please check your sources. NOT A SINGLE MP WENT OVER TO USA APART FROM
FARAGE - who himself has never been seen in his Constituency to do the work he was elected to, and is being paid for.
Really? That’s not what we have heard over here.

And all those British MPs that went over to support Harris. Not a good idea and it certainly backfired on them.
This is really disingenuous, everyone knows by now not a single Brit MP went over to support Harris, it was backroom workers/support staff. The only MP who went over was Farage.

I appreciate that BevSec, but responding by saying the same thing back negates the argument, doesn’t it?
Don’t be silly! It’s only “liberal lefties” who say and do “disrespectful, stupid, unprofessional and unacceptable” things!
Oh yes, Cossy -
Silly me
My whole point is that houseplantqueen made the remark about being a poor judge of character to support NF, and I support him so obviously that makes me a poor judge of character, which in my opinion is not a comment that anyone on here should make. My comment back was meant to illuminate how unpleasant it feels to have that said about those who support KS.
But clearly you just did, when you said you thought ‘anyone who votes and supports KS is a poor judge of character’? It’s clear who you mean, so how is that not an attack? I’m not saying it bothers me if it is, just be honest about it.

Trumpism is very similar to the Reform agenda which I very much hope will become mainstream in the UK.I would say that this comment shows how little one understands the implications of a Trump win, and how poor a judge of character anyone is who thinks that Farage is anything other than a self serving grifter with no thought at all for the
mugspeople who elected him.....but I won't because you will be petty enough to report me! So.....can I just say I disagree with everything you have just posted?I think anyone who voted and supports KS is a poor judge of character but normally would keep my opinions to myself!
I don’t keep my opinions to myself, and neither do you on many subjects BevSec. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, but don’t expect people to be surprised when you say things you’ve said many times before, that’s both the joy and the downside of being a regular poster - it’s like a complex ballet of words and opinions.
I would not call anyone on here a poor judge of character because they have a different opinion, attacks like that are never justified under any circumstances.
