The Guardian offers counselling to staff after ‘upsetting’ Trump election result!

I know they can stop anything they like but they tend to be fairly good with free speech.

Why should a thread discussing an issue in the news be shut down.

Too many posts being deleted, and GN then get fed up.
And they can stop anything on GN that they choose.

May I just point out that all and any dictator I can call to mind tries and as often as not suceeds in curbing the right of free speech, both by the Press and by everyone else, singles out one or more groups of society as enemies to be, at best, imprisoned and at worse exterminated.

And to start off with, the rest of the world denies that the rumours heard of what is going on in the country concerned can possibly be anything but scare-mongering.

He is a convicted felon, known to be a stranger to the truth, and has interpreted the laws of his country to suit himself.

It shocks me that presumably sane men and women can believe that a man who breaks laws is fit for the highest office in his country.

I read a broad spectrum of print media through the Library App. including the Guardian.

The Guardian hasn’t got the monopoly on caring.

I was reading this and nodding my head until I got to the last line.
I am sick of the T inLGBT. I have had enough of men in dresses indulging their fantasies and leading vulnerable children into harming their bodies with puberty blockers followed by mutilating their sexual organs. I am not a bleeder or a birthing person.
I don’t want a man in a dress to greet me at the door of the rape crisis centre.
I don’t want my child of 7 being taught by a teacher that asks them to share pronouns, explore their genders or read books why being trans is fun.
I don’t want my daughter to be broken hearted after fighting for a place in her sport to be physically assaulted by a man in front of a baying crowd,
I don’t want to stripped of funding, awards, scholarships or medals by a man cosplaying as woman.

Just picked up this thread. What a generation of namby-pamby's we're producing and pandering to. Are they being counselled about Putin, Jong-Un and their ilk?

I know very little about American politics, and although I do not favour Trump I realize that the British press has focused almost entirely on Trump versus Harris and their war of words. There are many other elected politicians who may influence the future path of America.
At present we can only wait and observe, but I dislike the scaremongering that is being generated elsewhere by people with strong opinions but little practical experience of the situation.
We shall see.

A few points.

I didnt know what Trump said recently about journalists.
A shocking thing to say.
There are many people who are not in their right mind.
It is not beyond possibility what someone might do.

It has been an eye opener. That was a whole debate about counselling and it turns out that it's not actually about counselling.

We've had quite a few visitors from the US Mary on the long running US election thread, who needless to say have reported in very differently. However, could I recommend you read this US source? It gives a lot of examples.

I am a Brit now living in US.

I have no idea what the British public have been told about Trump but I can assure you that some of the journalists here are definitely not giving legitimate accounts of what he says or does but twist it to their particular party beliefs - as do journalists the world over. He does not condemn ALL journalists, in fact he encourages the ones that give open and fair coverage of the news, whether they agree with him or not, and not just their own take on the news.

Most of the judicial proceedings were brought against him to prevent him from running for the office of President and have, in fact, been thrown out by the States (not Trump!).

During his last 4 years Trump made the American economy affordable, there were very few illegal border crossings and definitely no wars. In America our living standards were higher because the cost of living was lower.

Since he left office everybody and their offspring have invaded the southern border and I have lost count of the number of countries that are in conflict.

It is amazing to see how his words are twisted and read into in order to convince the public that he really is bad.

It would be good to give him a chance, he only has 4 years and they certainly can't be any worse than the last 4 as far as America is concerned.

My personal opinion is, and has always been, that countries would be better run by businessmen rather than career politicians because after all what is a country but a huge business which should not always be in debt or over-run by competitors?

Yes, I voted for Trump because if the border invaders (which I know you have in Britain too) continue to receive all the goodies they have been receiving up to now and were made Citizens they would, of course, vote for the party that benefited them, thereby making any free and fair elections impossible in the future. America would have become a one ruling party country and democracy would be dead.

Good to have the views of someone living in America, who voted for Trump.

Much of what we see and hear in the UK is live debate or him actually talking, which of course could be edited.

You’re entitled to your views and beliefs, my relatives in California totally disagree with many of your comments as do our friends in New England, but each to their own.

This seems reasonable to me. A lot of people are very distressed by the result, I am, because I've followed Trump for years, feel the hatred and violence and threats that have come out from him and some of his followers, and I've appreciated being able to "talk about it".

I too feel quite alarmed at this result for many reasons, including yours above.

I do not and would never assert my views are correct or better and more valid than any one else’s, they are at times just different!

I have no need to get on my high horse (actually he is in his stable warm and cosy) over an election in a foreign country.

I think the reason for the comment 'the hard of thinking'. Is the fact that people like yourself are ignoring Lizzie Dripping who has said that this isn't just about the election. It's the death threats against journalists. I've also pointed out that a victim of rape, I am stressed abouta convicted sex offender being POTUS.

Pp.s. Those posters who say they feel offended have left this discussion which is fair enough. Others, who feel differently, continue however. That’s surely the essence of a GN debate - otherwise, why bother? Not all of us knit, sew, craft, garden, bake cakes. GN has a forum for everyone’s tastes. Mine happens to be N&P.
