The Guardian offers counselling to staff after ‘upsetting’ Trump election result!

The Guardian is offering counselling to staff as it vowed to support its workforce after Donald Trump’s “upsetting” US election victory this week.

In an email to staff, The Guardian’s editor Katharine Viner said the election had “exposed alarming fault lines on many fronts” and urged journalists based in the UK to contact colleagues in the US “to offer your support”.

I’m glad I don’t give The Guardian any of my money if they waste it to coddle employees in this way!

This is a piece that quotes a lot of the navel gazing bollocks the editor of the Guardian has issued.

The Conservative Post is going to report on the Guardian without bias though.

Read it WellsRose it’s very funny.

Of course there’d be bias but it’s still worth reading.

October 22 so not up to date with latest threats

"Trump has made more than 100 threats to prosecute or punish perceived enemies".

I shall be pleasantly surprised if Trump doesn't carry out the threats he has made but not holding my breath.

not one of these threats would be considered legal or proper if they had been made by any politician on the UK - why are people here pretending Trump is other than he is

Oreo Thu 07-Nov-24 20:13:59

Trump is all talk.
Journalists can still sleep safe in their beds, the US isn’t Iran.

"Far-Right Donald Trump Supporters Celebrate His Victory With Violent Memes and Calls for Executions

“Many many many executions are warranted,” one Trump supporter wrote on Truth Social. “These traitors are a terminal cancer that MUST BE completely eradicated to make America healthy again.”"

www.wired.com/story/donald-trump-far-right-supporters-violent-memes/

"Trump ran a campaign that stoked culture war grievances and divisions, and was defined by lies, a desire for vengeance, and, at times, threatening rhetoric. In social media posts he threatened mass arrests of his political opponents in revenge for “stealing the election” in 2020 (though evidence conclusively shows the 2020 election was not stolen).

Lawmakers, election workers, school board members, federal agents, and judges have been repeatedly targeted over the years with violent threats by his supporters who believe they were acting on his behalf.

Trump repeatedly promised his supporters he would “destroy” the deep state, invoking the popular conspiracy theory of a nefarious web of faceless bureaucrats working to destroy the US from within.

He cast himself, alongside the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6 over election lies, as “political prisoners,” even “hostages” who were being persecuted by a “tyrannical” Biden administration.

And now that he has won the election, his supporters seem just as thirsty for revenge.

A poster on Patriots.win, a pro-Trump forum, shared an AI drawing of Nancy Pelosi with a noose around her neck about to be hanged.

Others shared images of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who has been villainized by the right for overseeing the Biden administration’s immigration policy, suggesting he too be hanged “for high treason.” “FACT!” someone else posted. “The gallows await …”

“Many many many executions are warranted,” someone wrote on Truth Social. “These traitors are a terminal cancer that MUST BE completely eradicated to make America healthy again.” Another post on Truth Social read: “It sounds like a Military Court should sentence her [Kamala Harris] to death. Yes?”

Wyllow3 Thu 07-Nov-24 20:21:09

"Similar remarks were shared in response to former Trump strategist Steve Bannon’s victory remarks, broadcast live from the rooftop of the Willard Hotel in Washington DC on election night

“You stole the 2020 election, you've mocked and ridiculed and put people in prison and broken people's lives because you said this thing was stolen,” Bannon said during his broadcast.

“This entire phony thing is getting swept out. Biden’s getting swept out. Kamala Harris is getting swept out. MSNBC is getting swept out. The Justice Department’s getting swept out. The FBI’s getting swept out. You people suck, and now, you’re going to pay the price for trying to destroy this country.”

“MILITARY TRIBUNALS AWAIT!” someone replied on X. “I want to see perp walks” wrote another. “Military executions coming right up,” a different post read. “New DOJ must utilize armed raids on Democrat Deep State Homes! Drag their asses out into the street, just like they did to our people!!”

Look how the tide has washed over his last 4 years as President.

It will washover his next 4 years - and he cannot stand again. Anyone who seriously thinks he will be able to change the constitution and start a dynasty, needs to lie down in a cool dark room, until their fevered brain has recovered.

Such a lot of hot air - about nothing at all.

I can only imagine that people love some drama in their lives. Something, anything. 🤦🏼‍♀️
A fact that lots of people don’t know or choose to ignore is the fact that Obama deported more asylum seekers than Trump did.

Don’t spoil the drama junkies fun 😂

What makes my piss boil is the fact that there are only so many therapists to go round. If the Guardian is employing them to support lightweights who can’t take a bit of criticism then genuine mentally sick souls who really need help are pushed to the back of the queue once again. That’s if they were lucky enough to be in the queue 😡

It will fall on deaf ears…

Who says he has only 4 more years to go? He has the House, the Senate and the Supreme Court. He could now easily copy his pal Putin and change the law to allow him a third term.

*The support for American journalists is being offered because Trump has threatened journalists who disagree with him.*

Are you able to supply us with some evidence of this, please? I'm curious about what the threats were.

The American press is full of it. Google is indeed your friend.

Precisely. So Trump also lied about how much tougher he was about that than anyone else.

Maremia Thu 07-Nov-24 21:24:21

What's all this fuss and mocking about counselling? People in need are offerred it for all sorts of reasons, to help recover from assault, to deal with cancer in the family, bullying at work. Far better to offer counselling than to provoke a mob to riot, in my opinion.

He’ll be too old. That is why he’s desperate to create a dynasty. Supposedly the only person he listens to is his SIL.

Fleurpepper Thu 07-Nov-24 21:33:13

There are certainly many concerns about the threats he has made to all sorts of people.

Personally, as many here on GN porbably, i belong to the generation where counselling was never available, and although I am sure it can be very helpful- it has possible gone too far, with counselling being offered for so many minor issues which we are used to just 'pinch of salt and get on with it'.

However, when threats like Trump's are so violent and real - I am glad employers of groups that he has targetted in such a way, are getting optional support, if they feel the need.

The guardian staff are not at risk of assault because of trump.

Maybe they care about other people than themselves

So should they have counselling for that reason? That they care about other people? confused

Of course they are and quite rightly if they need it.
However, it's not as readily available to those in real need.

Allira Thu 07-Nov-24 22:24:07

Comment on an article about this in the New York Podt:

The Guardian covers disasters, wars, famines, crime, and other bad things. How do their staff cope if they cannot even cover an election in a free country without needing counseling?

Allira Thu 07-Nov-24 22:24:19

Post!!

WellsRose Thu 07-Nov-24 22:27:31

How are they taking counselling from others? The counselling won't be publicly funded, it will be through a private company that is in Partnership with The Guardian. Most companies provide counselling these days. It's a perk.

WellsRose Thu 07-Nov-24 22:30:04

Why has it comes too far? We understand more about mental health now and counselling is just talking through your emotions.
