Amsterdam attacks

I'm so sickened by the attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam. Shades of Nazi Germany.

A worrying and disgusting trajectory of anti Semitism in Europe.

If some Israeli football visitors pulled down any Palestinian flags which were certainly hung there to provoke them, and some Israelis shouted back at insults then who can blame them.
Blame is squarely on the Dutch Palestinian supporters who clearly arranged the attacks in the days before and attacked mob handed with knives and other weapons and handed out beatings.Lessons learned from hamas it would seem.
Added to this the police had innocently not expected much trouble!

Hamas behaved diabolically and needed to be stopped.

The IDF and some of the Israeli government have gone beyond acceptable defence and need to stop.

I am neither criticising the Islamic or Jewish faith in my criticism, but I am criticising the behaviour of the Hamas group and Israeli state.

People need to learn to distinguish between the two.

Football culture has long been recognised as being extremely tribal that will, if not stopped, spill over into violence, using both politics and social reasons to attack the opposition. This phenomenon has been going on for certainly since the 1960s.

Do not muddle football culture with anti-semitism or Islamaphobia.

Do not muddle critics of the state or political groups with antisemitism or Islamaphobia.

Mature debate should be able to distinguish between them.

Antisemitism is terrible so is Islamophobia, it has been said that antisemites hide in plain sight, well Islamophobes don’t even go to effort of hiding. As can be seen on threads about migrant crossings.

Anniebach: "how can anyone say Zionists are not Jews"

Zionists are not all Jewish, but they do support the Jewish right to a homeland. Not all Jews are Zionists, as not all Jews want a homeland.

Simple? It ought to be but tragically just makes the situation more complex.

I support my Jewish friends, but not the Israeli football thugs, who it seems, have been just as inflammatory as the Palestinian football fans.

Why is it always footie fans who act like ar#£holes?

Looking at the BBC coverage it looks to be provocation from both sides.

I suspect that it was more anti Zionist than anti semitic.

And football fans aren't known to be the ,most peaceable folk, on either side.

However, I've nothing further to say.

Pleased to hear that. A good case of victim blaming.

There hasn’t been much on our news about this but it sounds dreadful. Amsterdam, of all places, with their history in the Second World War. The anti Semitism from some posters makes me sick to my stomach. I don’t think they even realise it which is even worse.

Dreadful isn't it?

Look at any thread about the situation in the Middle East and you find the same apologists and anti Semites. Hidden in plain sight.

Iam Madalene so do i, this thread truly is shocking , how can anyone say Zionists are not Jews ?

madalene Fri 08-Nov-24 23:53:40

I find the derogatory use of ‘Zionist’ as a term of abuse, offensive and anti semitic.

So do I. So do many others. This thread is quite shocking. On the eve of Kristalnight too. How must the Jews of the world look on this?

The king of the Netherlands, the Prime Minister, Macron, and others have condemned this as antisemitism. Ten people were put into hospital. Jewish people were thrown into canals. Three people are still missing.

And all this in a European city. Protests and face coverings have now been banned in Amsterdam.

NotSpaghetti Fri 08-Nov-24 23:49:16

In the lead-up to the game, some Israeli fans chanted racist slogans against Arabs and Palestinians, according to the Times of Israel, citing footage posted on social media.

“They began attacking houses of people in Amsterdam with Palestinian flags,” Amsterdam City Council member Jazie Veldhuyzen told Al Jazeera.

Prior to the match, there was a protest against the Israeli team in which more than 50 people were arrested, Dutch police said.

From Politico (also quoting The Times of Israel)

Just home after dinner with our Jewish friends, they just shrugged their shoulders and said same old same old where are we to go?

say it is antisemitism

Definition of Zionism
‘Zionism is a political and religious movement that seeks to establish a Jewish state in Israel, the ancient homeland of the Jewish people’

Britannica - Zionism is a Jewish nationalist movement originating in Europe in the 19century with the goal of the creation and support of a national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews…. According to Judaism, Zion, on the the ancient hills of Jerusalem is the place where God dwells

I find the derogatory use of “Zionist” as a term of abuse, offensive and anti semitic.

The current situation in the Middle East is causing increasing tensions right across Europe. It's a pity that politicians didn't consider the consequences of mass immigration from different cultures.

Can you possibly clarify?

Always play the victim card despite the victims actually being the tens of thousands of Palestinians murdered and maimed by the IDF .Surely it’s plain to see the victims are the Palestinians who have been targeted with appalling treatment for decades while the Israeli government has ignored UN resolutions about their vile behaviour.I march WITH Jews who totally disagree with Israels treatment of the Palestinian people and in particular the genocide happening now .Are these Jews also antisemitic?

Do you agree with these attacks?

Why is the flag of Hamas terrorists allowed to be displayed in the West.

It was the Palestinian flag.

Hamas have their own flag and it was not there.

Amsterdam, the city where Anne Frank and her family were betrayed.

Saved and hidden by brave Dutch people but betrayed, it is believed, by another Jewish person in order to save his own family.

Babs03 Fri 08-Nov-24 21:26:56

And it is Annie, the Palestinians were shouting antisemitic insults but the Israelis were shouting Islamophobic insults back as well as attacking Palestinians and burning their flags.
However, as usual the sensitivities of the Jewish population are rated unfairly but squarely above the sensitivities of Muslims.
That is not a surprise to anyone, despite the widespread reporting of the Israeli side kicking off with footage to show this.
Is the same old same old.
And anyone who dares say this will obviously be called antisemitic, as I will probably be labelled, but just when are you or any leader of a western country ever going to admit that Muslims are victims?
Or that Islamophobia is a massive problem?
No.
I thought not.

From Virgin news -

'Footage from the stands at the Cruyff Arena shows Israeli supporters refusing to observe a minute's silence for the victims of Valencia's recent flooding before kick-off at 9pm (8pm UK). Chanting can also be heard in the background.

The person who posted the clip claimed "illegal fireworks" were also set off and that the protest was the result of Spain cancelling an arms deal with an Israeli company.'

Nice

Babs03 Fri 08-Nov-24 20:50:16

@Casdon is so transparent though. Every news outlet is reporting that Israelis were attacking and shouting islamophobic insults at Palestinians and there is also footage of Palestinians shouting antisemtic insults at Israelis.
And has been reported that Israeli fans refused a minutes silence for dead flood victims in Spain at the beginning of the match.
These are the facts as reported by so many. I suppose they could all be wrong, but seriously??

Galaxy Fri 08-Nov-24 20:50:06

Playing the victim card. What is wrong with you.

I know Babs03, but I can’t sit back and see people posting lies. It’s so easy to check and see what other channels are reporting before going off into a rant, but some people just can’t be bothered to do that, which makes me think they would rather spill bile for the sake of it.
