Amsterdam attacks

I'm so sickened by the attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam. Shades of Nazi Germany.

A worrying and disgusting trajectory of anti Semitism in Europe.

It was one of the first excuses for antisemitism

Seems Pogroms and The Holocaust of no concern

The Holocaust is often dismissed as something that happened a long time ago, even sometimes on GN Annie.
I believe it’s something that people should learn about to inform their opinions.

It used to be a massive thing, particularly in Europe, to call Jewish people Christ killers. It was even taught by priests. I know this because of my widespread reading about WW2. I don’t have any knowledge of whether it was used here in the UK as an excuse for antisemitism. I’m assuming that it isn’t used today, but I don’t know.

Justifying antisemitism because of the crucifixion of Christ is such a desperately ancient trope that I cannot believe any reasonable person in the world would use today.

Yes Paddyanne I am quite aware of atheists, I included Christs crucifixion because it has been given as an excuse for
antisemitism, and the polygamy’s and the Holocaust ?

So what's the excuse for arriving in a foreign country and chanting, "Let the IDF win to f* the Arabs" and "There are no schools in Gaza - there are no children" ( a clear reference to the number of children who have been killed in Gaza over the last year)?

You do realise Anniethat many of us don’t believe in Jesus? Or indeed in any god .We are as entitled to our opinions as you.I am Pro Palestinian simply because I KNOW people thrown off their land by Israel and the horrors of their treatment by Israeli government ..I have no issues with Jews I march with many Jews who are also against the government of Israel and who believe the treatment of Palestinians goes against their faith

And the cause of antisemitism ? the Jews , just as Jews caused polygamy's and the Holocaust and crucified Christ, who was a Jew
I don’t think those pro Palestinians mentioned by escaped cared about Jesus being Jewish but maybe others could a bit more.

And reason for the Polygamy’s and the Holocaust? Because they were Jews

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 10:52:11

I'm not sure how many would have turned out if it was an anti-king demonstration, but because the President of Israel was also there at a very heated time.

But 13, was under policed.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 10:28:29

Only 13, no surprise

It should have been policed better, certainly, only 13 people were arrested for public order offenses, vandalism, and throwing stones.

If you delve into it, there have been high levels of Antisemitism apparent in Holland recently.
When I was in Amsterdam earlier this year, we couldn't visit the new National Holocaust Museum because it wasn't opened until the March. Unlike the Resistance Museum, this one is dedicated solely to the Jews of Holland. It houses Jewish artefacts as part of the story and focuses on the persuction and murder of Jews in the Netherlands.
Anyway, more than 200 Dutch mosques audaciously petitioned King Willem-Alexander not to attend the opening. What business was it of theirs? What little respect does that show? At the opening, there were 100s of Pro-Palestinian protesters with banners and they pelted the dignitaries with raw eggs. That's total provocation on the streets of the city from one side only.

All I shall say it that it doesn’t surprise me and should have been policed better for the opening by the King.

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 09:36:58

To all - I wish there was more the authorities could do more pro-actively, hard to see what, it is devastating to find.

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 09:29:20

Rosie51

escaped that is shocking, blatant unashamed anti semitism. And still there are those that either ignore or defend it.

Jewish children not wearing their school blazers because it marks them out as Jews. Is there an equivalent situation where Muslim girls refrain from wearing a hijab because it marks them out as Muslim? Neither should be accepted.

Yes Rosie, the report I posted above from Denmark above documents attacks on Muslims because of dress/how people look, including the hijab, and incidents of being spat on and beaten.

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 09:24:29

It's been growing because of the news from Israel and Gaza/Lebanon. Its not "just happened".

There are many in the Muslim community who abhor these sort of actions, and there are many in the Jewish community who don't support the current Israeli regime.

But they get blamed - or attacked - under tar with the same brush labels where we don't hear those voices.

madalene Wed 13-Nov-24 09:17:44

That is absolutely shocking escaped and is evidence of the ongoing amount of antisemitism which is going on around the world today. I believe it has been growing since 07/10/23.

escaped Wed 13-Nov-24 09:06:21

Iam64 from my understanding of the protests organised at the museum's opening, it was a Dutch Palestinian rights group who saw it as a slap in the face for them that their King should meet with Israel's President when their "home country" was being destroyed. I believe there were some anti-Zionist Jews there too.
I don't understand why antisemitism has to be demonstrated on such an important occasion. Palestinians wouldn't get my support this way, even though I am not dismissive of their plight in Gaza.
Here's a photo at the time in Amsterdam for authentication in case of disbelief.

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 09:03:28

Totally out of order, I agree.

Events in the Middle East have a long and devastating reach into Europe and the USA.
