Should Justin Welby resign?

I may have had some respect for Welby had he fallen on his sword +metaphorically), however he released a statement saying he would not resign and was then (within hours) forced to U turn. I have no respect and no sympathy. There is MSM discussion that he may not get the usual retirement peerage 'may not get'! Unbelievable to think he could be a sitting peer in 2026.

I am a bt stunned that Justin Welby is married as he always looks so dour and dead in the eyes. I had assumed him a gay man as he seems so pro gay

What does that tell you? Have you read the comments section of the Daily Mail? I am being nicer than many there. You want to read what people really think? Go there and why not argue with them and tell them they're wrong too. That should give you something to do as one story has over 800 negative comments!

He should have considered his wife and children much, much earlier and it is quite manipulative to ask people to pray for them as if we are bad for wanting him to resign. He is over retirement age and does not need the salary. He will be ok financially^

MissAdventure why would you think that? Having depression might explain why Archbishop Welby looks dour. Although by now, anyone would be looking dour ….and probably depressed.

Having an opinion about someone's demeanor is not the same as criticising their physical looks.

Although I am extremely angry that Welby didn't act in 2013 I do feel very sorry for him. He may have made a dreadful mistake but that doesn't mean he's a dreadful person. I'm not a Christian but I do believe in forgiveness and I think Welby bitterly regrets his "lack of curiosity" and only he knows why he took that stance. I think Welby is capable of punishing himself for his mistakes, he really doesn't need any help. Welby has had an impossible job, he's been trying to hold together a diminished church in the Western world (but with an active evangelical wing) that wants to be progressive and a thriving, growing church in areas of the world that has very different aspirations, totally impossible.
fwiw I'm not condoning anything, he made a huge mistake and (eventually) has done the right thing, although I can't help but think he wanted to stay on to try to make things better. Sorry but I will always try to believe the best before the worst, it's very good for my mental health!

William Shakespeare said "the eyes are a window to the soul" and a persons demeanor can be forboding, so its not about his physical looks but about the way he comes across. I hope that's understood.

Yes I would agree to meet with Archbishop Welby - Welby hadn’t abused anyone. It’s much more personal and heartfelt to speak and probably pray together. Also it’s much harder for Welby to do this than we assume.

Archbishop Welby is committed to meeting each abused person. That’s quite a difficult task. It shows that he cares.

If you were one of the abused, would you want to meet him though? I wouldn't.

It seems too little, too late. Why would he think that meeting him would ease their torment?
