I think so.

He's just as guilty as Paula Vennells in my opinion..
To think how many times he's lectured us on issues, yet all the while covering up for a prolific pedophile, (Smyth) a sexual predator.
A supposed man of the cloth?? , his kind disgust me .

He has resigned.

It is interesting to note that Starmer was in charge of the Crown Prosecution Service at the time of the report so what exactly was his role in this?

Good riddance. By turning a blind eye, he and others like him, have allowed these vile excuses for men a place of sanctuary to continue with their disgusting abuse.

If children were abused, and he said nothing, surely his actions were criminal?

The act of omission?
That would be difficult to prove.

Where's Germanshepherdsmum when you need her?

I agree Allira.. we miss her

Archbishop Welby has resigned

missdeke Tue 12-Nov-24 14:51:33

From what I understand he has apologised, the only way he could prove that he actually means it is to resign. If he waits to be removed then he will not be able to dignify his position at all. If I was King Charles as head of the church in England I would remove Welby by the end of this week if he doesn't resign.

Personally I detest the power and riches of the churches, what on earth has that got anything to do with having a Faith.

Absolutely ! Should also be arrested for ‘aiding and abetting ‘ the disgraceful Smith! How many other ‘men of the cloth’ abused their positions? Horrific

Smyth was not a man of the cloth.

Aiding and abetting? 🤔 By failure to act?

orly Tue 12-Nov-24 14:46:21

Sacked would be my preferred option as it just smacks of a cover up for the indefensible

Good.
The only thing to do.

Dempie55 Tue 12-Nov-24 14:34:10

Good riddance. He was never up to the job, has always shown poor judgement and insisted on meddling in politics.

I agree with the poster who asked why couldn't he just be sacked?
Apparently there's a bill coming to abolish the hereditary peers from the House of Lords, seems like an appropriate time to get rid of the clergy too!

I expect it was strongly suggested that he resign. Starmer refused to support him too.

"Having sought the gracious permission of His Majesty The King, I have decided to resign as Archbishop of Canterbury."

Good!

Good riddance, won't bring those poor children back their childhood though. Stopping the monster in his tracks would have saved many. Others were complicit by keeping their mouths shut. Shame on them.

Bazza Tue 12-Nov-24 14:25:51

Well he has just resigned. And not before time.

BigBertha1 Tue 12-Nov-24 14:21:56

Yes!!!

Well, that's happened since the lunch-time news when he wasn't going!

MissInterpreted Tue 12-Nov-24 14:17:34

Yes, he has resigned - story on BBC website:

Yes, he absolutely should! Sanctimonious horrible man!
