I Hope Robber Reeves Will Be Paying Attention To The Weather Forecast

With universal predictions of nosediving temperatures this coming week, I'll bet plenty of apprehensive pensioners will be doing just that.
Shame, shame on you Chancellor!

I’m of the opinion that two wrongs don’t make a right.

Yes!

So I hope those who have continued to ignore that stricture and called Thatcher, Truss, Johnson, Hunt, etc names sill accept your reprimand too.

Name calling isn’t the same as satire. I haven’t seen anyone defending name calling “ as long as it’s not Labour” . All politicians should be able to take a jibe at their policies.

Allsorts Thu 21-Nov-24 06:52:32

It seems it doesn't matter whom you insult or call names as long as it is not Labour. They have made a mess in such a short time.

vegansrock Thu 21-Nov-24 06:45:37

I’m of the opinion that two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s again playground nonsense - well she said x so I said y. Some things are worth commenting on - Nigel Farage dressing up as Toad of Toad Hall made me laugh when I read that description. I guess that observation was humorous - I don’t think politicians are exempt from satire over some of the mad things they say/ wear / do - it’s a tradition that goes back centuries. Just name calling - doesn’t really cut it.

when people stoop to name calling in a political discussion, it suggests they haven’t got a reasonable point to put forward

The irony seems to completely escape some posters, who also appear to have the shortest memories in existence.

👏👏👏

But to be fair, maybe their memories aren’t just short, but . . .

Primrose makes the point succinctly. She reminds those of us with short memories of the name calling on here, on Gransnet, by mature adults, that was dished out about Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Margaret Thatcher, and I could add a few others. The most vile things were said about David Cameron and Osborne with regards to their activities with pigs!! And the posters weren’t talking about farming!

Trump (and I’m not a fan, just to make it clear) came in for some vile comments. When he was about to make an official visit here during the time he was President, posters on here were saying that they would go to London and demonstrate their hatred of him by standing at the roadside as his car passed, and by then turning around and baring their bottoms at him (do a moonie at him.) Now if that’s not childish I seriously don’t know what is. And one of the posters who said that is still on here! I remember that much. Probably others are too.

So whatever the supporters of Rachel Reeves have had to endure, it’s absolutely nothing compared to what has been written on Gransnet in the past, about other politicians who those posters think it okay to be rude about.

Whatever we think, or don’t think, about RR I heartily wish people would stop calling her Robber Reeves.
It is insulting and derogatory.

Quite agree. It’s very petty too and achieves nothing except to make you wonder at some people.

There may be a good reason…….

So, Mollygo, to reverse your argument, if it was unacceptable to you to use inappropriate names about Conservative cabinet members, perhaps ...
I repeat, I believe in respectful discourse- for everyone. We are adults.

I think it is unacceptable in either case.
Did you protest when it was happening in the past?
I don’t recollect.

Please could I add my voice to the people asking for our Chancellor to be called by her name? By all means criticise her policies, but name- calling- not appropriate.
I was no fan of Mr Johnson, nor of Ms Truss, but I didn't feel a need to return to the playground when referring to them.

I am attempting to cancel my X membership, it is disappointing to come on here and find the same name calling and irrational claims about Rachel Reeves.

Mollygo Wed 20-Nov-24 18:58:11

Name calling is certainly more common in the playground, but once again it was OK if used about Conservatives but unacceptable if used for Labour.
Two-faced do you think?

Unlike names given to Boris Johnson - clown, buffoon, idiot. theresa May - maybot, margaret thatcher milk snatcher and Jeremy Hunt, I can’t even write on here. 😉

I find it odd that these "tough decisions" don't include encouraging MPs not to take their "energy" allowance, or to review the £360 per day paid to those who turn up at the House of Lords. I have tried writing to my new Labour MP and Ms Reeves about this and have not received a reply!

It’s not odd at all.

And energy bills under Milliband (net zero) are not popular are they?

I completely fail to follow your train of thought.

Every economic indicator is going the wrong way since Labour got in just 4 months ago. Inflation has jumped 1.7% to 2.5% not surprisingly since she splurged inflation busting rises on the Public Sector whilst their productivity declined. Growth went from 0.5 to 0.1 - expect it to be in negative territory next quarter which means Reeves will have taken us into recession. And unemployment is rising quickly. Bet you won't put that on your CV Rachel? I don't think this country will survive 5 years of this.

Inflation is rising because of energy prices and still high interest rates.

It has nothing to do with pay rises. In fact, the pay rises should be adding a little bit to growth in the economy as the recipients will be able to buy more. Except, of course, if their energy bills or mortgage rates are increasing.

No she's not a robber. She is a horrible individual and she doesn't care how many people she hurts.

She doesn't care if people will die from the cold.
She doesn't care that people may lose their jobs due to employer NI increases.
She doesn't care that shops will continue to increase prices.
She doesn't care about poor NHS services.
She doesn't care that her lies are so easily exposed.

She's warm and toasty in her lair. She will never have to worry about surviving on a pension or keeping warm. She is set for life.

I agree with MaisieD with regard to the de regulation of the banking sector. I think we saw last time that it can't be trusted to behave sensibly.

Yes, I agree. It is childish.

I totally agree too. Smacks of the playground taunts, very childish and immature
