I Hope Robber Reeves Will Be Paying Attention To The Weather Forecast

I'm concerned about this Government. They seem to go ahead preferring to forget about us as humans and go ahead and decide on plans that don't necessarily work for the country as a whole. I'm tired of them already.

Only this week we had a letter telling us to apply for Pension Credit as we were eligible. Except we are not.

It is on record that, 10 years ago, RR said, in the House, " We are the party who have said that we would cut the winter fuel allowance for the richest pensioners."

- presumably a statement meant to impress their 'fiscal responsibility' credentials.

And it rather flies in the face of her recent statement - "Let me be clear: this is not a decision I wanted to make, nor is it the one that I expected to make.”

And makes a bit of a mockery of her insistence it was an unavoidable choice because of the previously unknown 'black-hole' left by the outgoing government.

In my view, not that my view matters more than anyone else's, RR's decisions were not 'tough' at all - except of course for those who are only just above the cut-off point.

The real "tough decisions" would be those taken by a government that recognised the structural inequalities in our economic system, and doing something about it.

Removing a bit here, and taxing a bit there doesn't really cut it. And just makes both the hares and the hounds unhappy.

Some would just describe her as a liar.

I find it odd that these "tough decisions" don't include encouraging MPs not to take their "energy" allowance, or to review the £360 per day paid to those who turn up at the House of Lords. I have tried writing to my new Labour MP and Ms Reeves about this and have not received a reply!

Allegedly former colleagues have said that RR did actually work in the Halifax/HBOS complaints department, in a small 3 person support unit which managed administrative processes, IT matters and small projects and planning.

Who's to say the next government will remind these unpopular new taxes? They won't want to give up this new income will they? What will they replace it with?

They will be in power for at least the next five years?

Every year in the past, when the Winter Money goes out there are so many people moaning that they do not need this, nor want it, but are unable to stop themselves receiving it.

Now, quite suddenly, every pensioner is living on (or under) the bread line. Wonder who it is that are filling up the cruises and holidays and crowding out restaurants, etc.

The very bottom economic pensioners have been protected. Any scheme anywhere, any time, which is means tested in any way, are going to have the problem of those just above that divide. But do wonder how many of these there really are.

Obviously, the pensions in UK should be raised, and bring us in line with other parts of Europe and get rid of these 'extras', including the silly ten pounds xmas money.

Notice that no-one seems to be at all concerned about families with small children getting any extra fuel help.

Worrying about pensioners who are juggling eating and heating does not mean that one cannot be concerned about others who are also struggling financially and in other ways.

My extra 25p a week added to my state pension because of my age could join my £10 Christmas allowance or bonus. Heaven knows how much it costs to administer.

I wrote to my MP and received a reply. It was an A4 reply telling me Pension Credit is available, I am not entitled to it and also I now have the enhanced state pension but I still receive the older, smaller amount.

I do not need the extra money I was writing on behalf of those who maybe could not and needed the WFA.

Completely agree GG13. I’m distressed about it but most definitely not for myself. We gave ours to DD2 who is struggling with mortgage, childcare costs, bills etc etc. The family have never had a holiday.

I thought she said she was an economist at the Bank of England, and I did hear her old boss confirming that but I can't remember his name. The BofE has apparently confirmed she did work there for six years with some of that time on secondment to Washington. She then worked at Halifax which she described as retail banking.

I like Rachel Teeves at least she has knowledge of economics unlike the numerous chancellors from the last government. Plus she hasn’t been fidddling millions in tax unlike zahawi.
