The Farmers Fight

(793 Posts)

Infuriated farmers will be protesting against Labour's 'Tractor Tax' opposite Downing Street tomorrow. They are being asked not to bring farm machinery but I hope they clutter up Whitehall with every tractor and combine harvester they can lay their hands on. Reeves claims 'only' 20% of farms will be affected by her latest smash and grab raid but economists say it is nearer 70%. Has it not figured in her brain that if farmers, who already struggle to make ends meet, chuck in the towel, there will be a serious food shortage?

Casdon go and chat to anyone with links to the farming community for a reality check.

Totally agree Sarnia

It is always good to remember *NO FARMERS, NO FOOD*

It is happening in France and Spain too.

NO FARMERS, NO FOOD ..

It is truly a horror story ..

LizzieDrip - it may be the Call a General Election Now petition 😂😵‍💫. I’ve just seen a very silly post on our village Facebook group asking us to sign

Really Iam. I’m not on Facebook so it’s passed me by. Sounds hilarious🤣🤣🤣

Casdon it seems very evident that I am not alone in disliking this particular government.

No government ever has the support of the whole electorate ronib, and people who oppose whoever is in power have every right to voice their objections. It’s the nonsense I object to, when people say things that patently aren’t true, which is what you did above.

ronib Sun 24-Nov-24 18:42:43

Thankfully the fixed term parliament was repealed in 2022. Still another 4 and a half years of nonsense….

Iam64 Sun 24-Nov-24 18:41:17

Of course yiu aren’t ronib. It’s politics init.

This government is a million miles from communism. MaizieD’s response, questioning whether socialism can be applied is reasonable (even though I’m a supporter if this govt)

LizzieDrip - it may be the Call a General Election Now petition 😂😵‍💫. I’ve just seen a very silly post on our village Facebook group asking us to sign. The man posting has strange ideas about mobile phone posts to name but one. Labour won here this time after years of an invisible Tory. Thankfully the post has so far had some entertaining responses, none in support of this daft idea
As corporal Jones might say, the don’t like it up’em do they

Casdon feels like that’s the direction of travel under Starmer and I don’t think it will end well.

No ronib, it really doesn’t feel like we are headed towards a communist state, in any respect. I think we all understand that you don’t like the Labour government but exaggerating their actions so grossly doesn’t help your case at all.

ronib Sun 24-Nov-24 18:33:26

LizzieDrip it’s easy to let one’s imagination run wild on this forum …. Flights of fancy and all that. To be serious, Labour is giving every impression of following a half socialist, half communist approach but caring and sharing it is not. The lived experience is now unfortunately.

LizzieDrip Sun 24-Nov-24 18:28:09

ronib what petition is that please?

LizzieDrip Sun 24-Nov-24 18:25:03

Allira no-one in this discussion, as far as I can see, is holding up Communism as an example of an ideal state. Rather, we’re making the point that Communism and Socialism are different.

ronib if you have lived experience of a Communist state, then you will know how different it is to Socialism. Otherwise, I suppose you’re just ‘imagining’ they’re the sameconfused

Its just that I haven't seen any evidence David that the last or indeed this government has argued that its good to import food as its "greener" and that they are "greenwashing" in this way.

It probably isn’t “greener” that’s just your interpretation but if it’s not produced in the UK the emissions don’t count towards the UK climate target

A cow in Argentina or Ireland produces the same emissions as a UK cow, more imports less emissions for UK. That’s true of all imports don’t you understand that.

Casdon Sun 24-Nov-24 18:11:51

Because you put a spin on it Allira.

‘communism, political and economic doctrine that aims to replace private property and a profit-based economy with public ownership and communal control of at least the major means of production and the natural resources of a society.’

That is how communist countries operate, the model of leadership is what causes conflict.

I’m not sure what you mean Allira, would you not define North Korea, for example, as a communist country?

🤔

I would not hold that up as an example of an ideal state.

How many millions have been oppressed and died in the name of Communism?

That wasn’t really the question though, it’s an example of the model rather than the application?

Which is what I said in answer to a question.

LizzieDrip

petal & ronib have you looked at the definition of communism???

I commented:
The definition is quite different from the realities which we have seen over the last century.

No idea why that comment was questioned.

Socialists would care about children living in poverty and would have immediately removed the two child cap on benefits.
This Starmer Government does not.
Socialists would not let the water companies get away with such bad practise and would bring water back to being a public service instead of a cash machine for shareholders and executives.

They’re going to provide free breakfasts for primary school children. I’m pretty sure that, when they’ve sorted out the economic mess left by the last government they will remove the two child cap but, at this moment in time the important thing is to get to grips with the economy. Labour neither applied the two child cap or caused the financial disaster that was a result of the Truss premiership so why are they getting the blame for it?
