Oh Mr Starmer … could things be any worse only 4 months in?

Domestically you’re nowhere to be seen. (I know, COP and saving the world jamboree). Your personal ratings have plummeted at -22. Your Chancellor is trying to defend the ‘change’ that Labour told us we needed - VAT on school fees, IHT changes, Net Zero, WFA stopped, inflation up from 1.7 to 2.4% - in your absence. To be honest I feel a bit sorry for RR. Firefighting for all she’s worth while her boss is halfway around the world. Now Starmer is telling us that he used to work on a farm….

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for him. Buyer’s remorse anyone? Or is it jot early to tell 4 months in and he just needs more time?

Allira, as requested, sensible answers to FGT’s questions:

1) No ‘buyers remorse’ from me
2) Yes, 4 months is too early to tell
3) Yes, he needs more time

It was FriedGreenTomatoes2 who asked the question.

I give up

Maremia Thu 21-Nov-24 15:00:30

Allira, four months is not enough time to wipe out more than a decade of misrule.

Thanks for the suggestion Allira, but as they say in my neck of the woods, 'Nae chance'. You need other points of view, if you want a balanced discussion. Perhaps some of the other Posters would prefer an echo chamber? It's not going to happen.

I'm not telling you what to do Maremia, far from it!

It was just that a couple of posters asked how to hide threads by a particular poster. I was telling them how.

Constructive answers would be far more welcome.

Please see my post above, which crossed with yours.

Personally, I just want to attack fgt. grin

That was a joke, by the way.

Maremia Thu 21-Nov-24 14:58:49

Annewilko, nearly there. Someone else disappeared at the same time as GSM.

Actually, all of the above is in fact true.

And FriedGreenTomatoes2 does ask if it is too early to tell 4 months in and does Starmer need more time.

That is a very valid question and sensible answers would be much better than personal attacks on the OP.

Or is it that those attacking FriedGreenTomatoes2 have no answers to that question?

Oh well, more of the same it is, then.

I think a problem here is that FGT starts so many of these negative threads that it is hard to discuss the issues properly. I am no fan of Starmer but these samey threads are bit tiresome now.
I used to think the same when it was all the same posters posting samey, samey things about the Conservative government, but if you allow freedom of speech, it has to be both ways.

I wouldn't want a picture of Margaret Thatcher in my home.
Would you?

I don't live in the official residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 14:49:29

So is anyone going to actually talk about what's worse, or are we back to people in boats wearing coats...
Took down a portrait...
Worked on a farm...
Macdonalds...

Quite GG13.

I am, instinctively, a Tory but felt they had lost their way. Labour seemed to offer such promise and I feel so let down by them.

I could have written that.

Asylum seekers outside the Ibis hotel in Luton in identical puffer coats. Labour has opened more hotels for migrants than it has closed, in defiance of an election promises.

C’mon Yvette Cooper.
You said you had a (3 word) plan “Smash the Gangs”. You ridiculed Rwanda yet put nothing in its place.

After 14 years and decrying everything the Tories suggested things are no better - in fact worse. The rubber boats keep coming because you have no deterrent.

There are many charities which collect and distribute warm jackets and coats. We have one at our Foodbank and outside the library. Why do you have an issue with people keeping warm?

She's a modern day Scrooge. LOL.

SandyMM Thu 21-Nov-24 14:43:47

I lost respect for Starmer when he moved into Downing Street and removed Mrs Thatcher's portrait. How disrespectful!
As the saying goes:
When a clown takes over a palace, he doesn't turn into a king. It just turns the palace into a circus.

Isn't it strange that Labour had a landslide election victory- and yet now, nobody I speak to voted for them!

I did grin

If you go on to the mobile site, bring up whichever thread you dislike, then click on the small arrow on the righthand side, it brings up a list of options.
One is Hide this thread. Click on that and hey presto - it disappears from the list when you log on.

I think it's GSM in disguise 🥸

She is definitely not!

Grantanow Thu 21-Nov-24 14:26:45

I remember a lot of Tory MPs were pretty despairing of Mrs Thatcher's performance in the early days of her first Government but she came through well eventually until her ultimate deposition. Starmer has a long way way to go before the next Election.

but think there should be a graduated cut off, and I will lobby my MP to that effect.

Yes, there should. It has upset a lot of voters and also annoyed the Trades Unions, not a good look for a Labour Party.

But. This government is a long term work in progress and I honestly believe that, although some things may be difficult for some of us, in general they genuinely want to improve things for everyone, unlike the previous incumbents who appeared to be more interested in lining their own pockets.

Unfortunately, they have also been seen to be lining their own pockets which isn't a good look either.

Perhaps they're trying but just end up looking rather inept.
