Oh Mr Starmer … could things be any worse only 4 months in?

Domestically you’re nowhere to be seen. (I know, COP and saving the world jamboree). Your personal ratings have plummeted at -22. Your Chancellor is trying to defend the ‘change’ that Labour told us we needed - VAT on school fees, IHT changes, Net Zero, WFA stopped, inflation up from 1.7 to 2.4% - in your absence. To be honest I feel a bit sorry for RR. Firefighting for all she’s worth while her boss is halfway around the world. Now Starmer is telling us that he used to work on a farm….

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for him. Buyer’s remorse anyone? Or is it jot early to tell 4 months in and he just needs more time?

At dinner with a group of friends over the weekend I asked the table what good things the new government had achieved.

Putting money aside for the post office and blood scandals was the best we could come up with.

They may have put money aside, but they haven’t followed through with their pre-election promises of sorting them out as soon as they were in power,

Labour are just a poor imitation of the Conservative Party at their lowest point.

I expected more, but hey ho!

What does that prove?

I've herd it all now! I'll be laughing til the cows come home. 🐄 🐄 🐄

Apparently it was his first part-time job when he was 17, makes a change from McDonalds 🤣

vegansrock Wed 20-Nov-24 17:14:56

Actually negotiating with doctors etc needed doing.

I think a problem here is that FGT starts so many of these negative threads that it is hard to discuss the issues properly. I am no fan of Starmer but these samey threads are bit tiresome now.

Well they do make a change from the how awful are they Conservatives which have been going on repeatedly since the beginning of GN.

First time I've herd that escaped grin.

Very true GrannyGravy.

kittylester Wed 20-Nov-24 17:25:51

Quite GG13.

I am, instinctively, a Tory but felt they had lost their way. Labour seemed to offer such promise and I feel so let down by them.

When I joined GN about 4 years ago, I couldn't believe all the negative threads about the then Conservative PM. I thought I had joined a Boris bashing site. Threads like - Boris makes my skin crawl etc. And so many others.

I’m all ears. Truly. I take it you’re happy with Labour and how things are so far?

This thread is a prime candidate for our honorary new Thread category:
“boring politically motivated shit stirring".

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 20-Nov-24 17:34:23

Ooh Casdon that’s a bit harsh?

May I ascertain then that you’re happy with Mr Starmer? Is he/the Labour Party what you expected?

Agree. 👏

I really CBA to post.

That is uncalled for Casdon

I really hoped for a better standard of governance from Labour, they had 14 years in opposition to get their act together.

Those of us who are right of centre have had to put up with thread after thread of name calling and insults towards the Conservative government and on a fair few occasions towards those of us who owned up to voting for them.

Why should this Labour government be exempt from criticism?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 20-Nov-24 17:46:34

Are the Labour supporters staying quiet because they are disappointed in Starmer? Labour policy in general? Or because this thread is boring?

How can a discussion be boring? I don’t understand!

Maybe it’s because Labour supporters are so used to criticising that they are struggling to be on the receiving end of criticism.

It is far easier to be in opposition than to govern.

kittylester Wed 20-Nov-24 17:52:30

But, Maizie, you did post.

Calendargirl Wed 20-Nov-24 17:53:09

I’m waiting to hear how Yvette Cooper is getting on with the boats issue.

She had plenty to say when Shadow HS, she’s not so chatty now.

M0nica Wed 20-Nov-24 17:55:47

I am deeply cynical. After 60 years as a voter, nothing has changed with Labour. In government they are full of good intentions but incompetent and in oppositon, the prisoners of the left.

The big difference is that the Conservatives were always nasty but competent. Unfortunately in recent years they have become nasty and incompetent.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 20-Nov-24 17:56:16

Well yes GG13 I understand that. The Tories were pretty awful, wasting Boris’ 80 seat majority. Labour have an even bigger majority so most of the ‘Change’ they plan for us all will become law.

I worry it’s not going as well as hoped. The wheel’s coming off the bus and it’s zigzagging in all directions. Starmer is definitely not very popular right now.

I didn’t vote Labour and I know we’re stuck with them so I did hope their years in Opposition had them primed and raring to go with ideas.

Irregular migrants anybody?

I’m totally underwhelmed so far.

Oh I am definitely underwhelmed

Not only have the wheels come off, they have lost the actual bus.
