Oh Mr Starmer … could things be any worse only 4 months in?

Domestically you’re nowhere to be seen. (I know, COP and saving the world jamboree). Your personal ratings have plummeted at -22. Your Chancellor is trying to defend the ‘change’ that Labour told us we needed - VAT on school fees, IHT changes, Net Zero, WFA stopped, inflation up from 1.7 to 2.4% - in your absence. To be honest I feel a bit sorry for RR. Firefighting for all she’s worth while her boss is halfway around the world. Now Starmer is telling us that he used to work on a farm….

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for him. Buyer’s remorse anyone? Or is it jot early to tell 4 months in and he just needs more time?

I think that’s a bit harsh OP? Just what exactly were you expecting to happen in the first few months?
Let me see what’s already happened …doctor and rail strikes avoided, money for the NHS, dentists and schools. Lots of money for farmers (including the few who will have to pay IHT).
Yes I’m a Labour supporter but that doesn’t mean that I do/will support everything they do. I support the changes to the winter fuel payment, for example (my father is a millionaire- why on earth does he - or me for that matter need it?) but think there should be a graduated cut off, and I will lobby my MP to that effect.
But. This government is a long term work in progress and I honestly believe that, although some things may be difficult for some of us, in general they genuinely want to improve things for everyone, unlike the previous incumbents who appeared to be more interested in lining their own pockets.

What does that prove?

I've herd it all now! I'll be laughing til the cows come home. 🐄 🐄 🐄

He does talk pigswill and has had his nose in the rough quite a bit since getting in.

Definitely never rude.

What escaped said. Everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it is different from your own.

Suzieq62 having a different point of view does not equate to being a muck stirrer

Inconsistant viewpoints from FGT2. She is very quick to chastise, if we lament that Trump has triumphed. 'We must accept the will of the voters in the USA', but here, where the Tories have been trumped by Labour, it seems to be a different story. Labour has a stonking majority, through the 'will of the people'. Accept one, accept all.

Yup, it's the biased commentary that's quite irritating. I would scroll past but I do feel that an alternative POV is needed.

It's called freedom of speech.

You're entitled to voice your political views too, and have on occasion too, I believe.

That's not fair.
* FriedGreenTomatoes* is not a muck stirrer, nor quick to chastise. I've seen her withdraw very quickly from unpleasant arguments while others carry on ranting. She is never rude about others posters either.

It is possible to accept the will of the voters and criticise the Government, they are not mutually exclusive.

I used to think that the best way forward would have been a coalition government as then ideas from all sides BUT Clegg & Cameron spoilt that view. I can never forgive Cameron for the impact he had on closing down libraries . Thatcher sold off all of the services so we have more foreign firms controlling water, fuel and railways. Brown sold off gold at a discount. Is there any political party worth voting in ?

Quite.

Why join in threads that annoy you then moan about the OP too?
Incredibly rude.

I think a problem here is that FGT starts so many of these negative threads that it is hard to discuss the issues properly. I am no fan of Starmer but these samey threads are bit tiresome now.

Indeed. We understand that she is a Reform voter, and she hates Starmer. Is there any way to block people's comments on here?

You just skip past anything you don't want to read and make no comments smile🙈🙉🙊
That's easy enough. So why not?

I’m waiting to hear how Yvette Cooper is getting on with the boats issue.

She had plenty to say when Shadow HS, she’s not so chatty now.

Good point, very quiet on this front. Maybe another thing they've realised is very difficult to sort out.

But Starmer beats the lot. He is the worst of the worst. Ghastly man.

Really? He hasn't managed to kill thousands like Johnson did due to his shambolic 'leadership' yet. He hasn't syphoned off billions of £££ to his mates either. I see the gov so far as relatively benign. But then I am not a farmer with over £3 millions worth of assets and a deep dislike of paying my dues for living in a civilised society. Of a lacky/toady for the above.

I couldn’t agree more .The same smug people that twist facts to suit Tye arguments. Straight from the Daily Mail, headlines usually. Tories left an unforgivable mess . It will take years to clean up the mess they left!

Well why bother answering then. Scroll by. I remember the same re the Conservatives, always negative comments. Goodness me that Labour should suffer the same eh!!

Mollygo Thu 21-Nov-24 11:58:34

The prime minister is entitled to two salaries:
£91,346 for being an MP
£80,807 for being PM -
Plus expenses and subsidised meals.
Rent free accommodation and though he does have to pay council tax, the council tax is less per year than mine.

So why did he need freebies to clothe himself etc.

Allira Thu 21-Nov-24 10:23:28

Well said, madalene

I doubt that MPs would need to touch their salaries as they could easily live on all their expenses.
